Will Slovan Bratislava advance to the next round?

The first leg in the current Champions League qualifiers could not have gone worse for Ferencvaros Budapest. After all, the Magyars squandered home advantage against Slovan Bratislava and conceded a bitter defeat against the Slovakian champions despite leading 1:0 at one stage.

In the second leg, Slovan Bratislava are no longer under pressure to win and therefore have the best chance of reaching the third qualifying round for the Champions League. In the CL qualification, the “Belasi” from Slovakia has lost only two of the last seven home games.

Nevertheless, the best bookmakers see the Slovakian hosts as underdogs. For Slovan Bratislava vs. Ferencvaros, betting odds of 2.95 are currently offered for tip 1. If the Magyars win, on the other hand, odds of 2.35 are offered.

Betting on a win by Ferencvaros TC, however, involves a lot of risk. The Magyars have so far won only one of a total of five competitive matches against Slovakian clubs. It is quite possible that Ferencvaros TC’s negative trend against teams from their Eastern European neighbour will continue.

Slovan Bratislava – Statistics & current form

Slovan Bratislava already have one leg in the third round of Champions League qualification. The “Belasi” celebrated a sensational comeback last week, coming back from a 0:1 deficit to claim a well-deserved 2-1 victory away from home. Both goals were scored by Slovan Bratislava in the closing stages, where Kashia and Barseghyan scored within a few minutes.

At home, there is now even the chance to punch the ticket for the next round with a draw. Considering how strong Slovan Bratislava have been in their own stadium recently, bets on the Slovakian record champions progressing are obvious. Since the 2021/22 season, there has only been one home defeat for the “Belasi”.

That defeat came in the cup final against Spartak Trnava. In the first two home games of the current season, on the other hand, there was a goalless draw against Batumi in the first round of CL qualifying and a 4-0 win against Trencin.

Will Slovan Bratislava beat the Magyars again?

Slovan Bratislava have never lost a competitive match against Ferencvaros TC in the entire history of the club. In three matches there were two wins for the “Belasi”, another match ended in a draw. The last time they hosted Ferencvaros TC at Tehelné pole, Slovan Bratislava even beat the Magyars 4:1.

The Slovaks will therefore approach the return match with a broad chest. Head coach Vladimir Weiss will again have to do without several players due to injury. With Chobot, Zmrhal, Rabiu and Sulla, four players are currently in the hospital of the “Belasi”. Compared to the starting eleven that mastered the first leg against Ferencvaros, minimal to no changes are therefore to be expected.

The most valuable player in the Slovakian ranks is currently Tigran Barseghyan. The winger from Azerbaijan scored in the first leg to give the “Belasi” a 2-1 victory. If the 28-year-old also leads his team to success in the second leg, odds of 2.95 are paid out for tip 1 on Slovan Bratislava vs Ferencvaros.

Ferencvaros – Statistics & current form

Ferencvaros have not been eliminated in the second qualifying round of the Champions League since the 2016/17 season. In the last two years, the Magyars were even represented in the play-offs. In 2020/21, they even made it to the group stage of the top flight – for the first time since 1995, mind you.

Now the club from the Hungarian capital, rich in tradition, is threatened with a super-GAU in the top flight. After the 1-2 defeat in the first leg against Slovan Bratislava, Ferencvaros are on thin ice and are under pressure to win the second leg in Slovakia. Only a win by at least two goals can take Ferencvaros into the next round.

A narrow away win in Bratislava, on the other hand, would mean extra time. Although the Hungarian record champions made a largely positive impression in the first leg, it is risky to predict a victory for the Magyars in the second leg. Ferencvaros have failed to win any of their last five away games on the international stage this season.

Continues the away misery at the Fradi?

Ferencvaros Budapest have lost four of their last five away games, including three defeats in the 2021/22 EL group stage.Betting fans who still want to place a bet on the visitors from Hungary in Slovan Bratislava vs Ferencvaros can pick up betting odds of up to 2.35 if the “Fradi” are successful.

In the last round of the current CL qualification, Ferencvaros remained winless away from home against Tobol. It was only in the second leg at home that the Hungarian record champions prevailed and thus advanced to the next round.

There will be no serious personnel worries against Slovan Bratislava in the second leg on Wednesday evening. Head coach Cherchesov will only have to do without Ryan Mmaee due to injury. In his absence, Boli is expected to remain set up front.

Predicted line-up of Ferencvaros:
Dibusz; Wingo, Mmaee, Kovacevic, Civic; Laidouni, Esiti; Nguen, Zachariassen, Traore; Boli

Slovan Bratislava – Ferencvaros Direct comparison / H2H balance

Slovan Bratislava and Ferencvaros Budapest meet for the fourth time in their club history. The Slovaks have won two out of three competitive matches against the Magyars so far, including the most recent success in Budapest. The last time the two clubs met in the top flight was in September 1992, when the aggregate score was 4-1 in favour of the Slovakian “Belasi” after a first and second leg.

Slovan Bratislava – Ferencvaros tip

Last week, Ferencvaros Budapest did not put in a bad performance for long stretches and were the team that dominated the game against Slovan Bratislava. Nevertheless, the Hungarian record champions could only manage the 1-0 lead against their Slovakian opponents for a few minutes. In the final phase, Slovan scored twice to make it a 2-1 comeback.

The “Belasi” thus set the course for the next round and is no longer under pressure to win in the return match at Tehelné pole. Even a draw in Wednesday’s match against Ferencvaros TC is enough to punch the ticket for the third round of Champions League qualifying.

Because the guests from Hungary will risk a lot at the latest in the course of the match to overcome the difficult hurdle in Bratislava, we think it is obvious to bet on a victory for Slovan Bratislava. In the first leg, Slovan Bratislava’s defensive bulwark held out until the 70th minute, after which they scored the first goal of the match.

Our betting odds on Slovan Bratislava vs. Ferencvaros are for a home win. We are betting five out of ten possible units for this.
