Can Franjiverdes turn the corner again?
Elche CF were relegated from La Liga very early last season and had plenty of time to set the course for a successful second division season. However, direct promotion will not be possible. However, at least a place in the play-offs would be possible if Franjiverdes get their act together. For this to happen, however, tip 2 for Mirandes against Elche would have to work out. A further loss of points could ultimately widen the gap to sixth place to as much as five points
After the recent slump, in which only one of eight league games was won (two draws, five defeats), it will be very difficult to make up the three points to sixth place. However, given that today’s hosts are playing against relegation, the prediction for Mirandes against Elche must still lean towards the visitors, who were held to a goalless draw by the Rojillos in the first leg.
Mirandes go into the 40th matchday of La Liga 2 with a three-point lead over the first relegation spot. If the Rojillos manage to win at home, it could theoretically be a small preliminary decision in terms of staying in the league if their closest rivals Alcorcón and Amorebieta slip up. However, Mirandes are not exactly in good form. The club from the north of Spain have lost both of their last two league games without scoring a goal.
Our betting recommendation is therefore aimed at a point for the visitors in a match that is unlikely to be too high-scoring. We recommend the combined bet on the double chance X2 with under 3.5 goals.
Mirandes – Statistics & current form
The tranquil town of Miranda de Ebro, located in the province of Burgos in the northern Spanish autonomous region of Castile-León, is only known to most people – if at all – because of the Camino de Santiago. In nominal terms, the local club Deportivo Mirandes is a rather small light in Spanish soccer.
Founded in 1927, the club has never played in La Liga before. In fact, the current season is only the tenth season in the second-highest Spanish division in the club’s almost 100-year history
At home, Mirandes have been quite solid
However, staying in the league is not yet a foregone conclusion. Coach Alessio Lisci’s side are just three points clear of the first relegation spot with three matchdays to go. However, this is primarily due to their poor performance away from home. The Rojillos have won just three of their 20 away games in La Liga 2 (seven draws, ten defeats).
At home at El Estadio Municipal de Anduva, the northern Spaniards have 28 points. The team from Miranda de Ebro have scored in twelve of their 19 home games in the 2023/24 season (eight wins, four draws). Nevertheless, the odds are now against the home side in Mirandes v Elche
Mirandes with problems in front of goal recently
Not only was CD Mirandes too vulnerable defensively, as evidenced by the 52 goals already conceded – the third-highest figure of all 22 teams in La Liga 2.
For example, Alessio Lisci’s side have only won two of their last nine league games (two draws, five defeats) because they have failed to score in five of those nine games. The last two league games also ended in 1-0 defeats against Real Valladolid and Racing de Santander.
Likely line-up for Mirandes:
Juan – Barbu, Barcia, Tomeo – Gómez, Campos, Rodríguez, Alcedo – Martín, La Gumina – Martínez
Elche – Statistics & current form
Elche Club de Fútbol were relegated from La Liga last summer after a season to forget. A whopping 16 points were missing the first non-relegation place at the end of the season, as 23 of the 38 league games were lost (five wins, ten draws).
The only advantage of this was that those responsible were able to start planning for the second tier early on in 2023 and put together a team that was basically competitive. After slight teething troubles, the signs recently pointed to a direct return to the country’s top division
Can Elche flip the switch again?
When Franjiverdes were in a direct promotion place for the last time after matchday 31, a new downward spiral set in at the worst possible time. Under coach Sebastián Beccacece, who continues to enjoy the trust of those in charge, just five out of a possible 24 points were secured from the last eight league games (one win, two draws, five defeats).
The faces in the province of Alicante are correspondingly long after the latest 0:3 against Huesca. Not only is the direct promotion place now nine points away, which has become practically unattainable with three games still to play, but they are now also three points off sixth place, which would still entitle them to participate in the play-offs.
Elche have been very vulnerable recently, especially defensively
If Mirandes’ bet on an away win against Elche doesn’t work out for the team from the east coast of Spain, their promotion dreams could potentially be over. However, the fact that Franjiverdes have scored in ten of their 19 away games in the 2023/24 season (six wins, four draws) is encouraging.
Moreover, the strong start to the year showed that there is potential in terms of play, with 23 out of a possible 30 points scored in ten consecutive league games between mid-January and mid-March – often thanks to defensive stability, although this has recently been lost. While there were still eight white vests in those ten games, there has recently been at least one goal conceded eight times in a row.
Predicted line-up for Elche:
Dituro – Salinas, Bigas, Gaspar, Josan – Morente, Nwankwo, Castro, Bermejo – Fernández, El Ghezouani
Mirandes – Elche Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Head to head: 5 – 2 – 3
There have only been ten competitive matches between the two clubs so far and, surprisingly, CD Mirandes lead the direct comparison with five wins. The Rojillos also won their last home game against Elche CF 1-0, while the first leg in the province of Alicante ended in a goalless draw on 19 December 2023.
Mirandes – Elche betting tip
Despite the recent weak phase, our prediction for Mirandes against Elche tends towards a point win for the visitors, for whom the promotion train has not yet completely departed. However, the Rojillos may still need points to stay up, which is why the home side will certainly not surrender without a fight. However, the northern Spaniards have lost their last two league games in a row without scoring, which also makes a possible comeback uncertain
The first leg between the two clubs did not produce a single goal. Now, too, 0-0 is one of the realistic outcomes. Despite our bias in favor of Franjiverdes, it makes sense to consider the possibility of sharing the points, which is why we recommend the double chance X2 at under 3.5 goals.
