Will Eintracht record their fourth home win in a row?
As a player, Dino Toppmöller has had a decent, but not outstanding career. He had a good time with VfL Bochum, with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2002 and then moved to the amateurs of Eintracht Frankfurt. On Saturday, there will be a flashback to the past. In our Frankfurt v Bochum betting tip, we take a look at whether the Eintracht coach will take the three points against his former club
The table looks very respectable for the Hessians at the moment. With 31 points, Eintracht are in sixth place and are at least well on the way to playing internationally again next season. Even the Champions League is currently only six points away. From the premier class to the Conference League, everything still seems to be possible for Frankfurt.
It was foreseeable that VfL Bochum would be in the relegation battle again this year. 14th place sounds as if they are in the thick of the action, but the cushion to the relegation places is still six points. There are even nine points between them and the direct relegation places. Therefore, ahead of the clash between Frankfurt and Bochum, we dare to predict that VfL will remain in the top flight in the coming season
Frankfurt – statistics & current form
Eintracht have started the new year very well, but have already shown that you always have to take setbacks into account. But Dino Toppmöller’s team is not a top team. However, seven points from the four games after the winter break is a decent haul to keep them in with a good chance of qualifying for the European Cup.
Frankfurt with three home wins in a row
Frankfurt’s away form is still somewhat mixed at the moment, but they are on a roll at home. They have won their last three home games, including an outstanding 5:1 victory over FC Bayern. In general, Eintracht have only lost one of their last 19 Bundesliga home games
The team could have really picked up speed towards the top flight last weekend. However, Eintracht conceded a deserved 2-0 defeat at weakening 1. FC Köln. Somehow you got the feeling that Frankfurt didn’t have much to counter the passion of the Billy Goats, or that they channeled it the wrong way themselves.
In addition to the defeat, Dino Toppmöller also had to see Tuta and Niels Nkounkou sent off. The back four will therefore have a very different look on Saturday. If you like, however, there is also a positive lesson to be learned from the defeat in Cologne. Under Dino Toppmöller, there has only ever been two Bundesliga defeats in a row.
Predicted Frankfurt line-up:
Bochum – Statistics & current form
The guarantee for VfL Bochum to stay in the Bundesliga is their home strength at Castroper Straße. In perhaps the most traditional soccer stadium of all German Bundesliga arenas, VfL regularly pick up points to ensure their survival. But that is also absolutely essential, as Bochum are once again struggling away from home this season
Not much going for Bochum away from home
Thomas Letsch’s team have lost all of their last three away games. In total, VfL have only won one of their last 14 away games in the top flight, and that came at bottom-of-the-table Darmstadt. Once again, we can therefore say that an away win is unlikely in the encounter between Frankfurt and Bochum.
However, we can’t completely rule out a points-split, as Bochum are the absolute specialists in the top flight. Nine of VfL’s 20 games so far this season have ended in a draw. There have also been seven defeats. That leaves a total of just four wins. The problem is that Thomas Letsch’s team has already dropped 13 points this season after taking the lead.
This was also the case last week at home against FC Augsburg. Moritz Broschinski initially put his team 1:0 ahead. VfL then had numerous good opportunities to decide the match. Augsburg had almost no chance of scoring, but were awarded a correct penalty in stoppage time and then took a point from Bochum with the 1:1.
Predicted Bochum line-up:
Frankfurt – Bochum Direct comparison / H2H balance
In the history books of German soccer, there have been 72 matches between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Bochum to date. The direct comparison is 29:26 in favor of the Hessians. The two rivals have drawn a total of 17 times. VfL Bochum have not celebrated as many wins against any other club in the Bundesliga as they have against Eintracht.
Under Thomas Letsch, VfL are undefeated in their three matches against the Hessians. However, Bochum have only won one of their last 18 competitive matches in Frankfurt, a 3-0 win in the Bundesliga in April 2007. The last encounter took place at Castroper Straße in September, when Eric Dina-Ebimbe put Eintracht ahead. Kevin Stöger equalized for VfL to make the final score 1:1
Frankfurt – Bochum betting tip
VfL Bochum have not beaten any other club in the Bundesliga more than Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the last away win on the Rhine was almost 17 years ago. It was the only success at the Hesse club in the last 18 competitive matches. In addition to the historic results, it must be added that Bochum have lost their last three away games in the top flight.
On the other hand, Dino Toppmöller’s team have won all of their last three home games, including sweeping FC Bayern off the pitch with a 5:1 victory. It therefore sounds very clear that the hosts will keep the points on the Main on Saturday
The matches involving our two teams have not been particularly spectacular in recent weeks. Hardly ever have more than two goals been scored. That’s why we can also imagine a bet on under-goals. However, we have decided to play the odds on a simple home win for Eintracht in the match between Frankfurt and Bochum
