Start a new monster series for Colombia in Lima?
The Colombian national team remained completely undefeated in its first 28 international matches under coach Nestor Lorenzo. The 29th match was the Copa America final, which “Los Cafeteros” lost to the world champions from Argentina just under two months ago. The in-form world number nine would certainly not mind starting a new series with the match in Lima from Friday to Saturday. The prerequisite for this is that a double chance X2 bet between Peru and Colombia comes true
There are few doubts about this, as bookmakers with a German license consider a prediction in favour of the visitors to be far more likely ahead of the Peru v Colombia match. No wonder, because in addition to the impressive form of the Colombians, it should also be taken into account that the home side have a weak Copa America in their legs on the one hand and have hardly got a foot on the ground in the qualifying process so far on the other.
If you want to place a bet on the favored Lorenzo team to win, you can dust off odds of 1.70 between Peru and Colombia. The top odds can be dusted off at both Merkur Bets and Betano. While you can claim a 20 euro free bet when you successfully register at Betano, you can look forward to a bonus of 100 euros in free bets at Merkur Bets.
Peru – Statistics & current form
Over the past 40 years, the Peruvian team has only qualified for the World Cup finals once. In 2018 in Russia, however, it was the end of the line right after the preliminary round. As things stand, it also seems rather unlikely that “La Rojiblanca” will punch their ticket for the 2026 World Cup. After six match days, number 42 in the FIFA world rankings is in last place in the South American qualifiers
Peru’s offense absolutely must improve
The Red & Whites are the only team in the ten-team CONMEBOL qualifiers still waiting for their first three-pointer. Four defeats contrast with two draws. The Peruvians are already five points off a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup finals and have scored just one goal in their six matches so far. Together with Paraguay, “La Blanquirroja” therefore have the weakest offense in South America. This is one of the reasons why it might be a good idea to combine the odds for an away win with under-goals in the run-up to the Peru vs Colombia clash. This is possible in the Betano app, for example.
However, fans from the country located in the west of the continent still have some hope, as only two of the seven international matches under coach Jorge Fossati, who was newly installed in December 2023, have been lost. However, the truth is that they failed to score in four of these seven games. The underdogs should not be underestimated, especially at home, as last year’s narrow defeats against Brazil and Argentina show. A good compromise is therefore the Peru vs. Colombia prediction on the double chance X2 in conjunction with relatively few goals in the course of the match.
Peru’s predicted line-up:
Gallese; Araujo, Zambrano, Callens; Polo, Pena, Cartagena, Quispe, Advincula; Lapadula, Flores
Colombia – statistics & current form
The Colombian national team is slowly running out of superlatives. After bitterly missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the federation turned many things inside out and sought to make lasting changes. The most popular of these was undoubtedly the appointment of new coach Nestor Lorenzo, whose tenure could hardly have gone better so far. With the 58-year-old Argentinian on the sidelines, there have been 19 wins, six draws and just one defeat in 26 games. The Colombians were unbeaten in 28 consecutive matches across all competitions before losing the Copa America final to Argentina
Will Colombia keep another clean sheet away from home?
The test match results from this year show just how strong the Colombians really are. Wins against European champions Spain (1:0), the USA (5:1) and European Championship round of 16 finalists Romania (3:2) are worthy of all honors. The good performances at the aforementioned Copa America add to this. If “Los Cafeteros” can maintain their outstanding form from the 2024 calendar year into the late summer, we have no doubts that they will successfully qualify for the World Cup. The prospects for the away game in Lima are also absolutely rosy.
The showpiece of the third-placed team in CONMEBOL qualification, who are the only South American team not to have suffered a defeat in the first six matchdays, is undoubtedly their defense. While scoring six goals is no heroic feat, conceding just three is more like a top score in continental comparison.
It is also interesting to note that the Colombians have kept a clean sheet three times in three away games. There were goalless draws against Chile and Ecuador and even a 1:0 win in Paraguay. Also interesting: In none of the six qualifying matches was more than one goal scored in the first 45 minutes. In fact, only a third of all nine goals scored by the Colombians came in the first half. We therefore do not necessarily expect much spectacle before the break.
Predicted Colombia line-up:
Vargas; Munoz, Sanchez, Cuesta, Mojica; Rios, Lerma, Arias; Rodriguez, Cordoba, Diaz
Peru – Colombia head-to-head / H2H result
In a total of 60 international matches between these teams, there have been a whopping 22 draws. Nevertheless, Colombia lead the direct comparison with 21 wins and 17 defeats. In the last World Cup qualifiers, the away team always came out on top. In two Copa America duels, each team also won once. Despite the even head-to-head, the Peru vs Colombia betting odds show that the visitors are relatively clear favorites:
Peru – Colombia betting tip
The air is getting thinner and thinner for Peru in the South American World Cup qualifiers. The “Albirrojos” have just two measly points to their name so far. They are the only team still waiting for their first win. Uruguayan coach Fossati’s side now face the only CONMEBOL side yet to suffer a single defeat. The omens are therefore clear. Colombia are rightly considered the favorites and have a good chance of returning from Lima with three points.
However, as Peru are definitely competitive at home and have usually only suffered narrow defeats against the supposed top teams, we are warned about a three-way bet on “Los Cafeteros”. After all, Luis Diaz and Co. saw their impressive unbeaten streak snapped after 28 (!) consecutive international matches with a defeat in the Copa America final against Argentina
However, the Colombians should at least manage a draw. We are therefore pushing a bet on the X2 & Under 1.5 (1st half) between Peru and Colombia and are confidently playing the resulting top odds of 1.60 with seven units at Betano.
