Champions aim for 13th success in a row at the ‘Saints’
The Premier League is about to enter its 23rd matchday! Tips and odds are presented in the following article on all the duels. For some teams there is a double load of games this week, as various catch-up games have gone over the top due to the recent numerous match cancellations.
One highlight of the matchday next weekend is the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham. The Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways after their defeat to the champions and a disappointing draw at Brighton last Tuesday, in order not to further squander their already slim chances of winning the title.
Watford v Norwich – 21 January, 21:00
The home side actually had to play Burnley last Tuesday, but even the catch-up game was cancelled again. Against Norwich we now have a cellar duel in the table. The visitors are in third last place, but recently stopped a run of six league defeats in a row with a win against Everton.
On the other hand, the Canaries have only won one of their ten away games this season (1-2-7) and no Premier League side scores less away from home than City – a meagre three goals so far.
However, the home side counter the away weakness of the promoted team with the worst home record of all representatives in the British top flight. There is no real favourite for the encounter at Vicarage Road, which is why betting on a draw in this Premier League clash on matchday 23 is recommended.
Everton v Aston Villa – 22 January, 13:30
Everton, as just mentioned, were themselves beaten by in-form newcomers Norwich last time out. For club officials, that was the last straw and Rafael Benitez has been back on the free coach market since that game.
From a personnel point of view, however, the situation has brightened for the visitors: For example, top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is available again after a long injury break.
In addition, the squad was once again improved during the winter break: Among other things, the 22-year-old Ukrainian Vitaliy Mykolenko was signed for more than 20 million euros from Dynamo Kiev for the defence of the “Toffees”.
The upcoming opponents have also been affected. Everton signed Dutch striker Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa – albeit on a loan basis. For the match in the Premier League within the 23rd matchday, the odds on a mutual goal celebration are now interesting.
The visitors from Birmingham will meet a very attack-minded home team that finally wants to celebrate another success, which suggests an open exchange with numerous chances on both sides.
Furthermore, the predicted course of play is almost the rule in Everton’s home games anyway: only a third of the nine games at Goodison Park did not end with goals for the home side and respective guests.
Arsenal v Burnley – 22 January, 16:00
The Clarets are currently a lost cause: they haven’t won for seven matchdays and they now occupy last place in the table. BFC have now slipped to a relegation place in the table as a result of this dry spell.
Admittedly, they have also been hit by a particularly large number of match cancellations in recent weeks, which is why they have only played 17 league games – the lowest figure in the Premier League. Nevertheless, a severe form crisis can be detected in coach Sean Dyche’s eleven. One shortcoming is the harmless attack.
Norwich alone scored fewer goals than the red wine team. But now the 17th-placed team of the past season will also be without Gnaly Cornet for the next match. The in-form attacker was called up for the Africa Cup and has a very respectable 60 per cent goal rate in his ten appearances for the 1914 FA Cup winners to date.
This quickly makes it clear that his absence will decisively weaken the home side’s attack. For the clash in London in the Premier League on matchday 23, betting tips on a home win to nil are thus offered.
Brentford v Wolverhampton – 22 January, 16:00
The Bees have already had to play an extra league game against Manchester United this week and therefore have a physical disadvantage compared to the fresher visitors. In addition, the Wanderers have stabilised considerably recently: They have not lost for five competitive matches in league and FA Cup.
Instead, four victories have been recorded in this review. In view of the aforementioned points, predictions of an away win in this Premier League clash on matchday 23 are worth considering.
This is also supported by the poor form of the hosts from west London, who have lost three times in a row and conceded no less than ten goals in this review.
Leeds v Newcastle – 22 January, 16:00
Leeds United get a visit from their namesake Newcastle. The home side have enjoyed a recent upturn in form, with wins over Burnley and West Ham, with the latest success in London at fourth-placed Newcastle particularly valuable compared to the previous win against the bottom side in the table.
With three goals in each of the two games in 2022, the Bielsa eleven’s attack in particular has stepped up a gear. Jack Harrison in particular seems to have set his sights high for the new year. He scored a hat-trick in the 3:2 win over West Ham and the attacker also scored in the first game of the 2022 season against Burnley.
His four goals so far this season have all come after the turn of the year! The Magpies, for their part, started the current calendar year with only a home draw. The situation at Newcastle thus remains bleak and precarious as they sit second from last in the table.
For the match at Elland Road in the Premier League on matchday 23, the odds on a home win can be placed at Value. The visitors continue to be shaky, while the home side, as described above, have shown a positive development recently.
