The Foals want to free themselves for good
Fürth are still in last place in the Bundesliga and currently it doesn’t look like that will change again. The quality is simply not enough to stay in Germany’s highest division.
What comes as little surprise is the bookmakers’ assessment based on this fact. Because before the game Fürth against Gladbach, the odds indicate a clear favourite role for the guests. Gladbach should therefore normally decide the match in their favour.
But there are many things, especially in football, that do not go “normally” or according to plan. Gladbach will have to play a good game to win in Fürth. The game takes place on Saturday at 15:30 at the Sportpark Ronhof.
Fürth – Statistics & current form
At the beginning of the season, Fürth undoubtedly had great problems getting used to the level and pace in the Bundesliga. That is no longer the case in this strength, but it still doesn’t look like they will be able to stay in the league. Although some elements have improved in the second half of the season, the hosts have only managed three victories, all of them at home. Eleven points in the games so far after the turn of the year is nothing to be ashamed of for the promoted team, but it is still ten points away from the relegation place. It may sound trite, but it is now a matter of relegating with dignity.
Fürth have problems in all areas
Fürth have the worst defence with 70 goals conceded, and in addition only Bielefeld score fewer goals than the hosts in the Bundesliga. In addition, even a lead is often not enough; Fürth and Gladbach, together with Leverkusen, are the teams that most often drop points after taking the lead. That also fits into the overall picture.
Another aspect that plays a role before this duel is the statistics that Fürth has against Gladbach so far. The two have faced each other eleven times, and Fürth has not been able to win any of these games. To make matters worse, a fearful opponent is coming to the Ronhof.

Gladbach – Statistics & current form
Gladbach are really not playing a particularly good season. The Foals have problems in all areas, are running behind their own expectations and, to make matters worse, have had to deal with absences time and again throughout the season. The biggest relegation worries are over for the time being, but the Foals still have some problems and need to pick up points in order to avoid relegation. And the bottom team is just the ticket.
Last matchday, Gladbach drew 1-1 with Mainz 05. Under the circumstances, that was an okay result, even if more would have been possible overall. As so often, coach Adi Hütter’s team showed two faces. The first half was more than solid, but after Mainz’s changes problems followed again and it was thanks to an outstanding Yann Sommer that Gladbach did not lose.
With seven points from the last three games, Gladbach have definitely created a buffer between themselves and the relegation place. Before the matchday, it was eight points to 16th place, where Arminia Bielefeld are. The visitors are not yet in complete safety, but things are looking very good as far as early class preservation is concerned.
The defence worries Hütter
Defensively, Borussia Mönchengladbach still has some catching up to do. 52 goals conceded is the third-worst figure in the entire league, and without Yann Sommer’s 100-plus saves, which make him the league’s best goalkeeper in that statistic, things would look a lot different.
But the worst-case scenarios seem to have been averted in any case, even though Gladbach are now away from home. There, they not only scored nine goals less than at home, but also conceded eight more and lost twice as many games (8) as at Borussia-Park. Consequently, the points average away from home is significantly worse than at home.
However, the roles are already very clearly distributed before this match and Gladbach has also shown good approaches away from home recently – for example in Bochum.
