Will Sevilla miss out again?
The last two matchdays could not have gone worse for Sevilla FC. Neither in the away match in Valencia nor in the home match against the league rivals from Vigo were there three points to celebrate. Both LaLiga games ended in a draw, meaning that the Andalusian top club missed two great opportunities to minimise the gap to the royals from Madrid.
This week, the runners-up from Sevilla now have an away game against CA Osasuna. After a strong first half of the season, the Andalusians’ opponents on Saturday have fallen back into the doldrums and are currently languishing in mid-table in the league. The Basque representatives have suffered four defeats in their last six competitive matches.
During this period, CA Osasuna had to say goodbye to the Spanish Cup competition, among other things. Just in time for the international break, they at least managed a small liberation against Granada. Los Rojillos” thus picked up maximum points for the seventh time this season.
Only two of the seven victories, however, came at home. Accordingly, it is not at all surprising that CA Osasuna are classified as underdogs against Sevilla according to the odds. Given the Basques’ poor home record, we think a tip on the visitors is quite obvious.
Osasuna – Statistics & current form
CA Osasuna were still one of the positive surprises in the Spanish top flight at the start of the season. Since the ninth matchday, however, the Basque representative has been going steadily downhill. In the meantime, “Los Rojillos” have not only lost a starting place for the international competition, but are also “only” ten points ahead of the relegation places.
The recent league win against Granada was therefore all the more important, especially as it was only the second time since the ninth matchday that CA Osasuna had taken maximum points in the league. The Basques will be aiming for the next points at home this weekend and will also be looking to improve their poor home record at the Estadio El Sadar.
There have only been two wins at home in eleven home games this season. Five games ended in a draw and CA Osasuna lost four times. Statistically speaking, “Los Rojillos” are the third weakest home team in the league, with only Levante and Cadiz scoring fewer points than the Basque representatives from Pamplona.
Next defeat against Sevilla?
The possibility of a third home win of the current season against Sevilla, of all teams, tends to be ruled out. CA Osasuna have not won a competitive match against Saturday’s opponents from Andalusia since May 2013. Meanwhile, Osasuna have been winless against Sevilla FC for nine matches in a row.
The Basques have even lost their last four matches against the Andalusians in a row. This includes the away match in the first leg of the current season, in which CA Osasuna failed to score against Sevilla FC for the third time in a row. It is quite possible that “Los Rojillos” will also fail this weekend against the Andalusian defensive bulwark.
Head coach Jagoba Arrasate will only have to do without Hernández and Areso on Saturday evening due to injury. There are no other absentees for the hosts from Pamplona.
Predicted line-up of Osasuna:
Herrera – Cote, Garcia, Cruz, Sanchez – Brasanac, Moncayola, Perez, Garcia – Budimir, Avila

Sevilla – Statistics & current form
Sevilla took advantage this season and are in the championship race after a strong season so far. Behind Real Madrid, the Andalusians are currently the strongest team in the Spanish top flight and will – at least that is the interim conclusion after 22 match days – qualify for the top flight again next season.
Most recently, “Los Nervionenses” suffered two bitter setbacks on the last two match days of La Liga. After all, the Andalusians did not pick up three points against either Valencia or Celta Vigo. Both games ended in a draw, whereby the result against Vigo was still quite commendable.
At least they managed to come back from a 2-0 half-time deficit to draw 2-2. Sevilla FC remain unbeaten at home and are the strongest home team in the league with a record of 8-3-0. Away from home, on the other hand, the Andalusian top club currently has a record of 5-4-2.
Will SFC remain unbeaten away from home again?
Sevilla have remained unbeaten at league level in their last three away games. Before the draw against Valencia, Lopetegui’s side had two consecutive away wins against Cadiz and Bilbao. In both away games, Sevilla underpinned their defensive bulwark in particular. With only 16 goals conceded in 22 matchdays, SFC has the best defence in the league anyway.
Therefore, Sevilla should not have too much trouble against the offensive of their upcoming opponents from Pamplona. In the first half of the season, “Los Nervionenses” kept their clean sheet against CA Osasuna. A similar result cannot be ruled out this time either.
Betting fans who want to make a prediction on Osasuna vs. Sevilla can pick up odds of up to 2.25 in the event of success. SFC head coach Lopetegui will probably only have to do without Lamela and Suso for the match in the Basque country. New signing Martial is already in the squad.
Predicted Sevilla line-up:
Bono – Montiel, Carlos, Kounde, Acuna – Jordan, Fernando, Torres – Ocampos, Mir, Martial

Osasuna – Sevilla Direct comparison / H2H balance
For the 100th time CA Osasuna and Sevilla FC will meet on Saturday evening. The Andalusians lead the head-to-head comparison against the Basque club so far with a record of 44-24-31. Especially in the last competitive matches between the two clubs, Sevilla kept the upper hand. Since May 2013, Los Nervionenses have won eight of their last nine competitive matches against Osasuna.
Another match ended in a draw between the two clubs. Most recently, SFC celebrated four wins in a row against “Los Rojillos” and kept the clean sheet against the Basques three times during this period. This was also the case in the first half of the current season, when Sevilla FC secured a comfortable 2-0 home win over Osasuna.
Osasuna – Sevilla tip
Before the international break, Sevilla FC will be looking to make amends this weekend, having suffered some serious setbacks in the championship and a cup defeat to city rivals Betis. The match against CA Osasuna comes in handy for the Andalusians. After all, Sevilla have won eight of their last nine matches with Saturday’s opponents from the Basque country.
Considering how weak CA Osasuna were before the international break, it is obvious that “Los Nervionenses” from Andalusia will improve their record against the Basque representatives this weekend. The Andalusians’ defensive bulwark is one of the main reasons for this.
Sevilla have the strongest defence in the league. CA Osasuna, on the other hand, only have a manageable offensive, scoring an average of just one goal per league match. In addition, the Basque hosts are one of the weakest home teams in the league with a record of 2-5-4.
We therefore expect a one-sided encounter that will be clearly dominated by the guests from Andalusia. It is quite possible that newcomer Martial will also make his mark on SFC’s attacking play. Our betting odds for Osasuna vs. Sevilla are 2.25 on an away win. We are betting seven units on this one.
