Can Barcelona maintain their lead over Real Madrid?
On Sunday, it comes to the clash between Getafe FC and Barcelona FC. The omens are clear, because while the hosts are fighting against relegation, the visitors are only a few points short of the championship title. The lead over Real Madrid is enormous and anything other than the championship would be a big surprise. For this reason, the betting odds between Getafe and Barcelona clearly point to an away win. However, the big lead in second place could also lead to carelessness and mean a chance for the underdog.
Getafe FC are 17th in the home table, making them one of the weakest home teams in the league. Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have picked up 19 points from 14 games at home, losing just five home games.
The home side should be encouraged by their form in recent weeks, as the Azulones have picked up 13 points from their last nine games, losing just two. Among other things, the home side managed to earn a point against Atletico in Madrid.
FC Barcelona’s away record is outstanding, with Xavi’s team taking 36 points from 14 games away from home. The only two defeats were against Almeria and Real Madrid. This also puts Barca at the top of the away table.
Recently, there have been some heavy setbacks for the Blaugrana, as Barcelona lost three of their last nine games. The visitors were eliminated in the Copa del Rey semi-finals and also in the Europa League. The championship is thus essential and therefore between Getafe and Barcelona the odds are also against a home win.
We recommend betting on a win for the visitors between Getafe and Barcelona. The hosts have one of the weakest offences in the league, while Barca have the best defence in La Liga. The Catalans won the first leg 1-0 and we can imagine a similar result on Sunday. The betting odds for this match outcome therefore have a lot of value and should be taken.
Getafe – Statistics & current form
Getafe are in 15th place in the highest Spanish division. Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have taken 30 points from 28 games and are therefore in serious danger of relegation. The lead over the red zone is only three points. A point against the great FC Barcelona would therefore be extremely important, because in the fight to stay in the relegation zone it would be like a bonus point. Since Getafe FC only narrowly avoided relegation in the previous season, a difficult season was also to be expected this season. Qualitatively, the Azulones definitely belong in the top flight.
The Coliseum Alfonso Perez
The hosts are unbeaten in four La Liga games at home and have even won all of their last three home games. The victories came against Sevilla FC, Girona FC and Valencia FC. FC Barcelona is of course a different calibre.
However, the Catalans could not win the last two games at Getafe and even remained without a goal. Moreover, Barca’s attack was only able to fire two shots on Getafe FC’s goal in those two matches and was thus harmless over 90 minutes.
The Harmless Offense
With 27 goals in 28 games, Getafe FC has one of the weakest offences in the Spanish first division. FC Elche, Real Valladolid, Osasuna and RCD Mallorca are the only four teams that have found the back of the net less often this season.
This is also reflected in the individual statistics of the players, as Getafe only provide seven different goal scorers. Enes Ünal and Borja Mayoral scored 19 of the 27 goals and consequently Quique Sanchez Flores’ team is harmless. The team is therefore extremely dependent on the striker duo and thus very predictable.
The horror balance
Getafe have won only 8.6% of their games against the Catalans in Spain’s top division (35 games, 3 wins, 7 draws and 25 defeats). Quique Sanchez Flores’ team has a worse win rate against no other team in La Liga.
The hosts’ coach has failed to win any of his last eight league games against FC Barcelona (2 draws, 6 defeats). Consequently, Quique Sanchez Flores’ record is not particularly promising either. But every streak comes to an end and therefore the past should not be too relevant.

Barcelona – Statistics & current form
Fc Barcelona are in first place in the highest Spanish division. Xavi’s team has 72 points from 28 games this season and has only lost twelve points. The lead over Real Madrid is already 13 points and the Catalans are therefore on a very good path towards the championship. Barcelona would thus knock the royals off their throne and wipe out their eternal rivals. With elimination in the Champions League, Europa League and Copa del Rey, the championship title is almost a must.
The Catalan Wall
Barcelona have gone 21 of 28 games without conceding a goal this season. That means Xavi’s side have set the record in Europe’s top five leagues in the 21st century and could become the sole record-holder against Getafe FC.
The Catalans have only conceded nine goals this season and have only conceded more than one goal once. For that reason alone, a defeat against Getafe FC seems unlikely, as the hosts would probably need to score at least two goals to do so.
Strong on the offensive
The reigning runners-up have scored 53 goals in 28 games this season, making them the second-best offensive team in the league. Barcelona have only failed to score three times this season and should therefore also find the net against Getafe FC.
One player in particular is in focus and that is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish centre-forward has been directly involved in five of the last seven away goals (3 goals, 2 assists) and seems to be particularly good away from home. With a total of 23 scoring points, the former Bayern player is by far the best scorer in the team.
Possession football
Barcelona is known for a lot of possession and that is also the case under Xavi. The Catalans play an average of 525 passes per game and have a passing rate of 88.2%. Nevertheless, some things have changed under the current coach and this has had a positive effect on the way the team plays.
Possession is no longer the top priority and risk balls are played into the final third more often. In addition, the cross play has also increased, which is primarily due to Robert Lewandowski. This makes FC Barcelona even harder to defend and that is why they are so successful in La Liga. Between Getafe and Barcelona, the prediction on many goals is not recommended by us.

Getafe – Barcelona Direct comparison / H2H-Balance
The direct comparison between the two teams clearly goes to the visitors. Barcelona could win 28 duels, while Getafe could only get four victories. The last match between the two teams was won by the Catalans 1-0 with a goal from Pedri. This means that Barca have lost only one of their last 22 duels against Getafe FC. For this reason, our prediction between Getafe and Barcelona clearly goes in the direction of the visitors. A defeat for the current league leaders seems rather unlikely.
Getafe – Barcelona Tip
We bet on an away win between Getafe and Barcelona. Getafe FC’s form has been quite positive lately, but it won’t be enough for Barcelona. The host’s offensive is too weak to be really dangerous for the Catalans. Against the strongest defence, the home side will only be able to create a few chances and will probably leave the field without a goal of their own. Since the visitors have one of the best offences in the league, a win for the visiting team seems very likely.
Alternatively, we recommend odds of under 2.5 goals between Getafe and Barcelona. In the last two duels between these two teams, only one goal was scored in total. This is mainly due to the fact that the home side will be very defensive and will be at the back for 90 minutes. On average, Getafe FC conceded only 1.28 goals per match and therefore we can imagine results like 0:1 or 0:2.
