Are Valladolid’s highs over?
From a dream start to a crisis – the tide can turn so quickly for head coach Paulo Pezzolano at Real Valladolid. The Uruguayan took the reins at the White Violets in the first week of April, and in his first three league games as the new head coach of the “Pucelanos”, he picked up two wins and a draw. In the last two league games, however, he failed to score a point.
A bitter defeat in Valencia was followed by a home debacle against Atletico Madrid. In the English week, La Liga now faces the difficult hurdle at Rayo Vallecano. Bettors who are leaning towards a point win for the white-and-violets this time around can pick up decent betting odds on something countable for the visitors for a Rayo Vallecano vs. Valladolid tip.
Rayo Vallecano are currently bobbing around in no-man’s land in the standings as they wind down the 2022/23 season. Nonetheless, the red and whites should not be labeled as a points supplier because of that, especially since Rayo celebrated a surprise coup against FC Barcelona just less than a week ago. It was the seventh win in the 16th home match of the current season.
It still remains to be seen, however, whether head coach Iraola’s side will extend their record against the visitors from Valladolid. Our Rayo Vallecano vs Valladolid prediction is not aimed at that, as last weekend Rayo already lost at last-place Elche, conceding a 0:4.
Rayo Vallecano – statistics & current form
Last week still with the surprise coup against FC Barcelona followed last weekend a bitter defeat against the bottom of the table FC Elche. Rayo conceded a 4-0 defeat to the weakest team in the standings after a 2-1 loss to FCB, squandering any momentum again.
The Red and Whites now face a match against Valladolid this week. Iraola’s team will be looking to make amends and win their third home match in a row. In the two previous games, Rayo beat FC Barcelona (2-1) and CA Osasuna (2-1) at home.
With a record of 7-5-4, Rayo ranks ninth in the home table. Against one of the weakest away teams in the league, the club from the Madrid suburbs will go into Thursday’s match as favorites, as expected. Bets on a Rayo win have already paid off in the first duel of the season in Valladolid.
Has Rayo already digested the defeat against Elche?
It still remains to be seen how Vallecano will present themselves this time in La Liga after the poor performance against FC Elche. Especially since with Florian Lejeune one of the pillars in the defense is also missing. The central defender saw a sending off last weekend and is therefore unavailable for the English week.
This season, Rayo has conceded at least one goal in every league match in which Lejeune has not played. It is quite possible that this negative trend will continue against Real Valladolid. To place bets on at least one goal conceded by the red and white team, you can also use Betano, the bookmaker tested by Wettbasis.
Head coach Iraola must continue to do without Falcao this week, in addition to Lejeune. However, the 40-year-old is spared from further personnel worries.

Valladolid – Statistics & current form
Real Valladolid is on thin ice at the moment. The white-violets slipped to 16th place in the table after two consecutive defeats. With the 2:5 against Atletico Madrid last weekend, the points cushion on the red zone also shrank. Only four points now separate Valladolid from Barcelona, who are 18th in the table.
It is therefore all the more important for the “Pucelanos” to score in the upcoming league match against Rayo. The last time Valladolid played Rayo Vallecano in a first league match was almost four years ago, when the white and purple team won 2-1. If there are three points this time as well, odds of 4.75 are paid out for a Rayo Vallecano vs Valladolid tip on the guests.
For the 16th in the table, it would be the fourth away win this season. After 16 games away from home, Valladolid’s record is a meager 3-2-11, with 34 goals conceded in that period. So on average more than two goals conceded per match.
Does Valladolid keep Rayo’s offense in check?
Since the coaching change, the offensive play of the “Pucelanos” has improved significantly, but the defense still remains a construction site. Under Pezzolano, Valladolid has only kept its clean sheet against Girona FC. They have conceded a total of eleven goals against teams like Mallorca, Villarreal, Valencia and Atletico Madrid.
Against Rayo Vallecano, therefore, it cannot be ruled out that at least one goal will be conceded. Head coach Pezzolano will have to do without Anuar and Amallah due to injury in the league match against the tenth-placed team. Further personnel worries are not to be complained on the part of the white-violets at present.
Internally, the goal scorer list at relegation-threatened Valladolid is currently headed by Cyle Larin. The Canadian has already scored seven goals this season, making him the White Violets’ most prolific scorer.

Rayo Vallecano – Valladolid Direct comparison / H2H balance
Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid meet for the 65th time overall. The White Violets from Valladolid currently lead the head-to-head comparison against Rayo with a record of 27-16-21. A total of 157 goals have been scored in the 64 encounters – an average of 2.45 goals per match. Bets on fewer than three goals in a match paid off in the very first seasonal duel between the two clubs.
Rayo won 1:0 away from home. For the first time since the 2000/01 season, the red and whites are now aiming for a league double – first and second leg wins – against Valladolid. However, the last time Valladolid hosted Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, the white-and-violets prevailed 2-1.
Rayo Vallecano – Valladolid tip
Rayo Vallecano can let the season come to an end. There is no danger of relegation for the red and white team a few matchdays before the end of the season, which is why the latest result against FC Elche will be bearable. On the other hand, upcoming opponents Real Valladolid will be in for a competitive final spurt of the season.
The white and purple team is still four points away from the relegation zone. It is therefore all the more important for Real Valladolid to score against Rayo Vallecano. Under Pezzolano, the 16th-placed team in the table has not made a bad impression so far and has been particularly convincing in its offensive play. If the “Pucelanos” take the momentum with them into the upcoming match, Valladolid can be expected to score at least one goal.
We expect a high-scoring encounter in the league clash between Rayo and Valladolid, in which it is only a matter of time before the first goal rings in the box of one of the two teams. With the host team missing a key player in central defense, we think it’s far from unreasonable to expect the visitors to score before the end of the second half.
Without Lejeune, who is sometimes the most important man in central defense, Rayo has never kept the clean sheet anyway. Our Rayo Vallecano vs Valladolid betting odds are 2.70 on Valladolid to score in the first half. For this we use five units
