Who will advance to the 4th round of the CL qualifiers?
On Tuesday, 13.08.2024, Glasgow Rangers will face Dynamo Kiev in the second leg of the Champions League 3rd qualifying round. The home side seem to be slightly favored in advance, because while we are offered maximum odds of up to 3.80 for an away win, the best odds for a home win are only 1.95. So if we only look at the Glasgow Rangers vs Dynamo Kiev odds, this game will probably go to the Scots.
The betting providers’ assessments of the Glasgow Rangers vs Dynamo Kiev betting tip are by no means decisive for victory or defeat. This is also shown by the course of the game from the first leg, as the Ukrainians even led 1-0 until the 94th minute and only squandered the three-pointer in the very last second. It would therefore not be particularly advisable to underestimate the Ukrainian team here. We therefore believe that the betting odds should be a little closer between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Kiev
In the squad analysis of the two teams, one player stands out in particular and that is Cyriel Dessers. The attacker has been playing in Scotland since the summer of 2023 and has scored 24 goals in 57 games since then. The striker has been in particularly good form recently, scoring in three of the last four games. He was also responsible for the 1-1 equalizer in the first leg. We therefore recommend predicting a goal from the Nigerian between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Kiev.
The match kicks off at 20:45 on Tuesday at Hampden Park in Glasgow. The match can only be watched via live stream at Bet365 or other betting providers.
Glasgow Rangers – Statistics & current form
Rangers secured the runners-up spot last season with aplomb, finishing with 17 points more than their closest rivals. Nevertheless, Philippe Clement’s team were certainly a little disappointed, as Celtic and their great rivals were clearly ahead in the battle for the title. Nevertheless, the hosts were rewarded with a place in the Champions League qualifiers and therefore have a chance of reaching the top flight.
Glasgow kicked off the new season on 03/08/2024 with an away game at Heart of Midlothian. However, the performance against last year’s third-placed team was not really convincing, as Clement’s team squandered two important points with a 0-0 draw right at the start of the season. The Scots then also failed to draw against Kiev. Last weekend, Rangers were finally able to celebrate their first win of the season
Successful loan deal
Vaclav Cerny moved to Glasgow on loan from VfL Wolfsburg this summer, leaving Germany after just one season. His time in the 1st Bundesliga was not exactly successful, with just six goals in 25 games. However, with two goals in his first three games, the Czech has hit the ground running at Rangers and seems to feel right at home. So far, the Rangers management have shown a golden touch.
With three goals in three games (Ø 1.00), the home side’s offense is still far from its best form. Last season, Philippe Clement’s team scored 121 goals in 58 games and found the back of the net an average of 2.09 times. The reason for the meagre goal tally is easy to find, as Rangers were only able to convert three of their nine major chances, or 33%. There is still plenty of room for improvement here
Good defensive work
While the hosts’ attacking line is still in a bit of a summer slump, their defense seems to be up to speed. The home side conceded just two goals in their first three games (Ø 0.67) and even scored one of them themselves. The Scots also conceded very little. However, the Rangers’ backline had problems here and there, especially against Kiev’s good offense. We would therefore not necessarily predict a clean sheet for the Scots.
Predicted line-up of Glasgow Rangers:
Butland – Tavernier, Souttar, Balogun, Yilmaz – Wright, Diomande, Barron, McCausland – Lawrence, Dessers
Dynamo Kiev – Statistics & current form
Dynamo Kiev also finished runners-up last season, narrowly missing out on the title. In the end, their great rivals Shakhtar Donetsk had just two points more to their name and secured the title primarily thanks to their two wins in the head-to-head tie. Nevertheless, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s team were able to secure their place in the CL qualifiers and thus keep their chances of reaching the top flight alive.
For the Ukrainian representative, however, the journey began in the 2nd qualifying round, as Ukraine is ranked behind Scotland in the UEFA rankings. There, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s team faced Partizan Belgrade, the Serbian runners-up. However, this draw did not appear to be problematic for Dynamo, as Kiev won more than just confidently with a total score of 9:2. The Ukrainians were therefore also favored in the first leg against Glasgow due to their superiority
The playmaker
Mykola Shaparenko is at home in attacking midfield and is a real playmaker. It is therefore no wonder that the 25-year-old Ukrainian wears the number 10 on his shirt and controls the game. With three goals in four games, he is also his team’s top scorer and therefore one of the key players in the team. Interest from abroad was therefore not a rarity in his career, but his loyalty to his youth club was simply more important to him
Always good for a goal
With twelve goals in the first four competitive matches (Ø 3.00), the visiting team is virtually unstoppable. This is primarily due to their variability, because with nine different goalscorers, the team is difficult to calculate. In addition to Shaparenko, Yarmolenko, Kabaev and Vanat also deserve special mention. We are therefore certain that Dynamo Kiev will also have one or two good scoring opportunities in Glasgow.
While the offense has played itself into a frenzy early in the season, the visitors’ defense still seems to have some room for improvement. However, that is complaining at a high level, as Kiev were by no means vulnerable, conceding just four goals in four games. Nevertheless, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi’s side have only kept a clean sheet once and have conceded at least one goal in 75% of their competitive matches.
Predicted Dynamo Kyiv line-up:
Bushchan – Karavayev, Popov, Mykhavko, Vivcharenko – Shaparenko, Brazhko, Pikhalyonok – Yarmolenko, Vanat, Kabaiev
Glasgow Rangers – Dynamo Kyiv head-to-head / H2H result
The direct comparison between the two teams could hardly be more even, as the two teams have each won one match. In addition, the third and final encounter ended in a draw. However, the Scots had the edge in the first leg and could have won the game. Therefore, our prediction between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Kiev is also in favor of the home team
Glasgow Rangers – Dynamo Kiev betting tip
For our main betting tip, however, we have decided against a win. This is because the Ukrainians were already denied home advantage in the first leg and the team was still able to keep up well. It would therefore come as no surprise if we also see chances on both sides of the pitch in the second leg. We therefore recommend betting on “both teams to score – yes” between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Kiev
Alternatively, you can also add the odds for a win for the home side between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Kiev to your betting slip. Especially with their own fans behind them, the Scots should be able to win this game and advance to the next round. Hampden Park is known for being like a twelfth man on the pitch and that can be decisive in such a close encounter.
