Sixth home win in a row for the Magpies?

Newcastle take on Crystal Palace in a catch-up game from round 30 of the British top flight. The home side are 14th in the table and the visitors are level on points just above them, although they have played a game less.

For the clash between Newcastle and Crystal Palace, the prediction includes a home win (DNB). If the tip is successful, it would be the home side’s sixth consecutive win on home soil!

Newcastle – Statistics & current form

The Magpies ended their run of three straight defeats on the penultimate matchday with a win over Wolverhampton.

The goal was scored by Chris Wood, who had been warming up in the shirt of his home country New Zealand during the international break, having scored no less than five goals in the four international matches he played in the World Cup qualifiers.

Last weekend, he followed that up with another win against Leicester. Both goals in the 2-1 home win were scored by Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes. The new winter arrival from Lyon seems to have acclimatised quickly at Newcastle.

Homegrown defensively

But the upturn in recent weeks for the four-time champions, last seen 95 years ago, has been largely down to an improved defence.

If the 5-1 defeat to Tottenham at the start of the month is excluded from the review of the past ten games in league play, it can be seen that the Magpies have otherwise conceded only half a dozen goals.

With this in mind, the odds on a home win to nil in the clash between Newcastle and Crystal Palace also make sense.

Will United strike again before the break?

You can also bet on the home side to score in the first half. No team in the Premier League has a higher proportion of its goals scored in the first period compared to the number after the break.

The prediction is backed up by the opposite statistic of the visitors. They concede 57 per cent of their goals in the first half – the highest figure in a league-wide comparison!

Another positive aspect for coach Eddie Howe’s team is the increase in home strength. As mentioned at the beginning, the last five home games have all been won by last year’s twelfth-placed team!

A proud record that only the traditionally strong Reds from the Mersey can boast within the Premier League.

Crystal Palace – Statistics & current form

The Eagles were last defeated by Leicester in the league. This ended a run of seven previous unbeaten games in the Premier League and FA Cup.

The visitors were also challenged in the latter competition last weekend. They faced Chelsea and in the London derby at Stamford Bridge they suffered another defeat in the form of a 2-0 loss.

Zaha is on target

On the offensive, hopes are currently pinned on Wilfried Zaha. The player from the Ivory Coast is the best scorer on the Glaziers’ side with eleven goals and his form is particularly good at the moment.

The 29-year-old has scored four goals in the last six competitive matches. Out of form, however, is Conor Gallagher, who follows Zaha in the club’s scoring charts. The Briton has registered just two goals in 14 appearances already in 2022.

The 14th-placed team of the past season has also been lacklustre in its away games, with coach Patrick Vieira’s side having won just three of the 15 away matches they have played (3-6-6).

Newcastle – Crystal Palace Direct comparison / H2H record

The Magpies and the two-time FA Cup finalists drew 1-1 in the first leg, but from an objective point of view, the Londoners deserved the win in the match at Selhurst Park thanks to a dominant style of play.

The six-time FA Cup winners’ last home game against Crystal Palace again ended in an away win for the Capitals just over a year ago and it was the Eagles’ second success in the reverse fixture in their last three visits to NUFC (2-0-1).

Newcastle – Crystal Palace Tip

The home side have stabilised considerably in the recent past. Looking back at the past ten rounds of matches, only four teams from the British top flight have been more successful on the road.

For the clash between Newcastle and Crystal Palace, the forecast therefore includes a home win, including the protection of a draw.

The home side’s upward form curve has been particularly noticeable in matches played on home soil: The Magpies have won all five of their last five home games.

The visiting side from Selhurst Park have also been weak away from home, winning just three of their 15 matches away from home. Only Everton, Burnley and Norwich have managed to beat them. Against this backdrop, there is at least no sign of a London triumph.
