Can Bayern Munich pull off the upset?
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the second leg of the Women’s Champions League between Olympique Lyon and FC Bayern Munich will take place. After the first leg, which the French team won comfortably 2-0, the Munich team face an almost impossible task and are thus on the verge of elimination. This is also reflected in the Lyon vs. Bayern women odds of the German betting providers, because for a home win we only get maximum odds of 1.29. Are the guests really without a chance in the second meeting as well?
We now want to answer this question in our Lyon vs. Bayern Women’s prediction, starting with the home and away records of the two teams. It quickly becomes clear why the betting odds are so clearly distributed, because OL has not lost a single point in its own stadium and has won all 11 home games this season. Munich’s away record cannot keep up with that, but Alexander Straus’ team has only lost 10 points in 14 away games and is therefore anything but weak away from home.
In the comparison of form, OL is also ahead, because so far this season, Joe Montemurro’s team is still unbeaten and only lost a game in extra time against Stade Reims. However, the guests have also only lost three competitive games and are therefore similarly in good form. After the defeat in the first leg against the French team, however, we would advise against an away win for Lyon against Bayern. Providers such as Bet365 offer odds between 8.00 and 9.00 for a win by the away team, and not without reason.
Lyon – statistics & current form
Lyon have had an incredible season so far and have yet to lose a competitive game in regulation time. However, Joe Montemurro’s team have already suffered a minor setback in the Coupe de France, losing out to Stade Reims (a.e.t.) in the last 32. In the other competitions, however, things went all the better. In the French top flight, the hosts are in first place and already have ten points more than Paris Saint-Germain. In addition, the French women are one leg away from the semi-finals in the Champions League and are even among the favorites for the title.
Lyon is unbeatable and Lyon is unstoppable.
With 103 goals in 26 competitive games (Ø 3.96) across all competitions, Olympique has one of the best offenses in the world. It is therefore no wonder that Joe Montemurro’s team has only gone two games without scoring this season, putting the ball in the opponent’s net in 92% of games. At home, the rate is even better at 100% – an incredibly good result. Three players stand out in particular: Melchie Dumornay, Kadidiatou Diani and Lindsey Horan. The three attackers have already scored 67 points this season and are almost unstoppable for 90 minutes.
Lyon are very difficult to beat
However, it is not only offensively, but also defensively outstanding, because with only six goals conceded (Ø 0.23) in 26 games, the hosts are at an absolute top level. That is why Joe Montemurro’s team have kept a clean sheet 21 times already, conceding in just 19% of competitive matches. In their own stadium, however, the rate is slightly worse at 27%. Is this perhaps the straw that Munich must cling to before the second leg?
Line-up:
Endler – Carpenter, Gilles, Renard, Bacha – Heaps, Wienke, Marozsan – Chawinga, Dumornay, Diani
Bayern Munich – Statistics & current form
Bayern Munich can be absolutely satisfied with the season so far. Alexander Straus’ team leads the Bundesliga and is also in the cup final. At the national level, FCB seems to be the ultimate this year as well. However, this is not the case internationally, because after the 0-2 first-leg defeat, Munich are as good as out of the Champions League. But that’s not really surprising, because their opponents, Lyon or teams like FC Barcelona, are simply on a different level to Bayern. The guests will therefore need to perform at their best in the second leg to avert this fate.
Bayern can cause problems offensively
With 71 goals in 28 games (Ø 2.54), Bayern Munich’s offense is not nearly as dangerous as Lyon’s, but it should not be underestimated either. Alexander Straus’ team has only failed to score twice, finding the back of the net in 93% of competitive matches. It also didn’t matter whether the Munich team were playing at home or away. Two players are particularly in focus, and they are Pernille Harder and Klara Bühl. The two attackers have already scored 43 goals this season and are therefore also key players.
Bayern can’t keep up defensively
Defensively, however, the difference between the two teams is even more pronounced, with Munich conceding significantly more goals than Lyon, with 22 in 28 games (Ø 0.79). In addition, Alexander Straus’ team “only” kept a clean sheet 15 times, thus conceding a goal in 46% of the competitive matches. Away from home, the rate is 50% and is thus slightly worse. Especially against OL, who have one of the best offensive lines in the world, we therefore consider a clean sheet to be very unrealistic. The guests’ offense is thus particularly challenged.
Lineup:
Grohs – Gwinn, Sembrant, Eriksson, Hansen – Zadrazil, Caruso, Dallmann, Harder, Bühl – Schüller
Lyon – Bayern Women Direct comparison / H2H record
In the team analysis alone, the hosts seem to have the better chances of winning, but what about the direct comparison? In the H2H comparison, the Munich women are also at a disadvantage, winning only one of four meetings. The only victory so far was celebrated by FCB in 2021 and thus four years ago. This will also be one of the reasons why the Lyon v Bayern women betting odds are clearly against the away team winning.
Lyon – Bayern Women Tip
We recommend the Lyon v Bayern women betting tip on at least one goal from both teams. The French women have won all of their eleven home games so far and have one of the best offenses in the world. What’s more, Joe Montemurro’s team already proved in the first leg how dangerous they can be, creating six big chances. On the other hand, the Munich team have to take full risks and have the necessary quality to pose a threat to OL. Alexander Straus’s team will not give in without a fight.
Alternatively, you can put the Lyon vs. Bayern Women Odds for a goal by the French team in both halves on the slip. OL earned six big chances in the first leg, and for good reason, and will therefore also have one or two good opportunities in their own stadium. With the two goals against, FCB was even well served, so that in the worst-case scenario there could be even more goals conceded. We therefore consider our recommendation to be very promising.
