The cloverleaf continues with momentum?

SpVgg Greuther Fürth have not given up yet. The prospects of staying in the Bundesliga are admittedly virtually non-existent at the moment, but nevertheless the coach is demonstratively being backed. The Franconians have made it clear that they are willing to continue working with Stefan Leitl even in the event of relegation.

Miracles do happen, however, and what Mainz achieved last year, Fürth are striving for this year. At the moment, however, the bottom team is still eleven points behind the relegation place. The problem is that the competition in the bottom of the table also scores frequently. Hope dies last at the Ronhof.

Mainz do not have to worry about relegation this season. With 27 points, the Rheinhessen team is in tenth place. However, Bo Svensson’s team must be careful not to let a good season degenerate into a mediocre one. In general, we wouldn’t predict an away win in the duel between Fürth and Mainz at the moment.

Maybe it’s a good omen that the cloverleaf scored the first win in its young Bundesliga history on 31 August 2012 against Mainz, of all teams. In addition, Mainz are in good form at the moment and the Rheinhessen are currently having big problems, especially away from home. Therefore, we can even imagine betting on a home victory in the match between Fürth and Mainz.

Fürth – Statistics & current form

Stefan Leitl’s team is still alive. What was still missing at the beginning of the season has now found its way into the Franconians. Defensive stability, especially at the Ronhof, brought some points recently. In the last three home games, Greuther Fürth have not conceded a goal. Only the upcoming opponents from Mainz can boast such a series in home games.

Stable at the Ronhof

When the defence is good, then you can also score. Thus, the cloverleaf conceded only one defeat in the last five Bundesliga games. However, they only managed three draws in the last three games. That is too little to put the competition under pressure and also why we would not play the odds on the Franconians staying in the class before the duel between Fürth and Mainz.

Last weekend, Fürth could have actually landed a big point. A win in Bielefeld would have brought them a good deal closer to the East Westphalians, but despite a 2-1 lead after goals from Jamie Leweling and Havard Nielsen, the club had to swallow the bitter pill of a 2-2 equaliser in the end.

The Fuerth team is still very short of players. Marius Funk, Gideon Jung, Robin Kehr and Jessic Ngankam are all still injured. Justin Hoogma is in rehabilitation training after his infection. New keeper Andreas Linde could make his debut in goal. Jeremy Dudziak and Havard Nielsen are fighting for the place on the ten.

Predicted line-up of Fürth:
Linde – Meyerhöfer, Griesbeck, Viergever, Willems – Christiansen, Seguin, Tillmann, Dudziak – Leweling, Hrgota – Coach: Leitl

Mainz – Statistics & current form

At the Ronhof there will be a novelty on Saturday. Mainz coach Bo Svensson is the first coach in Bundesliga history to serve a yellow suspension. Therefore, he will not be on the bench, but he will of course prepare his team for the match in Fürth. However, he will not be allowed to intervene during the 90 minutes of the match.

Away nothing goes

It would be important for the coach to be involved, as Mainz have lost their last four away games in the Bundesliga. With the defeat in the cup in Bochum, it is five defeats away from home en suite. This then speaks more in favour of predicting a home win in the duel Fürth vs Mainz.

The Rheinhessen side had set their sights high in Bochum on Tuesday. A place in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup would have been a big deal for the club. Karim Onisiwo even put the 05ers in front, but Mainz surrendered to their fate in the second period, conceding three more goals and thus missing a great opportunity.

In addition to the suspended coach, Marcus Ingvartsen, Dominik Kohr, Adam Szalai and Niklas Tauer will also be unavailable on Saturday. In their place, the club hopes to have returnee Jeremiah St. Juste in central defence. Jonathan Burkardt is also very likely to return to the starting eleven for the Rheinhessen side.

Predicted line-up of Mainz:
Zentner – St. Juste, Bell, Niakhate – Widmer, Stach, Aaron – Barreiro, Lee – Burkardt, Onisiwo – Coach: Svensson

Last matches played by Mainz:

01/18 2022 – Vfl Bochum 3 – 1 Mainz 05

01/15 2022 – Mainz 05 1 – 0 Vfl Bochum

Fürth – Mainz Direct comparison / H2H balance

The teams from Fürth and Mainz have faced each other a total of 28 times so far. The vast majority of the matches were played in the 2. Bundesliga. This is only the fourth time that this encounter has taken place in the top flight. The direct comparison speaks clearly in favour of the Franconians with 17:8 victories. Only three times did they part with a draw.

In the first leg, the Fürth side was still busy acclimatising to the top flight, while the Mainz side still had the momentum of the previous season in their backpacks. As a result, the 05ers won clearly 3-0 at home, with Anderson Lucoqui, Adam Szalai and Kevin Stöger the scorers for the Rheinhessen side.

Fürth – Mainz Tip

Greuther Fürth will try to make up further ground on the competition on Saturday. The statistics certainly indicate that the cloverleaf will succeed in this mission, as the direct comparison against Mainz is clearly in favour of the Franconians. In addition, Fürth has not conceded a goal at home in three games.

In addition, there has only been one defeat in the last five Bundesliga games. For Mainz, on the other hand, things look rather bad away from home. They have lost four away games in the Bundesliga and were also eliminated in the cup last week in Bochum.

We don’t expect many goals though, especially as Mainz have the second best defence in the league and the Kleeblatt have defended very well at home recently. Bets on no goals from both teams or less than two goals could well suit. However, we have decided to play the betting odds on a home win between Fürth and Mainz.
