Can Leeds extend their winning streak?
Can Leeds extend their winning streak to three in a row next Saturday? Statistically at least, it might be difficult, after all, they haven’t managed two home wins in a row against their upcoming opponents in the last 40 years and they won their last home game against Newcastle…
With Newcastle United having lost six of their nine away games so far, with only six of their own goals scored away from home, Leeds v Newcastle is a prediction that can be made, even though Leeds United are certainly not having an outstanding season.
After all, Leeds managed a real exclamation mark last weekend when they surprisingly defeated the Hammers from London in their own stadium – only the second away win of the current season. It remains to be seen whether, and above all how quickly, prominent winter additions Chris Wood (Burnley) and Kieran Trippier can already be a factor in the game of the upcoming opponents Newcastle United to give the defence the much-needed stability and to provide more scoring danger in the offensive.
Leeds – Statistics & current form
Only once in their last five home games have Leeds United left the pitch as losers. Two of their only three home wins this season have also come in their last five games. The last two games against West Ham United and Burnley were also won, whereby especially the away win in London against the strong Hammers falls into the category of surprise. So Leeds seem to be on a good way to bring the season to a conciliatory end after all
Weaknesses in the defensive line
Only in two out of ten home games Leeds United could keep the zero, in away games this record is even worse; here the zero could be kept only once in ten games. The bookmakers expect both teams to meet again next Saturday, which translates into low odds on the B2S for Leeds against Newcastle (around 1.60). We also expect this tip to come true again; Leeds United have been too vulnerable defensively in recent weeks. The victories are therefore mainly due to the strengths of the attack around Patrick Bamford.
His participation on Saturday, as well as that of his teammates Forshaw and Firpo, is still questionable due to injuries. The injured Shackleton, Philipps, Cresswell, Roberts, Gelhardt and Cooper will definitely be missing.
Predicted Leeds line-up:
Meslier, Firpo, Struijk, Ayling, Dallas, Cook, Harrison, Rodrigo, Klich, Raphael, Bamford

Newcastle – Statistics & current form
Newcastle United, newly rich following their takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund consortium, have splashed the cash in the winter transfer window to avoid the threat of relegation to the Championship after all. The result was the transfer of Chris Wood from relegation rivals Burnley for the attack and Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for the defence. Despite all the money available, no real top stars were signed, and the Premier League relegation battle seems to have a deterrent effect here.
Turnaround in the second half of the season?
After all, the two new winter arrivals are very experienced players who will certainly increase the quality within the team. Newcastle United urgently need points to get out of the bottom of the table. So far this season, they have not even managed to win away from home, losing six of nine away games and drawing three. The last three away games in a row were also all lost. The six goals scored don’t sound like much at first, but you have to put it into perspective that Newcastle have been able to score at least one goal away from home fairly consistently, in six of their nine away games. In our prediction for the match Leeds vs. Newcastle, we also assume that Newcastle will score in Leeds, not least because of the defensive problems of the opponent.
However, we are not convinced of a win either, between Leeds and Newcastle the bet on the away win does not seem to work out. The hosts have been too strong in recent weeks and Newcastle United too weak, especially in the away games. Newcastle United’s list of absentees is relatively manageable. Only Hayden, Wilson and Fernandez have to miss out, Clark is still questionable.
Predicted Newcastle line-up:
Dubravka, Trippier, Lascelles, Schär, Dummett, Longstaff, Shelvey, Joelinton, Fraser, Saint-Maximin, Wood

Leeds – Newcastle Tip
Due to the home team’s strong offence and a very likely goal win for the away team, Leeds vs Newcastle is also a good bet for over 2.5 goals.
The odds on Leeds vs Newcastle are swinging in the direction of the home team. We are betting that Leeds United will at least not lose this game and that both teams will score at least one goal. We are betting five units for this one.
