Are the Magpies still without a win against the promoted side?
Last-placed Newcastle welcome second-bottom Norwich to the Premier League for the ultimate basement clash. The home side are still the only team in the British top flight without their first win of the season after 13 rounds of matches. Instead, they suffered their seventh defeat of the season last weekend against Arsenal in London.
Only three teams in Premier League history – Swindon (1993/94), Queens Park Rangers (2012/13) and Sheffield United (2020/21) – have failed to pick up a treble after 14 rounds, and all of those clubs were relegated to the Championship at the end of the campaign.
The visitors, for their part, are in their best phase so far this season. Their only two wins have come in the last three rounds of matches, and they recently recorded a draw against Wolves on top of that.
For the clash at St. James’ Park between Newcastle and Norwich, the forecast is for more than 2.5 goals – a number that has already been seen in five of the past six duels.
Newcastle – Statistics & current form
Magpies coach Eddie Howe missed his debut as Newcastle coach on the penultimate matchday due to illness. Last Saturday was the day and against the Gunners United’s new coach could sit on the bench. The match did not help his recovery, however, as the away game was lost 2-0.
The last-placed team in the table cannot now rely on a home bonus either: With three points from six home games, Newcastle rather has the weakest home record in the Premier League. However, the attack is much stronger on home soil than away from home. Ten of the 14 goals scored this season have been scored at home in St. James’ Park.
Do the home side score more than one goal?
On this occasion, the attack alone failed to strike at least once against Chelsea’s best defence in the top flight. With City again the second weakest defence in the league, the odds on the hosts to score at least two goals in the Newcastle-Norwich clash are also superior. A number that NUFC have consistently achieved in two-thirds of their home games.
The North East side also have a defensive problem. No team in the Premier League has conceded more goals than the country’s four-time champions, who last did so 94 years ago. In fact, the Black and Whites concede more goals at home than away from home. The more offensive orientation in the home games by the twelfth-placed team of the previous year brings this balance with it.

Norwich – Statistics & current form
The promoted team is slowly arriving in the Premier League. They haven’t lost for three rounds of matches and within that flashback, they recorded their first treble of the current season. The victories came against Brentford and Southampton – admittedly two teams that are currently only in the bottom third of the table.
Nevertheless, they have been good for the Canaries’ psyche and most recently at least a draw was achieved against Wolverhampton. A game in which there was even more in it for the men from Carrow Road.
Pukki gets better momentum
In the offensive, the newcomer from the east of the island continues to rely mainly on Teemu Pukki. The Finn has scored four goals and thus more than half of all goals on the side of the visitors.
With this in mind, the betting odds on his next goal for the selection from the university city in the match between Newcastle and Norwich are also endowed with value in the eyes of the betting base. The additional tip is underpinned by the penultimate meeting, in which Pukki already scored a hat-trick.
However, there is still room for improvement in the defence, especially in the away games – no team in the British top flight concedes more goals on average than City with 2.66!
Predicted Norwich line-up:
Krul – Gibson – Aarons – Williams – McLean – Normann – Dowell – Less Melou – Idah – Rashica – Pukki

10/31 2021 – Norwich 1 – 2 Leeds
10/23 2021 – Chelsea London 7 – 0 Norwich
Newcastle – Norwich Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
The last time the 1969 Fairs Cup winners and the promoted side met in a competitive match was in February last year. The match in Newcastle ended goalless. Thanks to the draw, the visitors have remained unbeaten (1-2-0) in three comparisons in this pairing in the top and bottom houses of British football.
For the next edition of Newcastle vs Norwich, the odds nevertheless assign the home side the role of favourites.
Newcastle – Norwich Tip
Norwich not only got their first win away from home in their most recent away game at Brentford, but also scored their first two goals of the season. The upward trend of the last few weeks with two wins and a draw was achieved in part through an improved offensive.
For the clash between Newcastle and Norwich, the bet on more than two goals is selected. This is supported by the fact that the two weakest defences in the Premier League face each other. In addition, the Magpies’ home games have always been high-scoring.
On average, no fewer than 4.3 goals have been scored at home – the highest figure in a league-wide comparison. Only in one of the six home games played was the limit of 2.5 goals not exceeded. Furthermore, Norwich travel with the worst away defence, which is why City’s goal average in away games is also a respectable three goals.
The hosts are also expected to be very attacking. After 13 league rounds, they are still waiting for their first win and they will be looking for that in their next match, as the bottom team faces the second-last team in the table.
If they don’t even manage to win at home against their immediate rivals in the relegation battle, the prospects of staying in the division are naturally very bleak. Bet365 offers odds of 1.90 on the Newcastle-Norwich clash for their predictions.
