Clear number for the leaders?

19 out of a possible 24 points were picked up by 1. FC Magdeburg in the first eight match days of the 3. Liga, giving the men from Saxony-Anhalt a commanding lead at the top of the table. They are already five points clear of the relegation places. Accordingly, the FCM is well prepared for the ninth matchday, when relegated Würzburg will be visiting the MDCC-Arena.

The Rothosen had to let a total of 21 players go after their relegation from the 2. Bundesliga and have not yet arrived in the 3. Liga in any way. As one of only three teams, the FWK is still completely without a win, which makes it unsurprising that the odds on Magdeburg against Würzburger Kickers are swinging in the direction of the FCM.

Even in the 2019/20 season, when both teams last played together in the 3. Liga, 1. FC Magdeburg won both league games against the Kickers by nil. Now, too, the Blue-Whites’ home win against Würzburg Kickers seems to be the only alternative.

After all, in this match the best defence in the 3rd division (only six goals conceded) receives the second weakest offence (only three FWK goals in eight games). No wonder, then, that the FCM also plays a supporting role in the 3. Liga Meister 2022 forecast.

Germany Magdeburg – Statistics & current form

The 1. FC Magdeburg is one of the great figureheads of East German football. In 1974, the club from Saxony-Anhalt was the only football club in the GDR to win a European Cup – the European Cup Winners’ Cup. In addition, the club won three GDR championships.

With reunification, however, the Blue and Whites said goodbye to professional football. Between 1991 and 2015, the FCM could only be found in the amateur leagues, before they were promoted to the 3rd league in 2015 and even to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2018.

19 points out of a possible 24 from the first eight games

After just one year in the second division, Magdeburg are now back in the 3rd division for the third year in a row, where the restructuring owed to the direct relegation initially had to be absorbed for two seasons in a row. In the meantime, however, the transitional period is demonstrably over and the men from Saxony-Anhalt are once again a promotion contender.

In the run-up to the season, the FCM were already considered co-favourites after top transfers from higher divisions (for example, Magdeburg secured the services of Schalke’s Luca Schuler, who has already scored five goals). After 19 of 24 possible points from the first eight games, this assessment was impressively confirmed.

Ten players are not available

Christian Titz’s footballers are accordingly favoured going into the ninth matchday, when FWK, a relegated team, visits the MDCC-Arena, a team that has yet to undergo the upheaval Magdeburg experienced two years ago after its own relegation. Therefore, a very promising bet for Magdeburg against Würzburger Kickers is a home win for the Blue-Whites, who, however, have personnel problems.

As many as ten players are missing this weekend, which means that the team is practically setting itself up. Judging by the momentum, the already six wins and, above all, the only six goals conceded from eight games, the available squad should also be able to clinch the home win.

Predicted line-up of Magdeburg:
Reimann – Kath – Sechelmann – Bittroff – Knost – Obermair – A. Müller – Condé – Atik – Ceka – Schuler

Germany Würzburger Kickers – Statistics & current form

The football club Würzburger Kickers celebrated promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in both 2016 and 2020, but failed to stay in the second division on both occasions. After the first direct relegation under Michael Schiele, the Lower Franconians immediately remained a top team again and played three seasons in a row for re-promotion, but this time things are somewhat different.

After the immense wear and tear on the coaching staff in the previous season, hardly any of the key players remained with the Reds, who had to cope with a total of 21 departures.

The second weakest attack in the 3. league

Under Torsten Ziegner, the rebuilding process has not yet really taken off. After eight league games, the FWK is still waiting for its first win of the young season and could not even beat Havelse at home (final score: 0:0).

Especially offensively, not much is going right for the Reds, who have only scored three goals in eight league games and thus have the second-weakest attack in the 3rd division. Consequently, the relegated team currently occupies a relegation place and must fear free fall.

On average, only one goal conceded per league match

At least the very stable defence, which has only conceded eight goals in eight games – and thus only one goal per game on average – is encouraging. However, if you don’t score any goals up front, even though Marvin Pourié, the top scorer in the 3rd Division in 2019, is under contract with Unterfranken, then you can’t win any games.

Predicted line-up of Würzburger Kickers:
Bonmann – Herrmann – Kraulich – Dietz – Schneider – Pepic – Hoffmann – Meisel – Kopacz – Sané – Pourié

Magdeburg – Würzburger Kickers Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Head to head: 3 – 1 – 2

There have been six meetings between the two teams so far and Magdeburg lead the direct comparison with three wins. Most recently, there were two duels in league play in the 2019/20 season, both of which went to the FCM with a total of 4:0 goals.

Germany Magdeburg – Würzburger Kickers Germany Tipp

Our prediction for Magdeburg against Würzburger Kickers is largely influenced by the momentum of both teams. The Blue and Whites lead the table with 19 out of a possible 24 points and also have the best defence in the entire 3rd division On the other hand, the visitors from Lower Franconia are still winless after eight games, occupy a relegation spot and have only scored three goals offensively

Betting on the FWK to score the away goal against defensively very stable hosts is already very promising. However, we see even more value in betting directly on a home win for the Blue and Whites, who go into this home game with a lot of tailwind.
