RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart will open the 2nd matchday of the Bundesliga in the Red Bull Arena on Friday evening, 20.08.2021 at 20:30. The Saxons made a bad start last weekend and embarrassed themselves against a greatly weakened replacement team from Mainz 05. The Swabians popped Greuther Leads away from their own fans and immediately catapulted to number one in the table.

It remained at the deserved 1:0 for Mainz 05.
The marching team has lost three of their last four league games across the seasons and has only scored one point in this period. The last five home games of the previous season were varied and unsatisfactory with only one win, three draws and one defeat.
Benjamin Henrichs and Marcelo Saracchi fail due to injury. Alexander Sörloth had to pass in Mainz at short notice. The use of the central striker is also at risk against the VfB.

With the five booths at the start of the season, the Swabians, together with the BVB, are the most dangerous team after the first day of play. Across the seasons, the last guest appearances of the VfB were not quite as good. Although Mönchengladbach won 2-1 on the 33rd day of the match, there were three defeats from four games (1 point) before that.
Lilian Egloff, Silas Katompa Mvumpa, Chris Führich, Momo Cisse, Naouirou Ahamada, Naouirou Sankoh and Orel Mangala are injured in Leipzig.
