Hungary with frustration overcoming against San Marino?
As in the previous eight World Cups, Hungary are unlikely to be represented at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Two matchdays before the end of the current qualification phase, the Magyars no longer have a realistic chance of finishing second. For that to happen, not only is shooting assistance necessary, but also a shooting festival by the Hungarians on the last two match days.
The international break starts for the Hungarian team this time with a home match against San Marino. As expected, the Magyars are the clear favourites against the dwarf state. After bitter setbacks during the last international break, including a surprising defeat against Albania, coach Marco Rossi’s team will be looking to overcome their frustrations against San Marino.
Hungary’s normal win over San Marino, meanwhile, offers odds of just 1.01. The last time the dwarf state visited Budapest, the home side scored an emphatic victory. The visitors scored a total of eight times in that game.
Until now, San Marino has only been a supplier of points in the current World Cup qualifying phase. “La Serenissima” even conceded an average of four goals per group game. It is quite possible that the negative trend will continue against the Magyars.
Hungary – Statistics & current form
Just a few months ago, Hungary were represented at the 2021 European Championship. In what was undoubtedly the most difficult group in the competition, the Magyars played a strong tournament, narrowly missing out on a place in the knockout stages on the final matchday. Since then, however, there has not been much to cheer about for the Hungarian national team.
In the last five international matches, Hungary has only won one match. That victory came in the compulsory match against Andorra. The narrow result (2:1) against the dwarf state was by no means satisfactory. On the other hand, the team of national coach Marco Rossi lost three of the last five international matches.
Two of the three defeats were against Albania. The defeat in the last international break was particularly serious, as the Magyars also lost home advantage. A small consolation, however, was the subsequent draw against the group favourites from England.
Is Rossi firing up the rotation machine?
Hungary still has a mathematical chance of finishing second in Group I. However, Poland, who are second in the group, will face dwarf Andorra during the international break, so it is unlikely that the Magyars will make a comeback. The preliminary decision will probably be made on Friday evening.
So far, Rossi’s team has a record of 3-2-3 in eight group matches, with all three victories coming against the dwarf states of Andorra and San Marino, so the points tally should not be overestimated. Against their upcoming opponents, Hungary celebrated a clear away victory in the first leg, scoring three goals.
At home, it is obvious that Hungary will now record another resounding victory against San Marino. For the time being, it remains uncertain whether Rossi will send his team into the group match against the dwarf state with its best line-up. On the 1X2 market, there is no alternative to predicting Hungary vs San Marino on the hosts.
Predicted line-up of Hungary:
Dibusz; Balogh, Szalai, Lang; Fiola, Nagy, Vecsei, Varga; Gazdag, Schön; Hahn
Last matches played by Hungary:

10/12 2021 – England 1 – 1 Hungary
10/09 2021 – Hungary 0 – 1 Albania
09/08 2021 – Hungary 2 – 1 Andorra
09/05 2021 – Albania 1 – 0 Hungary
09/02 2021 – Hungary 0 – 4 England
San Marino – Statistics & current form
San Marino, meanwhile, are the shooting gallery of the current 2022 World Cup qualifiers, with only Gibraltar conceding more goals than “La Serenissima” across the group so far. However, Gibraltar also scored two goals more than San Marino. In eight group matches, the dwarf state has scored only one goal so far.
As expected, the FIFA World No. 210 was only a points supplier in the current World Cup qualifiers. San Marino have lost eight of their eight group matches. Even against Andorra, the other midget state in Group I, San Marino lost in the first and second legs. It is therefore not at all surprising that “La Serenissima” is classified as a clear underdog with the Magyars.
Even the slightest point gained by the underdog is rewarded with attractive odds in Hungary vs San Marino. San Marino have lost five of their five international matches against Friday’s opponents. The underdogs have conceded a total of eight goals.
Will San Marino be overrun by the Magyars?
In the current squad, San Marino are looking for stars in vain. In any case, there are only four legionnaires in total. All four players are currently under contract with Italian clubs. Among them is Nicola Nanni of Lucchese 1905, who with one goal in 22 appearances is one of San Marino’s most prolific scorers.
With “La Serenissima’s” modest attack, even a goal on Friday evening would be a big surprise. In the last three years, San Marino have scored only three goals in a total of 29 international matches. However, bettors who would still like to venture a prediction on the underdog scoring a goal in Hungary vs San Marino can pick up attractive odds in the event of success.
Predicted line-up for San Marino:
Benedettini; Battistini, Fabbri, Rossi, Grandoni; Zafferani, Golinucci, Golinucci, Censoni, Tomassini; Nanni
Last matches played by San Marino:

09/08 2021 – Albania 5 – 0 San Marino

Hungary – San Marino Direct comparison / H2H balance
The two nations have met five times so far. San Marino have not only lost five times to the Magyars, but have also conceded 22 goals. In the first round of the current 2022 World Cup qualifiers, the outsiders lost 3-0 at home to Hungary, while their highest defeat came in their last away match in Budapest almost eleven years ago. On that occasion, the Magyars won 8:0 against the midget state.
Hungary – San Marino tip
Hungary’s chances of finishing second are minimal. After all, the Magyars not only need two thumping victories on the last two matchdays of the current 2022 World Cup qualifiers, but are also dependent on shooting assistance. In order to do their own homework for the time being, the favourites must celebrate a big win against their upcoming opponents.
In the first leg, the Hungarian national team already beat San Marino 3-0. This was the fifth win for the Magyars in their fifth international match against the dwarf state, in which Hungary also kept its clean slate. For the first time since October 2010, Hungary will now play a home match against San Marino.
The last time “La Serenissima” visited the Magyars, Hungary won by a clear margin (8:0). It’s quite possible that the Hungarian national team will knock the underdogs out of their own stadium this time as well.
With a stake of seven units, we dare to bet on Hungary vs. San Marino with good odds on more than 1.5 goals in the first half. San Marino have been behind at half-time in all four of their away matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers so far. In three of the four games, they conceded two goals before the end of the second half.
