Malmö aim for another CL coup
While the continent’s best women’s teams battle it out for the European title from Wednesday, a number of teams are already back in action at club level too. In the race for the few remaining places in the Champions League, the Swedish champions will once again have to prove their staying power.
Last year, Malmö made it through all four preliminary rounds before finally finding themselves in the CL group stage. A sensational achievement that should in no way be diminished by the fact that they only picked up a single point in Pool H.
In the first qualifying round, the Icelandic champions Vikingur will now ask for a dance, whereby the cards are basically clearly distributed in this match. It is no coincidence that all the betting odds on Malmö FF vs. Vikingur are clearly in favour of the hosts.
Nevertheless, we expect this all-Scandinavian clash to be a fairly close affair, as the favourites have not really shown themselves to be sovereign in the league lately. While many other European clubs have just finished their holidays, the Swedes might also be feeling a certain summer fatigue. It is quite possible that they will only be cooking on the back burner next Tuesday.
Malmö FF – Statistics & current form
The 22-time Swedish champions are a long way from first place in the league at the moment. In the Allsvenskan, which runs according to the calendar year, they are currently in fifth place.
Consequently, there is still a lot of ground to make up in the late summer and autumn if they want to have a chance of a place in the CL next year. Therefore, a censorship is now to accompany the entry into the international business.
Summer should bring turnaround
In the duel Malmö FF vs. Vikingur, a bet on the hosts is obvious, as they have by far the better quality of players. A win on Tuesday could be a spark for the coming English weeks.
After four defeats in the last six league games, it is clear that something has to change. The fact that their own box has only been kept clean once in the past seven competitive games is also indicative of the current difficulties at the Swedish record champions.
European Cup as a good place to be
The team is also in a positive mood because they almost always perform well at international level. The fact that they made it through four rounds last year and actually reached the CL group stage at the end is impressive and shows what this team is capable of in play-off mode.
Although only one point was earned in the top flight last year, they were up against absolute footballing greats. For the upcoming match, the legionnaires Birmancevic or Pena are especially good for a goal.
The bottom line is that a prediction on Malmö FF vs. Vikingur is hard to refute.

Vikingur – Statistics & current form
In the league, the Icelandic champions have been on a run for weeks, winning all of their last six league games. On the national level, however, they still cannot get past local rivals Breidablik at the moment.
No matter how well things are going on the Nordic island, the odds are all against the underdog in the duel Malmö FF vs. For the third time in the new millennium, they are represented at the international level, and like both times before, they will most likely be eliminated in the first qualifying round.
Limitation of damage is the highest priority
If it is going to be difficult if not impossible to make it to the next qualifying round, head coach Olafsson’s squad will at least want to present themselves properly and they have every opportunity to do so. In the past two months, they have scored at least one goal in every competitive match.
However, goals against are to be expected, because the home side have a lot of quality up front and even at national level, the defence of the six-time Icelandic champions is rarely watertight. Only three times in the current league season have they finished a match without conceding a goal.
Thus, a bet on both sides to score could be an option for Malmö FF vs. Vikingur, but in general, various variants are recommended that see the visitors in the loser’s role.
Predicted line-up of Vikingur:
Ingason – Gonnersson, Sigurdsson, Ekroth, Tomasson – Punyed, Magnussen – Andrason, Agnarsson, Ingason – Ingason

Malmö FF – Vikingur Direct comparison / H2H balance
For the first time in the history of the Swedish record champions, they face a club from Iceland. This comes as quite a surprise, but does not change the starting position. The home side holds all the aces for the upcoming encounter.
Malmö FF – Vikingur Tip
The Swedes have the opportunity to start the upcoming summer season with a win on Tuesday, as Scandinavia plays through without a break. The duel with a comparably weak opponent can bring self-confidence, but should by no means be taken lightly.
In the end, we expect a clear starting position, but we do not think that the hosts will win by a landslide. Rather, the prediction on a close game is an interesting option for Malmö FF vs. Vikingur, for example, there are good odds for the option “Draw with handicap Malmö”.
In the first leg, the favourites will not be throwing everything forward, safety before risk should be the motto
