Saving energy LFC win on Thursday?
In the English Premier League, the 17th matchday kicks off a tough final spurt during the week. Liverpool FC, for example, will play five must-win games before the end of this calendar year! Four of them in the league, one in the League Cup. The issue of load management is therefore one of the highest priority for coach Jürgen Klopp and every one of his colleagues.
The enormous exertion of the last few weeks may also have led to the Reds having more problems in their games than expected. Next Thursday, on the other hand, it would be very surprising if the 2020 champions did not land a commanding home victory. The Magpies are the guests at Anfield. Ahead of the Liverpool v Newcastle game, the odds leave no questions as to who the bookies see as clear favourites.
The three-way market is even offering odds of 1.20 on the home treble, which makes the starting position even clearer. Newcastle, bottom of the table, are still looking for their first win away from home, while the home side go into this clash with a record of five league wins in a row. The betting between Liverpool and Newcastle on a commanding victory by the favourites therefore seems to have no alternative. The most promising value, however, has to be sought elsewhere.
Liverpool – Statistics & current form
Liverpool Football Club is in a very strong form at the moment. Coach Jürgen Klopp’s side have won all of their last seven competitive matches after the international break in early/mid-November. Four of these victories came by at least a two-goal difference. On average, there was even a 2.42 goal difference per three-goal win.
A certain dominance can definitely be deduced from this, especially as LFC’s offensive is the measure of all things in the English top flight, having already scored 45 goals. But the defence has also been convincing recently, so that at Wolverhampton and at home against Aston Villa, one goal of their own was enough to snatch the full points.
Third clean sheet in the PL in a row?
There have also been four clean sheets during the winning streak, which is why we should also keep an eye on the forecast for a home win between Liverpool and Newcastle. This is also supported by the statistics of the season so far, as keeper Alisson has kept his clean sheet in ten of 16 Premier League games in 2021/22. Compared to the previous season, when the defences were extremely unstable, van Dijk and Co. currently leave a very compact impression.
With regard to the upcoming tasks, coach Klopp will not push for unconditional forward play in case of an early goal. It’s all about conserving energy and, above all, not letting anything go wrong at the back. The “to-nil” tip is therefore more interesting in our eyes than the handicap (-2) or the bet on HT1/FT1.
The youngster trio Phillips, Elliot and Jones are still unavailable due to injury. There is also a bigger question mark behind the long-suffering Firmino. As mentioned, changes due to rotation cannot be ruled out. However, the relaxed personnel situation does not change the fact that LFC want to (and will) win their 2,000th game in England’s top division.

Newcastle – Statistics & current form
Visions they have a few at Newcastle since the new investor takeover. The present at the Magpies, however, could put the rejoicing future to a hard test. The white and black team is currently fighting to stay in the Premier League. As the second-last team in the standings, they are three points behind the bottom of the table. Relegation would be the absolute Super-GAU, although it can be assumed that coach Eddie Howe will be able to go shopping in the winter without regard to financial limits.
Until then, however, Newcastle will remain a welcome guest in English first division stadiums. Newcastle have not won any of their eight away games this season. Three draws are compared to five defeats. Only five goals scored in relation to 17 conceded underline the weakness of Howe’s side, who also suffered a 4-0 defeat at Leicester at the weekend.
Newcastle remain hot relegation candidates
In view of this disastrous record, it would be a big surprise if a forecast for a coup by the visitors should pay off in the clash between Liverpool and Newcastle on Thursday evening. Although there was a small upward trend in performance under Howe up to the weekend, the harmless offensive remains. Just two goals have been scored in the last four games.
To make matters worse, the Magpies have now gone 25 trips to Anfield Road without a win. 20 of those 25 matches have been lost. The record in midweek games also reads disastrously from the underdog’s point of view. Eight of the last 14 matches that kicked off on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays were lost. To make matters worse, Coach Howe must continue to do without Dummett. At least the relegation candidate’s personnel situation is otherwise pretty rosy.
Predicted line-up of Newcastle:
Dubravka; Manquillo, Schar, Clark, Lascelles, Lewis; Saint-Maximin, Hayden, Shelvey, Joelinton; Wilson

Liverpool – Newcastle Direct Comparison / H2H Record
We have already written about the Magpies’ disastrous record at Anfield. The last victory in the Liverpool football temple dates back to 1994 and is therefore so long ago that the majority of the players who will be on the pitch on Thursday were not even born then. Once upon a time, however, Liverpool lost their first Premier League match against Newcastle. Since then, nine comparisons have been added in which the Reds have not lost out once. The direct comparison therefore confirms the odds on offer between Liverpool and Newcastle.
Liverpool – Newcastle Tip
Liverpool and Newcastle face each other on Thursday evening to conclude the week’s fixtures in the Premier League. The betting odds are clearly in favour of the hosts, which is not really surprising given their position in the table. After all, the second-placed team will meet the penultimate.
Apart from that, there are also various other reasons that point towards a commanding home victory. For example, the Reds are in excellent form, having recently celebrated seven wins in a row and not conceding a goal on four occasions. In general, ten clean sheets after 16 matchdays is an impressive haul.
Because the Magpies also have their problems offensively, scoring only five times away from home and generally still waiting for their first away treble, we have decided to bet on the home side to win “to-nil” between Liverpool and Newcastle.
Alternative bets are on a handicap win for the favourites, who have not lost any of their last 25 Premier League home games against Newcastle and have recently gone unbeaten in nine head-to-head meetings. A sensation is not to be believed in on Thursday evening.
