Do the Greens take their frustration out on Borac?
After failing to qualify for the Champions League, frustration was the order of the day in Budapest. Now it’s all about the consolation prize. Based on their performances so far, Ferencvaros are a hot tip for promotion against Banja Luka
The clubs’ playing styles also match the perceived balance of power perfectly. Fradi wants the ball and action, Borac is happy with stability and reaction. This can either end in a tough tussle or a brisk kick.
The recent performances of the two clubs are more than firing up the odds at Ferencvaros and Banja Luka. In their last five starts, the Greens have lost just once, while the Blue & Reds have only failed to lose twice.
Ferencvaros – Statistics & current form
After the painful departure from the top flight, the second tier now awaits. Will they shoot their way through?
When they let go – Fradi can whirl like the wind
Since the summer, Pascal Jansen has been the new coach on the bench of the Hungarian record champions. He stands for brisk and straightforward attacking soccer. In his 4-3-3, he made AZ from Alkmaar presentable in Europe again and the beginnings of his ideas could already be seen in his previous appearances.
The Greens began the season with a 5-0 demolition of the New Saints. However, it became clear in the duels with Midtjylland (0:2 / 1:1) that the trees do not yet grow into the sky in Budapest either.
What was also evident here, however, and the prognosis for Ferencvaros and Banja Luka in terms of goals scored, is the attacking approach. Fradi like to attack the ball and their opponents and want to switch quickly. Especially in home games, they are forced to do so by the critical crowd
Sometimes a little too playful?
However, if there’s one thing in this narrative that can take a little wind out of the sails and go some way to explaining the odds on goals on offer for Ferencvaros and Banja Luka, it’s that they’re a little too breezy at times.
In the domestic league, where they have had no serious competition for years, defensive slip-ups are simply shot away, but in Europe the clocks tick differently. They have had more or at least the same amount of the ball in almost all of their starts this season.
What has been their downfall time and again, however, has been their protection against the counter-attack. Against the New Saints, the game was already over after the first leg, but they were in for a rude awakening against the Danes. Borac may not be at the same level, but they can definitely counter-attack.
Predicted line-up of Ferencvaros:
Dibusz – Ramirez, Raul Gustavo, Cisse, Makreckis – Rommens, Maiga, Gruber – Zachariassen, Varga, Ben Romghane
Banja Luka – Statistics & current form
The Faroese representative was knocked out of the competition by hook or by crook. But now a massive improvement is needed
Offensively too fickle
A look at the Blue & Reds’ games so far this season reveals a strange phenomenon. The Bosnians can obviously only either play well defensively or attack. Neither has ever happened before.
Since the Bosnian league started much later than its Magyar counterpart, the appearances so far have almost exclusively been in Europe. In all the games seen so far, there has been either one goal or at least three or four. Only at the weekend against Sloboda was there a 2:0.
Combined with the skills of the Hungarian record champions, Ferencvaros v Banja Luka odds on goals seems to be a certain place on the betting slip. Only against Egnatia has there been one game without conceding a goal at European level. Since then, there have been nine in five appearances
If they go down, at least they go down with smoking guns
What the Blue and Red can’t be accused of, however, is not contributing to the overall entertainment. The defensive lapses have already been discussed, but at the other end of the field the goal net is also balling up with nice regularity.
The preferred 4-2-3-1 is often interpreted as a 4-5-1 against the ball. This means that there should be no way through, especially in the middle of the pitch, and access to the player with the ball should be established quickly.
The result is then quickly passed forward via the wings. At the end of the attack is a central breaker who either heads or passes. This has resulted in nine goals in their six continental appearances to date. They may be underdogs, but they can certainly sully the White Vests.
Predicted Banja Luka line-up:
Siskovski – Vukcevic, Carolina, Meijers, Kvrzic – Skorup, Grahovac – Sreckovic, Cavic, Hrelja – Lukic
Ferencvaros – Banja Luka head-to-head comparison / H2H result
This is the first time in recent history that these two clubs have faced off. The main reason for this is the often rather short European Cup seasons in Bosnia and Hungary. Looking at the Greens’ recent international travels, however, the prediction of a home win for Ferencvaros against Banja Luka is more than tenable
Ferencvaros – Banja Luka betting tip
It will probably be a classic first leg. The Greens will want to press from the start and create a good starting position and the visitors will want to do as little damage as possible and take a feasible result into the second leg.
The betting shops are more than certain about the final result of Ferencvaros vs Banja Luka. Accordingly, a bet on the home win alone does not pay off. Goals or handicaps should rather be played here to win something.
