Low-scoring basement duel in the Madrid region?

On Monday evening, a crisis summit will take place in Spain when Getafe, currently second to last, hosts Valencia, third to last in La Liga. Both teams would have been relegated according to the current standings, but are only one and two points respectively behind the save shore.

This match offers a correspondingly good chance of an immediate improvement in the situation. However, it is not easy to make a bet on the outcome of the match between Getafe and Valencia.

Both opponents are noticeably unsettled after all. The Madrilenians have not won any of their last six league games (two draws, four defeats), while the visitors from the east coast of Spain have lost five games in a row. Both teams have never scored more than one goal of their own in a game, which definitely influences our prediction for Getafe against Valencia.

Since returning to Spain’s top flight in the 2017/18 season, Getafe have not gone without conceding a goal at home against any other La Liga opponent more often than they have against Valencia (four times – the same as against Real Betis). The Madrilenians’ last home game against Los Che ended in a 0-0 draw, so there is plenty of value in betting that one team will score the maximum number of goals in this basement clash.

Getafe – Statistics & current form

Getafe Club de Fútbol is based in the Madrid suburb of Getafe and advanced to become the third strongest force in the Spanish capital in the 21st century, alongside Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.

The Azulones have now been playing regularly in La Liga since the summer of 2004. Even after relegation at the end of the 2015/16 season, they went back up a level just one year later. The upstart even finished the 2018/19 season in fifth place in the final table.

Winless for six league games in a row

Currently, however, the capitals are once again in danger of relegation. They have only won four of their first 21 league games (seven draws, ten defeats), which means they are currently two points off the first non-relegation place. Not one of the last six league games was won (four draws, two defeats).

Nevertheless, the recent 1-1 draw with city rivals Atlético Madrid was a small ray of hope, which the team now hopes to build on. However, balanced betting odds are available on Getafe against Valencia. After all, against the visitors from the Spanish east coast, the Azulones have currently been waiting for another win for three encounters (one draw, two defeats).

Won only two of their last 15 home games in La Liga

A further factor working against Quique Sánchez Flores’ team is the fact that their former home strength has disappeared. Getafe have won only two of their last 15 home games in La Liga (seven draws, six defeats). By comparison, the capital city side had previously gone unbeaten in ten home games in a row (seven wins, three draws).

Above all, the Azulones need to improve their offensive performance. With just ten goals from eleven home games in the league, Getafe have the third weakest home attack in La Liga.

Valencia – Statistics & current form

Valencia CF have a very colourful history. The Blanquinegros have won six national championships (most recently in 2004), eight Copa del Rey titles (most recently in 2019) and several international trophies (including the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1980 and the UEFA Cup in 2004).

The club from Spain’s east coast has been hit all the harder by its current period of weakness. Los Che finished a disappointing ninth in the final table last season and subsequently missed out on the Copa del Rey final. The Murciélagos are currently fighting to stay in the league.

Winless in 17 matches in the region of Madrid

In the wake of losing five consecutive competitive games – including four defeats in La Liga alone – Los Che slipped to a direct relegation spot. The situation is still not overly precarious, with “only” one point separating them from the relegation zone. However, the negative streak must be ended quickly, which is why the coaching staff has been readjusted once again.

Away in Getafe, club legend Rubén Baraja (358 matches for the Blanquinegros) will be on the bench for the first time, who is supposed to end the recent dry spell in the national capital as a first step. Since a 1-0 win at Getafe in November 2018, Valencia have gone winless in 17 away La Liga games at teams from the Madrid region (four draws, 13 defeats).

Won only one of their ten away games in La Liga

With the away record in mind, it is definitely risky to tip Getafe against Valencia for the Murciélagos to win a point. Los Che have only won one of their ten away games (three draws, six defeats), with just eight goals scored in those ten away games.

To make matters worse, the new coach has to compensate for two of his offensive weapons. Edison Cavani (five goals) and Samu Castillejo (three goals), two of the Blanquinegros’ top three scorers, are both out injured.

Getafe – Valencia Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 12 – 9 – 19

There have been a total of 40 meetings between the two teams so far and Valencia lead the head-to-head comparison with 19 wins. Getafe have lost just one game in ten consecutive meetings with the Murciélagos (four wins, five draws), but the Azulones have suffered two defeats in their last three encounters (one draw).

Getafe – Valencia Tip

Both opponents in this basement clash currently lack confidence, making it extremely difficult to predict the outcome of Getafe vs Valencia. The Azulones have not won in six league games (two draws, four defeats), while the visitors from the east coast have lost all five of their last competitive games.

Both teams have struggled to score goals, so betting on a maximum of one team scoring in this clash is very consistent. After all, in the Azulones’ last six home games against Los Che, there have never been any goals scored on either side.
