Can Brazil still knock Jamaica out of second place?
On the third and final matchday of the group phase, the two teams from Jamaica and Brazil will meet in Group F. The roles seem to be clear in advance, because while the Brazilians are one of the favourites to win the title, it would be a big surprise if the Jamaicans were to progress. For this reason, the bookmakers’ betting odds between Jamaica and Brazil are clearly in favour of a victory for the Brazilian side.
Jamaica’s second appearance at the World Cup has been a resounding success so far. After going home without a single point in 2019, Lorne Donaldson’s Jamaican side have already collected four points at this tournament. With that, the Jamaican eleven has already celebrated a number of firsts and could now hit the big time. After their first point, their first win and their first clean sheet, they could now actually reach the knockout round for the first time.
Brazil is not only one of the great football nations in the men’s game, the women also regularly take part in the World Cup. In the eternal World Cup table, the Brazilian women are therefore also in fifth place and have already won silver. Therefore, an elimination in the group stage would be catastrophic. For this reason, the odds of the betting providers between Jamaica and Brazil are clearly in favour of a success for the Brazilian team.
We recommend the tip “Brazil wins both halves” between Jamaica and Brazil. Pia Sundhage’s team is simply on a completely different level in terms of quality and should therefore dominate the game from the start. Of course, the Jamaican defence is not easy to break down, but especially in such a decisive match, the Brazilian team’s offensive will deliver.
Jamaica – Statistics & current form
Jamaica picked up four points from their first two games and are thus in second place in Group F, which comes as a complete surprise. This would qualify the Jamaicans for the last 16 of the 2023 World Cup and could thus make history.
For that to happen, however, Lorne Donaldson’s team must earn at least a point against Brazil on the third and final matchday. A defeat against the Selecao would mean the end of the tournament for the Jamaican team. Nevertheless, this World Cup will be remembered positively.
Jamaica made history
The Jamaicans managed to earn a 0-0 draw against the clear favourites from France at the start of the World Cup, thus earning their first point at a World Cup. The fighting spirit and irrepressible will stood out in particular. On the second match day, Jamaica won 1-0 against Panama, their first victory at a World Cup and thus their next premiere. Once again, the defence stood out and was the key to their success.
Offensively rather harmless
Jamaica are limited in their play and therefore Lorne Donaldson’s team rarely create chances. In both games, the Jamaicans failed to create a single major chance and fired a total of only six shots on goal.
It is therefore no wonder that the only goal in the tournament came from a corner kick. The scorer of the golden 1:0 was captain Allyson Swaby. The central defender is under contract with Angel City FC and is one of the few players in one of the top leagues.
Defensive bulwark
Only five teams were able to keep a clean sheet in the first two matchdays of the group stage. These include the top teams such as England, Spain, Japan, Switzerland and Jamaica. The defence is clearly the strength of the Jamaicans and will also play a decisive role against Brazil. Therefore, we expect a very defensive style of play in the game against the Brazilians and thus one-way football.
Predicted Jamaica line-up:
Jamaica (Expected line-up) 4-1-2-3
Brazil – Statistics & current form
Brazil picked up just three points from their first two matches and are in third place in Group F as a result. This means that the Brazilians would not qualify for the knockout round and would have to go home. On the last matchday, it is all or nothing.
A win against the Jamaicans is therefore a must for Pia Sundhage’s team. Even a draw would see Jamaica through to the last 16, and the French are unlikely to lose to Panama. So there is a lot at stake.
Disappointing performance
After a commanding 4-0 win over Panama in the opening game, the euphoria was great. Brazil were in a class of their own and could have won by a much higher margin. In the match against France, however, the Brazilians were brought back down to earth and deservedly lost 2-1. The result was not the problem, but the performance on the pitch. Apart from a few pinpricks, Pia Sundhage’s team was inferior in all respects.
Built-in goal guarantee
The offensive is clearly the strength of the Brazilians and therefore must deliver against Jamaica. In the first two games, Brazil created eleven big chances and converted five of them. A goal against the Jamaicans is therefore almost a foregone conclusion.
The most striking player in Pia Sundhage’s ranks so far is Ary Borges. The midfielder scored a hat-trick against Panama and is thus also the top scorer at this World Cup. The 23-year-old Brazilian is currently under contract with Racing Louisville FC and earns her money in the USA.
Smaller lapses of concentration
Brazil hardly have any weak points, but small mistakes keep creeping in defensively. This is mainly due to the Brazilians’ style of play, who are known for playing very beautiful football. Due to the many dribbles, there are always unnecessary ball losses that lead to goal chances for the opponents. This was particularly evident in the game against France. In the duel with Panama, however, the back line stood up very well and did not allow anything to happen.
Predicted line-up of Brazil:
Brazil (Expected line-up) 4-4-2
Jamaica – Brazil Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
The direct comparison between the two teams goes to Brazil. The only clash between the two teams so far took place on the first matchday of the 2019 World Cup and went 3-0 to the Brazilians. Jamaica were well served, however, as the Selecao missed seven major chances in addition to the three goals. The difference in quality will therefore also be clear to see next Tuesday. Therefore, our prediction between Jamaica and Brazil clearly goes in the direction of the Brazilian selection.
Jamaica – Brazil Tip
We play between Jamaica and Brazil the tip on a victory of the Selecao in conjunction with “both teams score – no”. The Brazilians are clearly superior in all areas and should therefore create a large number of chances and allow very few scoring opportunities in return. The Jamaicans simply lack the quality of play and therefore we do not trust the underdogs to win a point. Lorne Donaldson’s team will collapse like a house of cards after conceding the first goal at the latest.
Alternatively, we recommend the odds for “Brazil scores in both halves” between Jamaica and Brazil. The Brazilians won the last meeting between the two teams by a clear 3-0 margin and were able to put the ball in the opponent’s goal in both periods of the match. At the latest after falling behind, the Jamaicans will increase the risk and thus open up spaces for their opponents
