Will the Reds put the next damper on their nemesis?

With 20 title wins, Manchester United are still the record champions in England. However, the last Premier League triumph dates back to 2013. In recent years, the “Red Devils” have always had to give way to other teams, usually even to their own city rivals or to their arch-enemies from Liverpool.

At the moment, there is still not much to suggest that coach Solskjaer’s team will have a say in the Premier League title. Their performances have been too inconsistent of late. One point from the last three league games underlines exactly that. Against this background, it is not really surprising that lower odds are being offered on the away win between Manchester United and Liverpool.

The Reds are in impressive form at the moment. As the only team in the English top flight, Klopp’s charges are still unbeaten on the road. In addition, the 3-2 win over Spanish champions Atletico Madrid during the week was a real exclamation mark.

With Mo Salah and Co. currently brimming with confidence and having enjoyed playing their hated rivals in the recent past, a prediction on the visitors’ treble between Manchester United and Liverpool might be a good idea.

Manchester United – Statistics & current form

Manchester United are still alive! That’s the realisation you had to come to last Wednesday after the Champions League home game against Atalanta Bergamo. At the break, the English record champions were still trailing 0:2, so that the first experts were already predicting a change of coach in the north-west of the country. However, thanks to an enormous improvement in the second half, the star ensemble from the industrial city turned the game around and won 3-2 in the end.

It is possible that this comeback success can release new forces, although we, as hard realists and analysts, tend to make the critical assessment that primarily deals with the first 45 minutes. The fact is that the negative performance in the first half was no flash in the pan. Cristiano Ronaldo and his colleagues have also failed to do much in recent weeks.

Manchester United lack home strength

In the Premier League, the title contenders have recorded just one point from their past three games. They lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, drew 1-1 with Everton and lost 4-2 at Leicester last weekend. In the top flight, too, Solskjaer’s team is clearly lagging behind the high expectations in terms of performance and results.

To make matters worse, the last matches against the arch-rivals from Merseyside also did not go as desired. ManUtd have only won one of their last ten direct Premier League encounters against LFC. Last year, they suffered a 4-2 defeat at home.

The Red Devils have been waiting for a clean sheet for nine home games in the English top flight. Eight points from the last seven league games at Old Trafford are also a sad figure, which makes it almost impossible to bet on the visitors between Manchester United and Liverpool.

Raphael Varane, the real head of defence, is still out injured. Otherwise, the Norwegian coach can draw on a full complement of players, although the question must be asked whether a 36-year-old CR7 is capable of playing two energy-sapping matches against the absolute top teams in Europe at his best level within the space of four days.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

At Anfield Road, they certainly like to see their arch-enemy Manchester United weaken. All the more reason for the fans to look forward to the upcoming head-to-head clash late on Sunday afternoon. At the moment, it seems as if LFC supporters are almost certain that their in-form team will defeat their long-time rivals, thus distancing them in the standings to seven points already.

The Reds’ seemingly endless confidence is based primarily on their strong performances so far this season. Jürgen Klopp’s 2021/22 team has played twelve competitive matches and has won nine of them. The other three matches all ended in draws. The champions of 2020 have not lost at all yet.

Mo Salah in the form of his life?

The attack is playing particularly impressively. 22 goals scored in eight matchdays is almost an average of three goals per game. In the Champions League, they even scored eleven goals of their own in the three victories against Porto, Milan and Atletico Madrid.

This outstanding figure is closely linked to what coach Klopp calls “the best player in the world at the moment”: Mo Salah. The Egyptian has scored at least once in each of the last nine competitive matches. It is quite possible that this record series will be extended at the weekend, as the 29-year-old scored three goals in two away games in the Theatre of Dreams last year.

Generally, the odds are pretty good in our eyes that the odds will pay off for a prediction on the visitor in the Manchester United vs Liverpool hate duel. Not only are LFC without defeat for a season-high 18 Premier League games, but they have also scored three or more goals in each of their past five visiting games at league level. As a fun fact, the Reds have not lost any of their last 25 (!) matches against opponents with “United” in their name. In terms of personnel, the situation at the cult club has also eased. At the moment, only Thiago and Elliott are missing due to injury.

Manchester United – Liverpool Tip

For many decades, Manchester United and Liverpool supporters have been arguing over who is really the most successful team in English football history. If the current season is anything to go by, there should be no two opinions about LFC being ahead at the moment.

While United have picked up just one point from their past three Premier League games, conceded two defeats and are in danger of losing their grip on the table, the mood on Merseyside could hardly be more exuberant. In twelve competitive games in 2021/22, there has not been a single defeat, but 36 goals have already been scored! Klopp’s side have not lost any of their last 18 Premier League games. The Red Devils have also suffered just one defeat in their past ten direct encounters.

In our opinion, it therefore makes the most sense to bet on an away win between Manchester United and Liverpool. Mo Salah and his team-mates are in outstanding form, brimming with confidence and, what’s more, they will be up against an opponent who has looked ailing and has rarely been able to perform to its full potential at home in recent times anyway.
