Will RB get another thrashing at the Etihad Stadium?
From the experience of many years, we know that the fifth matchday in the Champions League already features games of limited importance. Tuesday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium is about first and second place, but because both teams have already made it through to the round of 16, our Manchester City vs RB Leipzig betting tip also looks at how much both clubs want to win the group
As expected, the defending champions from the island are still unblemished after four matchdays in this preliminary round Group G. After four wins, they have twelve points. A draw on Tuesday is enough to underpin first place. However, the Cityzens will hardly be playing for a point, but will be doing everything they can to consolidate their position as the best team in Europe at the moment.
The Bulls can travel to England without much pressure. The nine points mean at least second place. Perhaps it would be presumptuous to expect a great away game now, firstly because the Saxons have their problems away from home and secondly because Manchester City have conceded a total of 13 goals in two games. Between Manchester City and RB Leipzig, that not only sounds like a prediction for a home win, but also a lot of goals
However, we can also assume that at least the defending champions will make a major rotation. The Premier League is currently more important in order to keep the chasing pack at bay. This also applies to the Bulls and the Bundesliga, but they don’t have the personnel options that the English have
Manchester City – statistics & current form
Pep Guardiola has been coach of the Cityzens for seven years now. However, he is currently going through the best phase with his team, although this has been going on for some time. Not only are Manchester City the reigning champions of the Premier League, the Sky Blues are also the measure of all things in England and have won the championship in each of the last three years
Slipped to second place in the Premier League
Currently, however, Manchester is only in second place and one point behind leaders Arsenal. With Liverpool and Aston Villa, they have two more rivals breathing down their necks. The Premier League currently seems to be the tougher place to play compared to the top flight. This is another reason why we are looking at the odds for a handicap win for the hosts in the match between Manchester City and RB Leipzig.
Especially in the Champions League, the Cityzens don’t let anything burn anyway. They have been unbeaten in this competition for 17 matches. They have not lost in their own stadium in the top flight for 27 games. Furthermore, Manchester City not only have the best offense in the Champions League, but have also scored the most goals in the Premier League. We can therefore also expect a lot of goals on Tuesday.
Last weekend, the top match against Liverpool in the Premier League was on the program. Erling Haaland, who incidentally scored eleven times in seven games against the Bulls, put his colors in front after just over half an hour. However, Liverpool drew 1-1 ten minutes before the end. With this draw, Manchester City had to relinquish top spot in the English league for the time being.
Manchester City’s expected line-up:
RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form
The Bulls can be quite happy that they have been given an easy group in the Champions League, because things are not really going well for Marco Rose’s team at the moment. They can’t complain at home. The only defeat at the Red Bull Arena this season was in the first leg against the Cityzens. But when you go on the road, not much usually goes right. The Saxons have lost three of their last four away games
Big problems on the road
That means, conversely, that they have already been eliminated from the DFB Cup and missed out on defending their title there. They have also slipped to fifth place in the Bundesliga, which would only entitle them to participate in the Europa League next season. With these figures, especially away from home, we would not predict the visitors to win a point between Manchester City and RB Leipzig
This is also due to the fact that English stadiums are hardly a good place for the Bulls. Leipzig have suffered four defeats on English soil in their last four away matches in the Champions League, conceding a total of 20 goals in the process. That’s an average of five goals per game. This also suggests that a handicap win for the Cityzens or betting on over-goals could certainly be exciting.
In the top flight, there were actually two away wins in Bern and Belgrade. Last weekend, RB Leipzig also had to travel in the Bundesliga. They were knocked out of the DFB Cup in Wolfsburg four weeks ago and were also beaten by the Wolves in the league. Yussuf Poulsen equalized the early deficit, but despite a really decent performance, the Saxons ultimately lost 2-1.
Predicted line-up for RB Leipzig:
Manchester City – RB Leipzig head-to-head comparison / H2H result
This is the third time that Manchester City and RB Leipzig have been drawn together. There were also two group games in 2021. Last season, the two clubs faced each other in the round of 16 and this year it’s the group stage again. In the direct comparison of the five matches so far, the English side have the edge with 3:1 wins and one draw.
However, the Bulls do not like traveling to England and obviously not to the Etihad Stadium. They lost 3-6 on their first appearance there and last year Leipzig even lost 7-0. The first leg of the current season was a little closer. The Cityzens won 3:1 in Leipzig after goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku, with Lois Openda equalizing 1:1 for Leipzig in the meantime
Manchester City – RB Leipzig betting tip
Manchester City are the clear favorites in this clash. The defending champions have not lost in the top flight for 17 matches. In fact, they haven’t lost at home in the Champions League for 27 games. We therefore also expect the English side to win on Tuesday. The only question is how this will come about.
Leipzig have repeatedly failed to conceal their weaknesses away from home this season. In general, they have always been well beaten in England recently. The last match at the Etihad Stadium alone ended in a 7-0 defeat, with Erling Haaland scoring five goals and Leipzig being the club against whom the Norwegian has the best goal tally in professional soccer with eleven goals in seven games
We can therefore imagine that the Cityzens will win the game with a Haaland goal. At the end of the day, we can’t rule out a resounding victory for England. Although both teams have already qualified for the round of 16, as reigning champions City certainly have more to lose than the Bulls. In the end, we have decided to play the odds on a handicap win (-1.5) for the hosts between Manchester City and RB Leipzig
