Next power show against LFC?
The round of 16 first leg could not have gone any better for Real Madrid against Liverpool. The Royals fought back from an early 2-0 first-half deficit to win the encounter 5-2 at Anfield Road. For LFC, it was one of the highest home defeats in the club’s history on the international stage.
The Reds host Madrid in the second leg this week and are expected to be the underdogs. For Real Madrid vs. Liverpool, betting odds of up to 2.77 are currently being offered for tip 2.
If you take a look at the most recent H2h between Real Madrid vs. Liverpool, a prediction on another victory for the royals has real value. After all, the record holders from Madrid have won six of the last seven encounters against Liverpool.
Real are unbeaten at home against LFC since February 2009. The Madrilenians have won three home games in a row against the Reds since then – most recently even winning two in a row by a score of 3-1. A similar result cannot be ruled out in the upcoming match.
Real Madrid – Statistics & current form
Real Madrid are aiming for their next Champions League title. The Blancos already ensured a clear balance of power in the group stage and won the group. Against teams like Donetsk, Celtic and RB Leipzig, Real scored a total of 15 goals in these six group matches, giving them a record of 4-1-1.
This means an average of more than two goals per group match in the Champions League. Against Liverpool FC, they followed up on that goal tally. Just under a fortnight ago, the Blancos delivered a scoring feast, winning 5:2 at the English club. Real can now qualify for the quarter-finals on their own merits even with a narrow home defeat.
The record when Real won the first leg away from home in the knockout phase is also encouraging. In 26 out of 27 cases, the second leg in front of a home crowd also resulted in a place in the next round. Only against Ajax was there a bitter defeat in the second leg after an away win in the first leg, which saw Real bow out of the last 16 of the 2018/19 Champions League.
300th match in the Champions League
The second leg against Liverpool FC will be Real Madrid’s 300th match in the top flight. Bettors who are also leaning towards a win for the Blancos in the second leg can pick up betting odds of up to 2.30 for a Real Madrid vs. Liverpool bet on the royals.
Against clubs from England, Real Madrid have a record of 21-13-16 on the international stage. Six of those 21 wins have come against LFC, but the Blancos have also drawn and lost three times to the Reds.
Real Madrid have lost only one competitive match at the Bernabeu since March 2022. The Royals will therefore go into the second leg against LFC with a broad chest and should not find it too difficult this time either. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti will also be spared any major personnel worries.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form
Liverpool remain a wonder package this season. The Reds are still difficult to assess in this calendar year and especially unpredictable in the Premier League. After a 7:0 victory against Manchester United, they suffered a bitter defeat at AFC Bournemouth last week, who were bottom of the league at the time.
The result against the Cherries was bitter in any case, because it increased the gap to a starting place for the Champions League in the coming season. Until the next league game in April, LFC do not have another league game to play. This week, therefore, the focus is on the round of 16 second leg in the top flight.
The Reds will need a minor football miracle to make up for the 5-2 defeat at Anfield Road. With Liverpool needing to win by at least a three-goal margin to even force extra-time, it stands to reason that LFC will be risking quite a bit in their attacking play in the upcoming encounter in Madrid.
Enough offensive power to challenge the Madrilenians?
So far, only four English clubs have been able to prevail at Real Madrid’s stadium. Along with LFC, Arsenal, City and Chelsea are among the English clubs that have not failed at the difficult hurdle in Madrid. Nevertheless, after the recent result against AFC Bournemouth, it is risky to make a prediction on the Reds in Real Madrid vs Liverpool.
The only encouraging thing about Liverpool’s quarter-final chances is that they are one of the few teams to have turned around a defeat by three goals or more in the second leg of a Champions League knockout tie. That miracle happened in the semi-finals of the 2018/19 CL – against FC Barcelona, mind you.
LFC coach Jürgen Klopp is still without Diaz, Gomez, Ramsay and Thiago for the second leg against Real Madrid. Keita, on the other hand, is still a big question mark. Compared to last week’s starting eleven against Bournemouth, the Reds are expected to make minimal to no changes.

Real Madrid – Liverpool Direct comparison / H2H record
This is the eleventh time that Real Madrid and Liverpool FC have met in the Champions League. The Blancos from Madrid currently lead the direct comparison against LFC with a record of 6-1-3. Liverpool’s six defeats against Real Madrid have come in their last seven competitive duels. Only in April 2021 did LFC remain unbeaten against the Madrilenians (0-0).
Away from home, the Reds have even lost their last three matches at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu. The Royals prevailed 3-1 in each of their last two home matches against LFC.
Real Madrid – Liverpool Tip
After an impressive comeback in the first leg, Real Madrid’s quarter-final ticket in the top flight is already up for grabs. Even with a defeat against LFC, the Blancos can still qualify for the next round on their own. Provided that the match against Liverpool is lost with less than three goals conceded.
Considering how strong the Madrilenians have been in their own stadium recently, that scenario tends to be ruled out. Since March 2022, Real have lost only one home game in the competition. That defeat came a few weeks ago against FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey 2023.
We therefore also rule out a defeat in the upcoming home game of the Madrilenians and even tend towards another victory for the Blancos. After all, Liverpool will have to risk a lot to even set the course for a comeback. If Real exploit the free spaces, LFC will be threatened with the next defensive debacle even before the second half.
Our betting odds for Real Madrid vs. Liverpool are 1.83 on Real to score in the first half. After the offensive spectacle in the first leg, we choose a confident bet of six units for this match.
