Where does the old lady stand under Korkut?
Four points out of a possible nine for Hertha BSC under Dárdái’s successor Tayfun Korkut. After the 2-0 home win against Arminia Bielefeld broke the deadlock after five winless league games in a row, the old lady once again failed to score in the 4-0 defeat in Mainz during the week. The big question ahead of the home match against the current second-placed team in the league is where exactly Hertha currently stand.
The black-and-yellows are in good form and last week they won 3-0 against bottom side Greuther Fürth, despite a sometimes ponderous game. In the run-up to the match between Hertha and Dortmund, the odds are also now swinging in Borussia’s favour.
However, the capital club does have a certain home strength to throw into the balance. Although the Berliners have won “only” three of their seven league home games, they have only conceded seven goals at home in the Olympiastadion. The old lady thus has the fourth-best home defence in the Bundesliga.
Nevertheless, we think it makes the most sense to bet on an early goal (before 25:00 minutes) in Hertha’s match against Dortmund.
Hertha – Statistics & current form
Hertha BSC have now been firmly established in the Bundesliga since the 1997/98 season, although the capital side also endured a one-year interlude in the 2. Bundesliga in both 2010/11 and 2012/13.
After finishing sixth in the 2016/17 season, the course was supposed to be set for European football to become the rule rather than the exception in Berlin in the future. All the big investments of the last few years, however, did not really get the old lady off the ground.
Home defeat threatens fall to relegation spot
Once again, there is a gap between ambition and reality in the German capital.
The Berliners, who would so much like to strive towards the Champions League, have after all already lost eight of their first 16 league games. Only bottom-placed Greuther Fürth has more defeats to its name.
Should they even lose at home to BVB and should Augsburg score at Fürth and Stuttgart at Cologne, which is certainly not unrealistic, Tayfun Korkut’s men could even end the first half of the season in the relegation places.
The second weakest defence in the Bundesliga
After picking up four points from the first two games under the new coach, the capital city side once again presented themselves in an appalling state on Tuesday evening in Mainz. With the four goals conceded, the old lady has already conceded a total of 33 goals and is the second weakest defensive team in the Bundesliga.
It is hard to imagine that the Black and Yellows’ powerful attack can be withstood in this condition. Accordingly, the capitals are left with only the underdog role.

Dortmund – Statistics & current form
Borussia Dortmund’s tally of eleven wins among the 16 league games they have played so far is quite respectable. The black-and-yellows, who only finished third this summer, are at least back on course for the runners-up spot and are already six points ahead of third place.
However, they are also six points behind leaders Bayern Munich, against whom they suffered a painful 3-2 home defeat in league play a fortnight ago. It will therefore be difficult for Borussia to reach for the stars once again.
Haaland already with 19 goals in 15 competitive matches
Adding to that, BVB have also had bitter evenings in the Champions League of late, losing 3-1 away to Sporting Lisbon with no chance of reaching the last 16 after just five matchdays.
The black and yellow team will continue in the Europa League in February. But all those involved had certainly hoped for more at international level, especially as it is clear that life insurance Erling Haaland, who has already scored 19 goals in 15 competitive games in the 2021/22 season, is unlikely to be kept on for too much longer.
Always scored in the last twelve competitive games
However, Borussia are travelling with a lot of tailwind. Although they did not manage more than a 1-1 draw with in-form Bochum at the weekend, they were able to record an unchallenged 3-0 victory over Greuther Fürth during the week, even with a mixed performance.
There is therefore a lot to be said for tip 2 for Hertha against Dortmund, especially since BVB, with its brilliant attacking department, should have no difficulty in leveraging the Berlin defence sooner or later. In the last twelve matches, the black and yellow team has always scored a goal without exception.
Predicted Dortmund line-up:

Hertha – Dortmund Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
Head to head: 19 – 18 – 38
There have been a total of 75 meetings between the two teams and with 38 victories, the majority of all games have gone to the black and yellows, who also recorded a brilliant 5:2 victory in the last away game at the Olympiastadion. Dortmund have thus won all of their last five games against Hertha.
Hertha – Dortmund Tip
For Hertha against Dortmund, the prediction must take into account that the interim momentum of the coaching change at the old lady has completely disappeared in the 0:4 in Mainz during the week. The Berliners were as vulnerable as ever and showed defensive deficiencies that Borussia should be able to punish mercilessly.
There is a lot to be said for an away win for the black-and-yellows, who have also won all of their last three matches at Hertha. However, we find even more value in betting on an early goal, which also covers other conceivable eventualities for the outcome of the match.
For a goal before 25:00 minutes, betting odds of 1.83 are available for Hertha against Dortmund.
