Clear number for Barcelona?
This coming Tuesday, Mallorca and Barcelona will meet two teams that regularly have the pleasure of dueling. Coach Aguirre’s team, for example, will meet Barcelona, currently the team with the strongest form in La Liga. After the Catalans’ championship, their mission in 2023/24 is clearly to defend their title.
They want to dethrone their long-time arch-rivals Real Madrid with another championship in Spain. Barcelona can definitely be trusted to do that, as they have made considerable transfers and signed young and hungry players, such as Portuguese international Joao Felix, who immediately played his way into the starting eleven with good performances.
The fact that Barcelona has always been a good address is also shown by the transfer of Joao Cancelo, who was recently under contract with FC Bayern. This worked to Barcelona’s advantage and so those responsible were also able to convince him to move to Catalonia. With Xavi, Barcelona have a former world-class player as coach who has achieved everything in world football and who, with the necessary time, has been able to put together a world selection. Thus, they have balanced the mix of experienced players as well as young talents and manage to deliver consistent results.
In the duel between Mallorca and Barcelona, the bookmakers’ predictions see clear advantages for the home side. After Barcelona’s spectacular 3:2 victory after trailing 0:2 and thanks to a Robert Lewandowski who is currently back in form, it should be an extremely difficult task for the men from Mallorca. Having conceded five goals in their last league game, there should certainly be some uncertainty ahead of the clash against the Barcelona superstars.
Mallorca – Statistics & current form
Mallorca started the new season anything but well. With five points from six league games, Mallorca currently occupy 16th place and are just one point away from a direct relegation spot. Due to the current form, we believe that betting on over 2.5 goals in the match between Mallorca and Barcelona is quite realistic.
Mallorca have conceded a whopping 10 goals this season, five of which came in their last away game at Girona FC. Another interesting statistic is that in three out of six games at least two goals were scored in the first half. Accordingly, we can probably look forward to plenty of goals.
In Veda Muriqi, they have had an experienced striker for three years, who contributed an impressive 15 goals and three assists in 35 league games last season and thus played a big part in the Mallorcans reaching an outstanding ninth place, with only 37 goals scored in 38 games. The defence should also have a lot to do on Tuesday against Barcelona. It will be interesting to see in which tactical alignment Aguirre will send his team onto the field against this star ensemble. In the Mallorca vs. Barcelona match, odds of 2.75 are being offered for a first half with over 1.5 goals.
Can the Mallorca defence stand up to the Stars?
This should be a tough task as Barcelona have so much quality on the offensive with Joao Felix, Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres that we expect there to be plenty of scoring chances. It will take a fighting and passionate attitude, as well as a common cohesion, to prevail against this team. Mallorca, however, have only managed to go without conceding a goal in one league match so far this season.
Predicted Mallorca line-up:
Mallorca (Expected line-up) 5-4-1
Barcelona – Statistics & current form
As already mentioned in the introduction, Barcelona managed the almost impossible and turned a 0:2 deficit into a 3:2 home win against Celta Vigo within eight minutes in their last league match. Between the 81st and 89th minute, the former Bayern legionnaires (Lewandowski, Cancelo) turned the game in favour of the Catalans. Joao Cancelo scored the celebrated winner on an assist from the super-talented Gavi.
Barcelona seem to be better this season than they have been for a long time. They were able to close the last gaps in the squad with clever new arrivals and quickly compensate for the departure of Ousmane Dembele.
Barcelona are in exceptional form at the start of the new season. After six matchdays, they are ahead of the surprise team from Girona at the top of the table, both with 16 points but one goal less conceded. Thanks to Atletico Madrid, who won the city derby against Real Madrid 3:1, Real Madrid slipped back to third place for the time being.
Joao Felix, probably the most underrated player in Europe
Joao Felix is the discovery at Barcelona. The management of the Catalans was able to get hold of the Portuguese superstar, but only on loan. However, according to Xavi, this does not seem to stress him out. He is glad that Felix is under contract with FC Barcelona for the upcoming tasks.
He is currently repaying this with world-class performances and is also doing without a lot of money. The only thing that seems to be important for Felix is the recognition of the team, the coach and the entire club, because only in this way are such performances possible. This also applies to newcomer Cancelo, who enjoys the absolute trust of the entire club.
Barcelona have not yet lost any of their six league games. On the first matchday, of all days, they only picked up one point and then won six competitive matches in a row. They scored a whopping 21 goals in the weeks that followed. It would make sense to take a closer look at the betting odds on the away team to win in the Mallorca vs Barcelona match.
Predicted Barcelona line-up:
FC Barcelona (Expected line-up) 4-3-3
Mallorca – Barcelona Direct comparison / H2H balance
A remarkable statistic targets the last eleven meetings between these two clubs. Barcelona have won all of their last eleven competitive matches against Mallorca. An outstanding eight games of them even to nil. A horror statistic for Mallorca, who certainly do not enjoy the best starting position. Nevertheless, they should forget the games that lie in the past and try to put everything on the line in front of their home crowd in order to perhaps bring home something worthwhile in the end.
Mallorca – Barcelona Tip
In summary, betting on an away win in the Mallorca vs Barcelona match yields good odds. Barcelona, especially after their remarkable comeback, have a lot of self-confidence and playfulness in their luggage to master the away hurdle with flying colours. In our opinion, Mallorca will have to have a great day to be able to pose a threat to the superstars around goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
After Real Madrid’s first slip-up, Barcelona are likely to go into the game with even more euphoria and fun, as they want to defend their lead in the table with all their might. We therefore assume that the Catalans will live up to their role as favourites and land a commanding victory. Furthermore, we also check the odds on at least three goals in the match between Mallorca and Barcelona. The Mallorcan defence has been too susceptible in recent games.
