Do the Foals slide deeper into the crisis?

The week in the European Cup really had it all, especially from a German perspective. Two teams that had nothing to do with it, however, will open Matchday 13 in the Bundesliga on Friday. Borussia Mönchengladbach awaits VfB Stuttgart. Above all, the eleven from the Lower Rhine is still behind expectations this season and must go all out for victory.

Eleventh place is too low for the demands at Borussia-Park. However, with 16 points, they are still in the race. The international places are only three points away. The midfield in the top flight is close together. If the Foals get the three points at home on Friday, they could make a big leap in the standings. Only the form is not right in Daniel Farke’s team.

The visitors from Ländle have collected only eleven points and are just two points ahead of the relegation place. There are still three games to go until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the Swabians should see that they gain some breathing space before then. The quotes suggest that in the match between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart, our tip is more likely to go to a home win.

However, Borussia are sliding deeper and deeper into a crisis, while VfB have at least found their way back to success at home under interim coach Michael Wimmer. Now it’s up to the guests to prove that they can also take a step forward away from home. We can at least imagine rethinking a prediction of a points division in the duel between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart.

Gladbach – statistics & current form

After the first few matchdays, it looked as if Daniel Farke, in his first station as a Bundesliga coach, would fit the eleven from the Lower Rhine like a glove. In the meantime, however, it has become apparent that the squad is not broad enough. Borussia cannot compensate for the absence of key players, at least not to the extent that is currently the case.

Pleitenserie of the Foals

So the Foals are sliding into a crisis at the worst possible time. Immediately before the long winter break, victories are absolutely necessary in order to be able to resume preparation with a good feeling. In the meantime, however, the Borussians have gone four games without a win. They have also lost three of their last three matches. That doesn’t sound as if the odds on a home win in the Gladbach vs. VfB Stuttgart match are without alternative.

Last week, however, Daniel Farke’s team carelessly gave away a sense of achievement. At leaders Union Berlin, the Foals led 1-0 after a goal by Elvedi until ten minutes before the end. After a mistake by keeper Sippel, the Eisern equalised and in the seventh minute of injury time, Borussia even had to swallow the 1:2.

On Friday, Gladbach again had to cope with a number of absences. Elvedi, who is ill, is not expected to play. Itakura, Neuhaus, Hannes Wolf and Yann Sommer will also be absent. Jonas Hofmann resumed team training during the week. It is possible that the international could at least be part of the squad again. Kone returns to the starting eleven after his yellow suspension.

Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sippel – Scally, Friedrich, Elvedi, Bensebaini – Weigl, Kone – Stindl, Kramer, Plea – Thuram – Coach: Farke

VfB Stuttgart – Statistics & current form

For a long time, the Swabians have held on to Pellegrino Matarazzo. However, the latest figures show that the change on the coaching bench was overdue from a sporting point of view. Under Michael Wimmer, VfB scored more points in three games than under Matarazzo in nine. Tactical changes, especially the use of a double striker, make Stuttgart much more dangerous.

Longing for an away win

On the last matchday, the Swabians fired 31 shots on goal, the most in a Bundesliga match since March 2007. That certainly sounds like you can make a prediction on goals from both teams in the Gladbach vs VfB Stuttgart clash. But you shouldn’t necessarily believe in an away win, because the Swabians haven’t won a single match away from home in the calendar year 2022.

It is striking that VfB concedes many goals in the opening phase. Florian Müller has already had to make seven saves in the first quarter of an hour. Last weekend, Augsburg took the lead in Stuttgart after just four minutes. However, the Swabians fought relentlessly for the victory and after goals from Sehrou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton they still managed to get the three points late on.

After this decent performance in the Swabian duel, there is really no reason for Michael Wimmer to change anything in the starting line-up. Mavropanos, however, should play from the start again after overcoming calf problems. In general, there are numerous options available, as the entire squad will probably be ready for action on Friday.

Predicted line-up of VfB Stuttgart:
Müller – Anton, Mavropanos, Zagadou, Sosa – Ahamada, Endo, Silas, Führich – Pfeiffer, Guirassy – Coach: Wimmer

Last matches played by VfB Stuttgart:

Bundesliga
29/10/2022 – VfB Stuttgart 2 – 1 Augsburg

22/10/2022 – Borussia Dortmund 5 – 0 VfB Stuttgart

20/10/2022 – VfB Stuttgart 6 – 0 Arminia Bielefeld

Gladbach – VfB Stuttgart Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs VfB Stuttgart is a match for the nostalgic among football fans. The two clubs have faced each other 100 times in the Bundesliga alone. A total of 106 games are on the books, including the two UEFA Cup semi-finals in the 1979/80 season. In the direct comparison, the Swabians are ahead with 42:34 wins and 30 draws.

Stuttgart have now been unbeaten against the team from the Lower Rhine for five Bundesliga matches. The last defeat for VfB came almost four years ago in December 2018 at Borussia-Park. Last season, they parted with a 1-1 draw on the Lower Rhine. VfB then won the return match in Stuttgart 3-2 at their own stadium.

Gladbach – VfB Stuttgart Tip

Gladbach are looking for a way out of the crisis. A home win on Friday would be the right sign to get back on track. After three defeats in a row, however, it is difficult to believe in a success for the Foals, especially as Borussia have not won against Stuttgart for five games. There is a tendency that it will not be enough for a home win again.

The Swabians have clearly shown an upswing under Michael Wimmer. Especially offensively, VfB is finally scoring goals again. However, this is more noticeable at home. There has not been a single Bundesliga victory away from home in the calendar year 2022.

Betting on a draw is always associated with a high risk. Perhaps a tip on the double chance X2 also fits. However, we think we will be much more modest with our betting slip in this encounter. The quotes are low, but we have decided to play the betting odds on goals for both teams between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart.