Manchester United vs. West Ham – 22 January, 16:00
Manchester United are one of the teams with an extra game this week and so will be more tired than the visitors. Moreover, new coach Ralf Rangnick is already under some pressure. They lost their opener in 2022 1-0 to Wolverhampton and only managed a draw against Aston Villa in league action last weekend.
In the meantime, however, the Villans were at least beaten in the FA Cup, albeit only by a narrow 1-0 margin and thanks to a goal by Gerrard’s team that was disallowed by VAR. So even with Rangnick, things aren’t really running smoothly in Manchester, even if this week’s catch-up game at Brentford was victorious.
The visitors, for their part, recently suffered a defeat against Leeds. However, it should not have been more than a slip-up, as the Londoners had previously won four competitive matches in the league and FA Cup. For the match at Old Trafford in the Premier League on matchday 23, the odds on a mutual goal celebration are of interest.
Southampton v Manchester City – 22 January, 18:30
The “Saints” await the sovereign league leaders, who have not only not lost since the end of October last year, but rather have played all league games victoriously. The series already includes twelve league games and most recently Chelsea, a supposed rival in the championship race, was beaten.
However, Hasenhüttl’s team can rely on their home strength: Southampton have not lost in front of their home crowd for seven home games. For the clash on the south coast in the Premier League within the 23rd round of matches, predictions of an away win, including an interval lead for the visitors, are nevertheless worth considering.
The Citizens are currently playing in a league of their own, so the home side’s home strength can be disregarded this time around.
Crystal Palace vs. Liverpool – 23 January, 15:00
The “Eagles” will be looking forward to the encounter with trepidation: For nine league duels, the Londoners have always lost to the “Reds”. In addition, the last seven home games in the league and FA Cup have been lost to the Mersey side.
The last home match was particularly painful, as it ended in a disastrous 7-0 defeat for the hosts. However, coach Jürgen Klopp’s squad is currently without Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in the attack as both players are playing for their home countries Egypt and Senegal in the Africa Cup.
This naturally weakens the attack, although they did manage a clear 3-0 home win over Brentford last weekend. For the encounter at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on matchday 23, betting tips on an away win seem profitable in view of the statistics mentioned.
The visitors will also be very motivated as they cannot afford any slip-ups in the race for the title due to Guardiola’s very consistent performance at the top of the table.
Leicester v Brighton – 23 January, 15:00
The Foxes are having a mixed season so far but have picked up recently, despite a very unfortunate defeat to Spurs last Wednesday. One example of the upturn is Ademola Lookman.
The player on loan from RB Leipzig scored in two of the last three league games and added two goals on top last weekend in an emphatic 4-1 cup win over league rivals Watford.
Jamie Vardy, however, will not be able to play. The 34-year-old suffered a thigh injury shortly before the turn of the year and will be out for several weeks. As a result, the visitors will be without their best goal scorer and third best scorer in the Premier League (9).
On the other hand, the attacker has not been particularly consistent in his performances in recent weeks and was even ordered to the bench several times by coach Brendan Rodgers. The loss should therefore not weaken Leicester’s attack too much, as players such as Lookman or, above all, James Maddison have successfully stepped into the breach.
The latter striker is undoubtedly in particularly good form at the moment: The 25-year-old scored in eight of the last eleven matches and set up five goals for his team-mates. In light of this, betting on another goal celebration by Maddison in the Premier League clash at Leicester on matchday 23 is a good idea.
His penchant for playing on a Sunday this season also argues for this: only Son Heung-min (7) and Mo Salah (6) have scored more often in the Premier League on this day of the week than he has, with four goals.
Chelsea v Tottenham – Jan 23, 5:30pm
The Blues suffered a major setback in their fight for the title last weekend. The Tuchel eleven lost 1-0 at league leaders and defending champions Manchester City, and only a draw was recorded on the south coast in last Tuesday’s catch-up game against Brighton.
The deficit, which has grown steadily in recent weeks, seems to be crippling the home side and the turmoil surrounding Romelu Lukaku, who is back in the squad, does not seem to have left the Chelsea side unscathed.
The visitors, on the other hand, remain unbeaten in league play under their coach Antonio Conte. However, this streak of six wins and three draws was in great danger in the last match against Leicester.
It took a double strike from substitute Steven Bergwijn in injury time to give Tottenham a 3-2 win. At the same time, the Dutchman proved that he has recovered well from his injury and can now noticeably strengthen the visitors’ attack.
For the London derby in the Premier League on matchday 23, tips on a draw or an away win are therefore a good idea.
