The final for the English championship!

The championship race in the English Premier League seemed already decided a few weeks ago. Even at the beginning of April, Arsenal FC still had a whopping eight-point lead over Manchester City. However, ahead of the direct duel, which electrifies the masses on the island and is by no means sparing of superlatives, the constellation is more exciting than ever. It is not for nothing that there is talk of an anticipated final for the title in the motherland of soccer. Alfred Hitchcock could not have written a better script.

While the only two remaining contenders for the trophy are still separated by five points, the Citizens have played two matches less and therefore have the title in their own hands again.

If the home win between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening proves to be the case, Pep Guardiola’s team will take a big, perhaps even decisive step towards the championship.

You can find many more statistics and hints in the Manchester City vs Arsenal prediction below, but it only provides a subjective assessment. What counts is on the pitch and that’s where it’s all about on Wednesday night from 21:00 onwards!

Manchester City – statistics & current form

For Manchester City, the 2022/23 season has taken a very positive course. While the Sky Blues initially had to contend with unusual lapses as well as a surprising inconsistency at the national level, the team of head coach Pep Guardiola has long since risen again to become the industry leader. In recent weeks and months, there is no more in-form and dominant team in Europe than the Citizens!

This thesis is based on several impressive statistics. For example, Manchester City is now unbeaten in 16 competitive matches in all competitions. Eleven of the past twelve matches have also been victorious. Only at the Allianz Arena did the sky-blue-and-white team have to settle for a draw, although this was accepted without any worries after the commanding 3-0 first-leg victory in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The monumental statistics speak for themselves

Equally outstanding reads the home record of the reigning English champions, who have won all eleven home games across the competition in the 2023 soccer year. In the course of these eleven consecutive victories in their own stadium, a goal ratio of 40:5 can be recorded. In the last five home games, the team has scored 23 goals and never less than three per game.

Based on the aforementioned facts alone, there is almost no alternative to betting on a high-scoring match between Manchester City and Arsenal and/or a home win for the Sky Blues. A corresponding combination of these two approaches should also make sense. At Betano sports betting, a home win combined with at least three goals in the course of the match can be alluded to at top odds of 2.12.

Another argument for a top match with many goals is provided by the name of Erling Haaland, who continues to chase records in his first Premier League year. He already has an impressive 32 goals in the league this season. Incidentally, 20 of those 32 goals have been scored at home. Since Cristiano Ronaldo and Fernando Torres in 2007/08, no other player has scored more times at home than the Norwegian goal machine. Unsurprisingly, there is only a 1.70 in the top for the former Dortmunder to score again.

Arsenal – statistics & current form

If Arsenal Football Club were only in second place at the end of May after matchday 38, the players would definitely have to look at their own noses. While it would be an exaggeration to speak of a typical slump of a young team in an incomparable pressure situation, it nevertheless became clear on the last few match days that the ease, concentration and also the self-evidence has been somewhat lost.

The best example of this was last Friday’s home game against bottom side Southampton, in which the Gunners not only fell behind 0:1 after just a few seconds, but were also 3:1 down at one point. The fact that they eventually managed a late 3-3 draw was good for the morale of the squad, but it was far too little in view of the tight championship race. For the third time in a row, Arteta’s side only managed a draw. It was only this that allowed City to move back up in the standings.

There is no shortage of spectacle in Arsenal games

The biggest problem for the leaders at the moment is undoubtedly the defense. There were a whopping seven goals conceded in the review of the most recent three league games. In mid-March, keeper Ramsdale was able to keep his clean sheet for the last time in the Premier League. He has conceded two or more goals in six of the last eleven league games.

However, it is also worth mentioning that the Londoners have always scored at least twice in the last eight PL matches.  In nine of the past 13 Gunners matches in the strongest soccer league in Europe, a bet on the over 2.5 would also have gone through, which is why we are in good spirits to make the right choice with a Manchester City vs. Arsenal prediction on three or more goals after 90 minutes on Wednesday evening.

However, looking at the chances of the visiting team, the encouragement for the capital club is limited. Mikel Arteta has lost all of his previous six PL duels against City as a coach, plus the Gunners have already lost to the Sky Blues twice this season in the first leg as well as in the cup. Eleven consecutive defeats in the English top flight against their upcoming opponents underpin the pronounced underdog role of the Red and Whites, which is reflected in the betting odds on the three-way market between Manchester City and Arsenal.

Manchester City – Arsenal Direct comparison / H2H balance

The head-to-head of these two clubs has been a crystal clear affair in favor of the Citizens in the recent past, who now stand at eleven (!) Premier League wins in a row against Arsenal. The Londoners have also been unable to win anything at the Etihad Stadium. The past six away games at the Sky Blues’ home ground have been lost by the Gunners, with a goal difference of 3:17.

Add to that the fact that the current leaders have scored just three goals in their last ten PL games against Manchester City, and it’s clear why Guardiola’s team has long been considered a top contender for the English championship by the best bookmakers.

Manchester City – Arsenal Tip

Although only the 33rd matchday is on the agenda in the English top flight during the week, not a few are talking about an absolute deciding match for the championship in the Premier League. The current runners-up from Manchester enjoy home advantage against the league leaders from London. This is one of the reasons why the betting odds are clearly in favor of the home team ahead of the explosive and highly interesting top match between Manchester City and Arsenal.

We fully agree with this assessment and argue that Guardiola’s team has made a more stable and consistent impression recently and has an outstanding record against the Gunners. The Sky Blues have won both of their competitive matches against Arsenal this season, while City have won eleven consecutive PL games against the Londoners, and Mikel Arteta’s record reads anything but promising with six defeats in six attempts against his maestro from Catalunya.

But because the long stretches of the season so carefree playing cannoniers should not be underestimated and offensively continue to provide a lot of furore, we prefer the tip between Manchester City and Arsenal on the over 2.5. Although the top odds here is only a 1.61, but we risk a very confident bet of eight units and justify this, among other things, with the fact that the two best attacking lines in the league face each other.
