In the final phase Sweden defended with cat and mouse. But it didn’t help. Lewandowski equalised in the 84th minute. The last word was reserved for Sweden’s Joker Claesson in the overtime with the 3-2.
The Swedes performed strongly in the group phase. Already on the first day of the match, a big surprise was to be provided with a goalless draw against Spain. The last two attempts were won against Slovakia (1-0) and Poland (3-2). With seven points captured, the “Tre Kronor” secured its place in the sun at the end. The offensive scored four goals and only two goals were conceded to the defence. Two of the three group games should be played to zero. With three goals, Emil Forsberg is the best attacker in his own ranks.

Ukraine had to prove its skills against Austria in the last group game. The „Showto-blakytni“ struggled especially in the first round and focused mainly on the defensive. Chances of scoring were therefore an absolute shortage. Austria made the game and went to the front after 21 minutes earned by Baumgartner. Despite numerous other opportunities for the alpine kickers, the gap remained close to 1:0. Even after the change of sides, the Ukrainians did not invest much in this approach. However, this attitude was only partially understandable. After all, a draw would have been necessary to secure at least the second place in the table. Ultimately, the approach flattered without any real highlights and ended up staying 0-1 from the Ukrainians’ point of view.
Only a meagre victory was achieved by coach Shevchenko’s team after three days of group play. This was to be won in the second match after a narrow 2-1 victory over North Macedonia. Furthermore, two defeats had to be accepted. The bankruptcies were suffered against Holland (2:3) and Austria (0:1). In the end, four points won were only enough for third place in Group C. A supposedly heavier opponent would have waited in the eighth finals with Italy as second in the group. Thus, it was perhaps by no means bad in the end that “only” third place jumped out. The gap to the front-runner from Holland was six points. The offensive scored four goals and the defense received five goals on the other side. With two goals each, Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk are the best attackers in their own ranks.
