Arsenal and Manchester City want a third win!
The third round of fixtures in the premier league of British football is upon us! The main focus is on Old Trafford.
In Manchester, United now want to make their completely unsuccessful start to the season more successful: However, the task of winning the first points of the season will not be easy, as the runners-up from Liverpool are guests of the “Red Devils”, although the kickers from the Mersey have also made a rather weak start with two draws.
At the top of the table, Manchester City and Arsenal are also striving to remain the only teams in the British top flight with a snow-white waistcoat. The Citizens take on Newcastle and the “Gunners” play at promoted Bournemouth.
Tottenham v Wolverhampton – 20 August, 13:30
Spurs last picked up a draw at Chelsea, missing out on their 100th win in a London City clash in the Premier League. However, the Lilywhites could be satisfied with the result in the end.
It was not until injury time that top striker Harry Kane recorded the equaliser and from a match point of view the Blues were even slightly better. However, after a clear home win at the start, the home side now have four points to their name and they can certainly live with that haul.
The visitors, for their part, are still waiting for their first three points and one reason for this is their comparatively harmless offensive, as was the case last year. They have only scored one goal and important players in this part of the team, such as Raul Jimenez, are currently absent.
At least the defence of coach Bruno Lage’s team has been more secure lately, as they did not concede a goal at home against Fulham.
For the match in London in the Premier League on Matchday 2, the odds on a home win with at least a two-goal difference can nevertheless be placed at Value.
Crystal Palace vs. Aston Villa – 20 August, 16:00
The Eagles picked up a respectable draw at Anfield Road last Monday and have now at least picked up a point after an opening defeat to Arsenal.
Wilfried Zaha scored the goal in the 1-1 draw, once again proving his status as the home side’s top scorer. He has scored in double figures for the Londoners in three of the last four seasons.
The Ivory Coast player also performed strongly in preparation, scoring no fewer than five goals in his final three appearances in test matches.
The Villans also started the new season with a defeat, but celebrated their first win last weekend.
The Birmingham side edged out Everton 2-1 to give coach Steven Gerrard, a former Reds icon, a particularly sweet victory over Liverpool’s nemesis.
Villa have been reluctant to travel to Selhurst Park of late, however: Only one of the last four guest games was won and the remaining three lost.
In the clash of two similarly match-fit teams in the Premier League as part of Matchday 3, tips on a draw appear to be profitable.
Everton v Nottingham – 20 August, 16:00
The Toffees had hoped for a successful new start after last season’s disastrous campaign, which almost involved going down to the Championship. So far, however, this has not materialised.
Instead, coach Frank Lampard’s team has suffered two defeats and scored the first goal. The departure of Richarlison and the current absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin cannot be compensated for.
For their part, the Tricky Trees recorded their first win on the last matchday. Taiwo Awoniyi scored the decisive goal.
The Nigerian was also brought over from Union Berlin in the Bundesliga during the summer break to net in the opponent’s box.
The 25-year-old scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga last season, and it seems he can continue to do so in the British top flight for Steve Cooper’s side.
For the clash at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Matchday 3, bets on a maximum of one goal by the home side are on offer.
In addition to the home side’s poor finishing so far, the visitors’ defence has been largely solid, conceding only two goals to open the season.
Fulham v Brentford – 20 August, 16:00
The Cottagers picked up a respectable draw against runners-up Liverpool to open the season and remained unbeaten on the last matchday.
They drew again against Wolves and if Aleksandar Mitrovic had converted his penalty as he did against the Reds on matchday one, they could have won.
The Serbian still scored both goals for coach Marco Silva’s squad on the first matchday, but failed from the spot this time.
The visitors, on the other hand, had no trouble scoring goals recently: Manchester United were dismantled 4-0 by coach Thomas Frank’s team.
After an opening draw against Leicester, the Londoners are still unbeaten and can be quite satisfied with their start. Ivan Toney, last season’s top scorer, is in good form again.
He set up two of his team-mates’ goals in the most recent emphatic victory over Manchester United, and the 26-year-old scored himself on the first day of the game. In his last 13 appearances in the PL, Toney has been involved in a dozen goals (seven goals & five assists).
Furthermore, John Dasilva is currently impressing on the visitors’ side with goals in both of their opening games! With another goal, he would equal Ollie Watkins, who last scored for the Londoners in the first three rounds of a season at Brentford (2018/19).
Leicester v Southampton – 20 August, 16:00
The “Foxes” and Saints have only picked up one point each to date. Both teams have also been convincing offensively, but their defensive performances have been all the weaker.
Leicester and Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have both conceded six goals.
Given the combination of a reliable attacking line-up and a shaky defence, there will be plenty of goals to come.
Predictions of more than two goals are therefore advisable for the match at last season’s eighth-placed Leicester in the Premier League within Matchday 3. A limit that has always been exceeded in the four matches between the two opponents so far.
Bournemouth v Arsenal – 20 August, 16:00
The Cherries last conceded a 4-0 defeat at Manchester City. However, the promoted side will have quickly put that defeat behind them – a loss at the champions was surely priced into the newcomer’s season planning long ago.
