Yesterday’s medical consultation in London confirmed the need for surgery to resolve the tendon problem. He is expected to be out for around two months.

David Neres is set for ankle surgery. The news, which is not yet official, came after the Brazilian winger consulted with Napoli’s medical team and a specialist in London, from where he returned late yesterday evening. The former Ajax and Benfica player was injured on January 4 during the away win against Lazio, suffering an unnatural twist of the ankle due to a hole in the pitch. Ten days later, in agreement with the medical staff, Conte called up Neres for the comeback against Parma and brought him on in the 14th minute of the second half, but Neres came off after just 32 minutes due to a flare-up of pain.

Neres’ injury—  In recent weeks, the Brazilian has undergone numerous rehabilitation sessions, but the pain has never gone away. So, to definitively resolve the tendon injury, Neres will undergo surgery. The expected layoff is about two months, so the Brazilian winger could be back at Conte’s disposal around the March break for international fixtures.
