The coach after the defeat at Atalanta: “When the game got serious, we made the wrong decisions. But now I have to convince the lads that they didn’t play as badly as the result suggests.”

The result is tough, but Luciano Spalletti remains calm after his Juve side’s 3-0 defeat at Atalanta. “They were better than us at key moments,” he told Sportmediaset. “When you’re talking about a 3-0 defeat, you just have to congratulate Palladino and the opposing players.”

Having given Atalanta their due credit, Spalletti then analyzed his team’s performance: “Juve lacked precision and clarity in decisive situations tonight: when the game got real, we often failed to make the right decisions.” The coach continued: “We have some flaws, but we are a team and we just need to fix these situations and know when the game can change.” However, there was also room for some criticism: “I didn’t like the end of the game, when we were scattered across the field, without order or logic. We were disunited. Then, after the 1-0, we had 4-5 chances and we messed up: we lack a bit of the ability to read certain situations and make the right choices.“

”Penalty? My job is different” —  Sibillino then commented cryptically on the penalty that broke the deadlock, awarded for a handball by Bremer: “It’s a penalty because he touched it with his hand, that’s all,” said Spalletti, half-seriously, half-ironically. He then added, “It’s not my job to comment, my job is different. Now I just have to convince the boys that they didn’t play as badly as the result suggests…”
