Will the SGE turn the corner at home against the Geißböcke?
For the first time since the 2008/09 season, Eintracht Frankfurt remained winless in the first five matchdays of a season in the Bundesliga. Now, of all times, 1. FC Köln, who have not lost any of their last three league games and have picked up eight of a possible 15 points from their first five games, are visiting Deutsche Bank Park.
The SGE have a strong home record to show for it. The Eagles have not lost in the Bundesliga for 21 home games in a row (twelve wins, nine draws). Despite the poor start to the season, the odds in the run-up to the match between Frankfurt and Cologne are therefore in favour of the Hessians.
Because both of Hesse’s home games in league play this season ended in draws, however, at least the division of points should end up on the betting slip in some form. Accordingly, we see a lot of value in betting on the double chance 1X for Frankfurt against Cologne. For an attractive odds boost, this can also be combined with a bet on goals on both sides.
Germany Frankfurt – Statistics & current form
Eintracht Frankfurt won the German championship for the only time to date in 1959 and, with a surprise triumph in the DFB Pokal in 2018, are now four-time cup winners.
The former founding member of the Bundesliga has been represented in the second division from time to time, but has belonged to the Beletage of German football for ten years in a row. Most recently, the Hessians qualified for the Europa League again in fifth place in the previous season, before there was a major upheaval in the summer.
Expected teething troubles after notable departures
In addition to coach Adi Hütter and sporting director Fredi Bobic, numerous key players such as André Silva also left. The Hesse team’s teething problems have not come completely out of the blue, of course, although there have been difficult phases from time to time in recent years.
Just last autumn, for example, the SGE went winless in nine consecutive games between October and December 2020. Meanwhile, there are currently seven games under Oliver Glasner in which the first win has yet to come
Last five draws in a row
But at least it can be stated that the Hessians have not lost any of their last five competitive games. In the last English week, they fought their way back to a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in the Europa League and also managed a respectable 1-1 against the still unbeaten VfL Wolfsburg.
Accordingly, the Adlerträgern can definitely be expected to win a point or perhaps even their first treble against the Geißböcke as well.
Predicted Frankfurt line-up:
Trapp – Durm – Hinteregger – Ndicka – da Costa – Jakic – Sow – Kostic – Hauge – Borré – Lammers

Germany Cologne – Statistics & current form
1. FC Köln are three-time German champions and have won the DFB Pokal four times, just like Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the last national title of the Geißböcke dates back to the summer of 1983.
Currently, the “Effzeh” is back in the Bundesliga for the third year in a row after a one-year intermezzo in the second division. After finishing 14th in their first year after promotion, the Cologne team only managed to stay in the league at the last minute via the relegation play-off.
The best start to a season since 2016/17
All the more surprising was Cologne’s extremely successful start.
The “Effzeh” have only lost their first five league games against serial and record champions FC Bayern And that, mind you, was only a narrow 2:3 away at the Allianz Arena
New coach Steffen Baumgart’s team picked up eight out of a possible twelve points from the other four games. Cologne thus played their best league start in five years and currently occupy seventh place in the table.
Sonly 13 Bundesliga away wins in Frankfurt
The fact that the Geißböcke have already scored nine goals is particularly striking. The last time a Cologne team scored more goals in five matchdays was in the 1988/89 season, when the season ended with a runner-up finish. It would still be an infinitely long way until then. Nevertheless, the traditional club from the cathedral city can currently expect calm weeks and months if the form continues.
In view of Baumgart’s team’s current form and willingness to score, the prognosis for Frankfurt against Cologne is accordingly good: the “Effzeh” will at least score an away goal in the banking city. And after all: Cologne have already recorded an away win in Frankfurt 13 times in league play…
Predicted line-up of Cologne:
Horn – Hector – Czichos – Kilian – Schmitz – Skhiri – Kainz – Ljubicic – Duda – Uth – Modeste
Last matches played by Köln:
Frankfurt – Cologne Direct Comparison / H2H-Balance
Head to head: 38 – 30 – 40
There have been a total of 108 meetings between the two teams so far and with 40 victories the “Effzeh” leads the direct comparison by a narrow margin. Most recently, however, the Geißböcke remained winless against the Adler three times in a row (two draws, one defeat).
United Kingdom Frankfurt – Cologne United Kingdom Tip
For Frankfurt against Cologne, the prediction must take into account that the SGE has remained winlessin seven competitive matches under Oliver Glasner, while the “Effzeh” has so far only lost the top match against FC Bayern and has otherwise always scored. The Geißböcke travel to the metropolis on the Main with plenty of momentum.
However, the SGE, who have drawn five times in a row recently, are also very difficult to beat, which is why we see the home side as having a slight advantage overall. We therefore recommend betting on the double chance 1X, which can be combined very profitably with the very probable bet on goals on both sides.