Now the runners-up in the last edition of the Championship face another strong opponent. Arsenal have won their previous games against Crystal Palace and Leicester and are looking for their third win of the season against coach Scott Parker’s eleven in a row.
The Gunners brought in a top Manchester City striker in Gabriel Jesus during the summer break and after coming up empty in the derby against Crystal Palace on matchday one, the new attacker showed his class last Saturday.
The Brazilian contributed two goals and two assists in a 4-2 win against the Foxes from Leicester for coach Mikel Arteta’s team.
After an already successful preparation with seven goals in five appearances, the newcomer has now arrived at last year’s fifth-placed team.
For the clash at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Matchday 3, betting tips on another goal by Gabriel Jesus are therefore worth a recommendation.
Leeds v Chelsea – 21 August, 15:00
United let a 2-0 lead slip away at Southampton last weekend. In the end, a 2-2 draw was recorded on the south coast at the Saints.
Coach Jesse Marsch’s side thus failed to secure a second win after their opening success against Wanderers.
The much-changed team, in which with Raphinha (Barcelona) and Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City) also two powerful players have left, obviously needs more time to find its way better in its new form.
The Blues, like their opponents, also drew 2-2 with Tottenham, but Harry Kane, the second highest scorer in the history of London derbies, equalised in injury time.
After the final whistle at Stamford Bridge, things got hectic again when the two managers Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte clashed.
The two men were both sent off, which is why the ex-PSG coach will not be on the bench against the Peacocks.
For the clash in Leeds in the Premier League on Matchday 3, however, predictions of an away win are worth considering. So far, Chelsea have been more convincing than their opponents, who, as described, are still in a phase of finding their feet.
West Ham vs. Brighton – 21 August, 15:00
The Hammers are not waiting for their first point after two rounds of matches, but equally still for their first goal. After defeats against Manchester City and most recently the promoted side from Nottingham, West Ham have made a false start to the new season.
The Seagulls, on the other hand, are still unbeaten. Coach Graham Potter’s team first managed a three-goal win at Old Trafford and then drew against Newcastle last weekend.
The footballers from the south coast have also never lost to their upcoming opponents in the Premier League (4-6-0).
For the clash at London’s Olympic Stadium in the Premier League on Matchday 3, bets on a draw could therefore be worthwhile.
The home side in particular will probably be able to live with this outcome, as at least the first point of the season would have been secured.
Newcastle vs. Manchester City – 21 August, 17:30
The Magpies scored a win against promoted Nottingham on matchday one. They also followed that up with a goalless draw at Brighton recently.
In both games, the newly formed defence of the team from St. James’ Park, which recently also included Dutch international Sven Botman, remained without conceding a goal!
The visitors, however, have also picked up a clean sheet twice so far and have also been convincing on the offensive. Coach Pep Guardiola’s team has already scored six goals.
Besides Arsenal, the champions are the only team in the British top flight to have won both of their opening games.
New signing Erling Haaland has also made a good start: The ex-Borussian scored twice in the opening win against West Ham and set up at least one goal in the recent 4-0 win against Bournemouth for the team around newly elected captain Ilkay Gündogan.
For the clash in Newcastle in the Premier League on Matchday 3, however, tips on two goals by the visitors seem promising.
Coach Eddie Howe’s home team has been convincing defensively as described, which is why the goal machine from Manchester should work less well oiled this time. A continuation of the series of at least four goals in the last three matches does not seem to be in the cards at the moment.
Manchester United vs. Liverpool – 22 August, 21:00
The Red Devils are not getting off the mark. After the already disappointing defeat against Brighton on their own ground, they suffered the next setback last weekend.
The record champions went down 4-0 at Brentford. After the game, it became clear that the chemistry in coach Erik ten Hag’s team was not right.
Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, left the pitch without saying goodbye to the fans. For the new coach, too, the air is now very thin at the start of the season for last season’s sixth-placed team.
How rare such a bad start is for United and how historic another defeat would be is shown by a look back: Only three times in their history have the home side suffered three defeats at the start of a season (1930/31, 1972/73 & 1986/87).
Erik ten Hag would also be making history – only John Chapman managed three defeats at the start of a season 101 years ago.
But MUFC will now also have an important visitor: the Reds will arrive as runners-up. However, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team has not had a convincing start to the season either.
A draw against Fulham was followed by another draw against Crystal Palace in the first home game of the new season.
On top, new striker Darwin Nunez had to leave the pitch with a red card after a headbutt against a player of the opponents and will now not start.
For the clash in Manchester in the Premier League on Matchday 3, the tip includes a goal by Mo Salah for the visitors.
Without the injured Jota, the suspended Nunez and the exiled Mane, the Egyptian will be particularly important in attack and there should be no shortage of scoring chances in view of the hosts’ very weak defensive performances so far.
Moreover, the upcoming opponent suits him: In his last four appearances against the Red Devils, Salah has scored no less than eight goals in the competition. He has also scored six goals away from home and even scored a hat-trick in his last outing last season!
Should he score again, the striker would also become the first Liverpool player to reach double figures against the Red Devils!
