Will Nottingham lose again on the second matchday?
Losers among themselves. Neither Nottingham nor West Ham scored on the first matchday of the 2022/23 Premier League. For both teams there was a 0:2 defeat in the season opener in the English top house. The promoted side from Nottingham conceded defeat against Saudi club Newcastle. West Ham, on the other hand, lost at home to City.
For the Hammers, the defeat against the defending champions from Manchester will be bearable. In the second game of the season, the Londoners now have the chance to make amends. As the odds comparison of the betting basis shows, WHU is comparatively clearly favoured at the promoted team from Nottingham.
The bookmakers are currently offering odds of 1.90 on Nottingham vs West Ham for a bet on the visitors from London. The last time the Hammers played at Forest’s City Ground was eight years ago, when they suffered a cup defeat. WHU were thoroughly outplayed and conceded five goals in the process.
The Londoners can now take revenge. In the Premier League, WHU have not lost a game against the red and whites from Nottingham since January 1997 – a good omen before Sunday’s game?
Nottingham – Statistics & current form
This is not how Nottingham Forest envisaged their return to the English top flight. After all, the Red and Whites blew their 2022/23 Premier League season opener with defeat to Saudi club Newcastle United. In their second game of the season, the promoted side will now face the visitors from London’s East End.
Forest have not won a home Premier League game against Sunday’s opponents since January 1986. At the City Ground, the Reds’ stadium, Nottingham remained winless in their last eight PL encounters with WHU. However, bettors looking to back a Nottingham win over West Ham can currently pick up odds of 4.20 on Tip 1.
The Red and Whites have won two of their last three home games against West Ham across all competitions, including a 5-0 thrashing in the 2014 FA Cup. Home strength was also one of Nottingham’s success factors last season. The Red and Whites lost only six of 23 games at home in the 2021/22 Championship.
200th Premier League game for Nottingham Forest
Nottingham’s City Ground has not hosted a PL match since May 1999. The anticipation for Sunday’s game is therefore all the greater among the Reds’ supporters. The recent record in their own stadium is also encouraging. At league level – excluding the play-offs – Nottingham have won their last seven matches at the City Ground.
For the Red and Whites, it is the longest winning streak at home since March 2010, when Nottingham recorded twelve home victories in a row. Head coach Steve Cooper is not expected to make any major changes to the starting eleven on Sunday and will go with a similar starting line-up for the match against WHU.
With Yates and Richards, there are only two players on the Reds’ medical list.
Predicted Nottingham line-up:
Henderson; Worrall, Niakhate, McKenna; Williams, O’Brien, Mangala, Toffolo; Lingard; Awoniyi, Johnson

West Ham – Statistics & current form
After the failed season opener against Manchester City, the Hammers from London’s East End now face their second game of the season at Nottingham Forest. West Ham have won ten of their last 14 Premier League matches against promoted teams. Head coach David Moyes’ side have only lost twice in that period.
Both defeats came against Brentford. It is therefore quite obvious to also make a prediction on the established first division team in Nottingham vs West Ham. The Londoners can not only continue their away series with the Reds, but also end their recent form crisis in the English top flight.
In the Premier League, there has only been one win in the last eight matches. The defeat against City was also WHU’s second consecutive league defeat this season. The last time the Londoners lost three league games in a row was in June 2020.
Does WHU show a defiant reaction after the City defeat?
Moyes’ team did not make the best impression during the summer preparation. All the more surprising, therefore, was the commanding performance against City. The result against the defending champions should not be overestimated, for long stretches it was a game on a par.
If WHU takes the momentum into the upcoming match, three points at the promoted team from Nottingham are obvious. Moyes will only have to do without Aguerd, Ogbonna, Fabianski and Dawson for Sunday’s match at the City Ground. There are no other absentees for the visitors from London.
Predicted West Ham line-up:
Fabianski; Coufal, Johnson, Zouma, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals; Antonio
Last matches played by West Ham:
Premier League
07/08/2022 – West Ham 0 – 2 Manchester City
Friendly club matches
30/07/2022 – Lens 0 – 0 West Ham
23/07/2022 – Luton 1 – 1 West Ham
20/07/2022 – Rangers 3 – 1 West Ham
16/07/2022 – Reading 1 – 1 West Ham
Nottingham – West Ham Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
Competitively, this is the 117th meeting between the two clubs. West Ham have won 46 of 116 matches so far. The Reds from Nottingham, on the other hand, have won 44 times against the Londoners. In addition, 26 matches ended in a draw. The last time the two clubs met in a competitive match was almost eight years ago.
In the 2014 FA Cup, Nottingham beat the Hammers 4-0 to reach the last 32. It was the Reds’ highest-ever win against the visitors from London’s East End. However, Nottingham have not won at home to WHU in the Premier League since 1986.
Nottingham – West Ham Tip
After a false start to the 2022/23 season, Nottingham and West Ham are out to make amends. Sunday’s game is especially important for the Reds from Nottingham. After all, it is the first home game in the English top flight since May 1999 and also the 200th PL game in the club’s history.
Opponents West Ham United, however, will by no means be a supplier of points. Although Nottingham won their last home match against WHU – a 5-0 win in the FA Cup in 2014 – this time there is much more in favour of the visitors from London. After all, West Ham started with a well-rehearsed team and have already put City to the test lately.
Nottingham, on the other hand, failed miserably at Saudi club Newcastle. In addition, the Reds have not won any of their last eight home Premier League games against WHU anyway. We therefore think it is obvious to place a bet on the visitors in the upcoming match between Nottingham and West Ham. For this we use five units.
