Will Marseille find their way back to success in the Europa League?
Lazio Roma host Marseille on matchday three in Group E of the Europa League. The timing of the encounter could have been better for the Italians, as OM have been able to call on Dimitri Payet again since last weekend and his return immediately ended the crisis in their domestic Ligue 1 with an emphatic win over Lorient.
The home side, however, are also in good shape. In Serie A, the champions from Milan were beaten 3:1 and the previous defeat against Bologna was apparently nothing more than a slip-up.
For the match at the Olympic Stadium in the capital between Lazio Roma and Marseille, the tip aims for a goal celebration on both sides.
Lazio Roma – Statistics & current form
Lazio started the current edition of the Europa League with a defeat at Galatasaray. An unnecessary defeat, because Rome was the better team and the goal in the 0:1 at the Bosporus was an own goal. However, the defeat was subsequently made up for with a commanding 2-0 win against Lokomotive Moscow.
Last weekend also went well, as described above, with a win against Inter Milan. For the champions, it was their first defeat of the season and Lazio, for their part, scored their fourth win in their eighth league match. In fifth place, their Serie A season opener has been solid.
Lazio convincing in attack
The attack is currently very strong: Only the defeated champions and league leaders from Napoli score more often in Serie A than the two-time champions of the country. The most important factor in this context is once again Ciro Immobile. The striker also scored against Inter and already has seven goals for the season – the best in the Italian top flight.
The Brazilian Felipe Anderson is also gaining momentum: The 28-year-old came from West Ham before the season, but last played for Porto. He has already scored three times for his new employers and is the second-best scorer after Immobile and, together with Serbian Sergej Milinković-Savić, the 1999 European Cup Winners’ Cup winners.
Furthermore, he is no stranger to Rome, as Anderson was already under contract in the “Eternal City” between 2013 and 2018. A successful period: in four of the five seasons then, the former Selecao international delivered a double-digit scoring output!
Rome relies on home bonus
Coach Maurizio Sarri can also rely on home advantage: No team in Serie A has scored more goals on home soil and none of the four home games have been lost. However, the defence has room for improvement: A clean sheet was missed in all eight league games!
Predicted Lazio Roma line-up:
Reina – Luiz Felipe – Acerbi – Lazzari – Hisaj – Alberto – Lucas Leiva – Milinkovic-Savic – Anderson – Pedro – Immobile

Marseille – Statistics & current form
Even though Dimitri Payet did not score in last Sunday night’s match against Lorient, the former Equipe Tricolore international was still the Man of the Match with three assists. After his injury, the 34-year-old is now available again and this is of great importance for the attacking play of the South French.
In addition to his four assists, Payet now has five goals in Ligue 1. A great record, especially considering that he has only played six league games! In view of this, the odds on his next goal celebration in the match between Lazio Roma and Marseille are additionally equipped with value.
Milik is back on top
From Marseille’s point of view, the performance of Arkadiusz Milik was equally pleasing in the dress rehearsal. The striker has also been injured in recent weeks and played from the start for the first time this season against Lorient. On his starting debut, the Pole struck immediately and proved that he has not forgotten how to score.
With the visitors back in form, the odds on the double chance in favour of the French side in the clash between Lazio Roma and Marseille are also of interest.
Predicted Marseille line-up:
Lopez – Lalerdi – Saliba – Caleta-Car – peres – Gerson – Guendouzi – Lirola – Rongier – Payet – Milik

Lazio Roma – Marseille Direct comparison / H2H record
The last time Rome and Olympique faced each other in the Europa League was around three years ago. At that time, the Italians prevailed in both comparisons. In total, the pairing has gone up six times and the French have only managed one win (1-1-4). The odds also point to a home win for the upcoming edition of Lazio Roma vs Marseille.
Lazio Roma – Marseille Tip
Marseille have been in a crisis in Ligue 1 in recent weeks and the two draws against Lok Moscow and Galatasaray in the Europa League so far have also only been a limited success. Now, however, things should be better again.
With the return of the attacking mastermind Payet and Milik in the forwards, OM is better positioned in the forward play. The forecast for the clash between Lazio Roma and Marseille therefore includes goals on both sides. The shaky defence of the Romans, who have conceded at least one goal in eight league games so far, also speaks in favour of a goal for the visitors.
On the other hand, the home side also have an efficient attacking line-up, which recently scored three goals against Serie A champions Inter Milan. With Ciro Immobile, the current top scorer in the domestic league is available and no team scores more goals in front of their own backdrop than Sarri’s team.
