Ends Atletico’s dry spell against Sevilla?
Sevilla get a visit from Atletico Madrid. What looks like a top match in La Liga on paper, however, is rather average from a table point of view. The visitors are only in seventh place and the home side are only in 15th place.
The Andalusians only recorded one win on the penultimate matchday against Espanyol Barcelona. However, the visitors also arrive in a hangover mood: Most recently, they suffered a defeat in the “Derby madrileño” against the champions and arch-enemies Real on their own turf.
For the match at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium between Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, the forecast includes an away victory (DNB).
Sevilla – Statistics & current form
The “Hispalenses” were still in fourth place last season, but now the situation in Andalusia is much bleaker. From a personnel point of view, however, coach Julen Lopetegui will be able to draw on a full complement of players against Madrid.
With the Argentine Erik Lamela, a powerful midfielder returns to the squad after overcoming his card suspension.
On the other hand, the Brazilian Galatasaray newcomer Marcao in defence and Jesus Corona in midfield are still missing players due to injuries.
Furthermore, in league play, after the aforementioned first win of the season against Espanyol, the team only managed a 1-1 draw at Villarreal and the point was rather flattering on top for the six-time winners of the UEFA Cup and the Europa League.
Sevilla still waiting for a home win
The “Nervionenses” cannot rely on a home bonus, moreover: So far, only a 1-1 draw against Valladolid and a defeat against Barcelona have been recorded on home soil. That it will be a difficult season for Sevilla, however, was already foreseeable before the kick-off.
With the departures of Jules Koundé and Diego Carlos, the central defence was weakened twice over. This personnel bloodletting has already left its negative mark in the Champions League.
In the top flight, the “Rojiblancos” suffered a clear 4-0 home defeat against Manchester City at the start of the competition, followed by only a meagre goalless draw in Copenhagen.

Atletico Madrid – Statistics & current form
The “Colchoneros” were recently defeated, as mentioned, by Real Madrid in the prestigious derby.
However, coach Diego Simeone’s team will probably have put the defeat behind them, as the reigning champions are currently playing very consistently and, with only victories after six rounds of matches, are sitting comfortably at the top of the table in the Iberian top flight.
Furthermore, the defeat was undeserved from a playing point of view, as the third-placed team of the last season was at least equal against Ancelotti’s team.
Before the defeat to Real Madrid, they had also lost the match against Leverkusen in the Champions League, but in the league they had three wins and a draw before the derby defeat.
Madrid are still unbeaten away from home
The eleven-time Spanish champions also rely on their away strength at national level: So far, two wins at Getafe and Valencia, both to nil, and a draw (1-1) at Real Sociedad have been recorded.
On the offensive, Alvaro Morata is also scoring goals: the striker, who has returned from Juve, has three goals, the best tally for the ten-time national cup winners.
During the international break, the Spaniard also scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win in Portugal, earning his country a place in the Nations League Final Four!
His strike partner Antoine Griezmann, on the other hand, still has room for improvement: the Frenchman has not scored in three La Liga and top flight appearances.
His lack of goals was also noticeable during the international break, when he failed to score in his two appearances for the “Equipe Tricolore”. Also out of form is Joao Felix, who has not scored since April this year and a brace against Alaves.
Will Morata strike again?
With this in mind, betting on another goal from the clearly in-form Morata in the clash between Sevilla and Atletico Madrid is a good idea.
The odds on both sides scoring are also interesting. Already last season, Madrid’s previous core competence of a strong defence was no longer much in evidence. Atletico had the worst defence of the eight top teams last season.
The defensive problems have continued so far: no clean sheet has been recorded for five games in La Liga and the Champions League. The reasons for this are also personnel-related, with key defensive players such as Savic and Gimenez having to miss out due to injuries.
Predicted line-up of Atletico Madrid:
Oblak – Witsel – Mandava – Felipe – Llorente – de Paul – Ferreira Carrasco – Kondogbia – Koke – Griezmann – Joao Felix

Sevilla – Atletico Madrid Direct comparison / H2H record
The “Blanquirrojos” recorded a 1-1 away draw in Madrid in their most recent encounter. Thanks to the draw, they have remained unbeaten in three comparisons in this pairing. Sevilla have also not lost any of their past four home games against Atletico (2-2-0).
Sevilla – Atletico Madrid Tip
In the match between Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, the tip aims at a success for the visitors, including securing a draw.
The home side have been weak so far and it is noticeable that the sell-out of the central defence has taken its toll on the statics of the back line.
In addition, Lucas Ocampos, a key creative midfielder, was sold to Ajax Amsterdam after the third round of matches.
Although the visitors’ season has also been bumpy, with two recent defeats in the league and in the top flight, the form of the “Indios” can still be described as stronger.
Moreover, the squad is better stocked and the three-time Europa League winners are strong away from home: they have yet to lose any of their three matches away from home and have instead won the majority (2-1-0).
