The season progression of Lille OSC and VFL Wolfsburg could hardly have been more different. The tip on the French is rated with odds on average around 2.60 and for an away win of the guests betting odds wave around 2.75. Last Friday, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team competed in the domestic league at FC Lorient and were unable to cash in on their first win of the season a day earlier. After only seven minutes, the home team led through Lauriente with 1:0. Even before the break, the visitors were able to equalise 1-1 with a converted penalty by B. Yilmaz (25th). After changing sides, no goals were scored for a long time. When everything looked like a split in points, the French champion had to surrender once again. The winning goal for Lorient fell shortly before the final whistle (87th, Moffi). Lille is thus still stuck in the dreary mid-table of Ligue 1.
The Gourvennec team celebrated the first three of the season on the penultimate day of the match against Montpellier. The game against Montpellier was only the second home game of the season. The first match of the season was played in front of the home scenery and the visitors from Nice were awarded 4-0. The reigning champion has already conceded 11 goals, making him the weakest defender in France.
The five-time champion last played in the Champions League two years ago and had to retire without a win after the group phase. In the home game against Valencia FC, the only points won were scored (1:1). There was nothing to be gained against Chelsea London and Ajax Amsterdam after the first leg and the second leg.
Renato Sanches, Jonathan Bamba and Timothy Weah are out of action against Wolfsburg on Tuesday due to injury.

The wolves did justice to their favourite role at the weekend with Greuther Fürth and won 2-0 at the Ronhof. The VFL was stable in the back and ice-cold in the front. The early 1-0 lead by Nmecha in the 10th minute naturally played into the visitors’ hands. The team of Mark van Bommel did not burn anything in the back. The climber bit his teeth at the defense. With 73% possession of the ball, the Lower Saxons had everything under control. After the side change, the home team became more courageous, but did not record more than half chances. When Wolfsburg pulled the reins it became dangerous again – Nmecha missed 2-0 twice (52nd, 61st). In the further course of the game, the clover repeatedly tried their luck in the offensive, but the defense of the VFL was bombproof. The decision was then made in the extra time – Weghorst turned a penalty into a 2-0 score for the visitors (90th +1). The VFL Wolfsburg is the leader of the Bundesliga with the full 12 points after four days of play.
The van Bommel-Elf has won all four games of the season and scored more and more goals away from home. Hertha BSC (2:1) and Fürth (2:0) scored two goals each. In the home appearances, VFL Bochum and RB Leipzig were each beaten 1-0. With just one goal conceded, the Lower Saxony have the best defence in the league.
The German champion of 2009 had a five-year break in the premier class. However, the CL season 15/16 was impressive. All three home games against Manchester United, CSKA Moscow and PSV Eindhoven were won. In foreign countries, however, the wolves were heavier and lost in England and Holland. Only in the Russian capital there were three counters in Moscow. In the quarter-finals, the Belgian representative KAA Gent was eliminated, before Wolfsburg then narrowly lost to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. After winning the first leg at home with 2-0 against the royalty, the VFL lost 0-3 to Santiago Bernabeu and was eliminated.
Paulo Otavio, Xaver Schlager and Bartosz Bialek are still injured and will not travel to Lille.

The first Champions League match between Lille OSC and VFL Wolfsburg in Group G is not a favourite. Both teams are roughly equally strong on paper, with the home advantage speaking for the French. The start of the season with only one win from five games in Ligue 1 was more than bad for the reigning champions.
On the other hand, the situation in Lower Saxony is completely the opposite with four victories from four league games. In any case, the van Bommel-Elf will travel to France with broad shoulders and do the math. Lille celebrated his last victory in the premier class 9 years ago with a 2-0 victory over BATE Borisov. But even then, after the preliminary round for the French, everything was over. We guess a tight duel in the Stade Pierre Mauroy without a winner with no or few goals on both sides.
For this Champions League tip we recommend the Under 2.5 Goals betting. The sports betting tip is crowned with success if no more than two goals are scored in the course of the game. The odds offered for this by Bookie are in the top of the 1.90.
