Will Frankfurt manage the cup revenge in Leipzig?

A week and a half ago, Marco Rose and RB Leipzig were able to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, temporarily saving his job. However, after the sixth defeat in the sixth Champions League match during the week, the rumor mill is buzzing with regard to a potential successor on the RB coaching bench, should the responsible parties release the coach after a thorough analysis during the winter break. Depending on which RB Leipzig vs. Frankfurt tip goes through on Sunday, this could well influence the decision-making process of those responsible.

The fact is that the Hessians have a desire for revenge after their sobering elimination in the cup competition and are desperate to get even. If, just two weeks ago, SGE would have been considered to have a good chance of even taking all three points from the Red Bull Arena, the current negative trend of Toppmöller’s team must be taken into account when forecasting Sunday’s game between RB Leipzig and Frankfurt. Eintracht have not won in three competitive games in a row. On Thursday evening, they lost 3-2 in Lyon in the Europa League.

Because both teams are struggling with form and are currently far from their absolute top form, it is difficult to correctly assess the odds in the three-way market before the Leipzig-Frankfurt clash. It may therefore be advisable to consider betting on the X, especially since half of all 16 meetings in the German top flight ended in a draw.

RB Leipzig vs. Frankfurt AI prediction

The RB Leipzig vs. Frankfurt AI prediction is easy to explain. BETSiE sees a 55% probability of victory for the home team, which should correspond to a fair odds of 1.80.

RB Leipzig – statistics & current form

Marco Rose is known in Bundesliga circles as a very calm, objective and level-headed coach. However, it is questionable whether the former BVB and Gladbach coach will be able to maintain his composure in view of the numerous media reports about him. Roger Schmidt has already been written about as a shadow coach on several occasions. Recently, even the name Xavi was bandied about as a possible successor to Rose. And this despite the fact that the 48-year-old Leipzig native continues to stand on the sidelines at RB and obviously maintains a top relationship with his team.

The Leipzig core squad seems tired and drained

But it is also clear that the bulls are lagging behind their own expectations. After a strong start to the season, the Saxons have slipped to fourth place in the league and can only see the leaders from Munich in the German championship race with binoculars. However, the already certain elimination from the Champions League weighs even more heavily. Zero points from six games is a catastrophic return for a club that actually sees itself in the top 16 in Europe.

Because six of the last nine competitive games have also been lost, I am not in favor of predicting a home win between RB Leipzig and Frankfurt when looking at the overall situation. This is also supported by the fact that the team from the center of the city have not won at home in the Bundesliga twice in a row and have conceded a whopping 17 (!) Goals in the six defeats mentioned since the beginning of November. The ongoing personnel issues, with almost double-digit number of casualties, further complicates the task, especially since Rose has hardly been able to rotate recently and has had to field the same players in almost every game.

However, the fact that the odds for an away triumph also involve a certain amount of risk ahead of Sunday’s game between RB Leipzig and Frankfurt is proven by the eight clean sheets in the previous 13 Bundesliga matchdays and only one defeat in the first six Bundesliga home games. It would therefore be wiser to take a closer look at an alternative betting market. For example, the odds on more goals in the second half between RB Leipzig and Frankfurt are interesting. RBL has only scored seven of the last 11 goals after the break.

Frankfurt – statistics & current form

For the first time this season, Frankfurt Eintracht is experiencing a somewhat weaker phase. While there is still no reason for concern, the eagle bearers have shown a different face in the last three competitive games than in the course of their previous six-match winning streak. During the 3-0 loss in the cup, sports director Krösche lamented a “system failure by everyone.” At home against FC Augsburg, the team managed a 2-2 draw, and on Thursday in Lyon, the team from Hesse missed out on an early spot in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

Will the well-rested Marmoush end the SGE’s mini-slump?

Nevertheless, something positive could be wrung from the bankruptcy in France. For the seventh time in the review of the past ten games, the black-and-red-whites scored at least twice, even though top scorer Omar Marmoush spent 60 minutes on the bench in Lyon. Because Toppmöller is currently able to better manage the load thanks to a good squad depth and fewer injuries, I don’t necessarily see the kickers from the Main metropolis as outsiders on Sunday and definitely believe they can win a point.

The good away record that the second-placed team and Bayern’s closest pursuer has this season also speaks in favor of this. They have already won four Bundesliga away games. That’s already as many as in the 2023/24 season. Third place is in the away table. A whopping 25 goals have been scored in seven games with SGE involvement away from home. In five of the seven cases, both teams scored, so for those who are less willing to take risks, the betting odds of 1.48 on the Bet-at-Home app for “both teams to score” between RB Leipzig and Frankfurt on Sunday seem profitable.

RB Leipzig – Frankfurt Direct comparison / H2H record

The cup game eleven days ago logically somewhat overshadows the historical head-to-head between these teams. In the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, Leipzig showed no weakness at all, put in their strongest performance in a long time and gave SGE no chance at all. A brace from Openda, a goal from Sesko and three assists from Antonio Nusa ensured the 3-0 win. In nine competitive home games against Eintracht Frankfurt, RBL has a 5-3-1 record. Nevertheless, it is certainly interesting to know that eight out of 16 Bundesliga duels between these clubs ended without a winner…

RB Leipzig – Frankfurt Tip

Eintracht Frankfurt is insisting on revenge. After the cup game in the Red Bull Arena was lost from the SGE’s point of view, something countable should necessarily come out of the Bundesliga. However, in the event of another home victory for RBL, the Saxons would draw level on points with the runners-up from the city on the Main. In the run-up to this encounter, anything seems possible, because the form curves do not reveal a clear favorite. The Rose team has lost six of their last nine competitive games, while the eagles have not won in three competitive games. The ninth draw in 17 Bundesliga duels between these teams therefore seems by no means impossible.

My main RB Leipzig vs. Frankfurt betting tip, however, is that there will be more goals in the second half than in the first. Statistically, this approach can be proven, among other things, by the fact that Toppmöller’s team only conceded around a third of all goals (five out of 13) before half-time and that both teams scored more after half-time. A neutralizing wait in the first 45 minutes is expected, before then in the second round, the larger power reserves could become an issue.
