In Wiesn-Outfit zu drei Punkten
The Oktoberfest is still falling victim to the global health situation this year. That doesn’t stop Bayern from presenting a traditional Wiesn jersey and playing a single match with it, namely against VfL Bochum on Saturday. Anyone watching this match shouldn’t be surprised that the Munich team will be wearing green.
There is basically nothing to shake about a win for the hosts. The Bavarians have played 47 games against promoted teams in the last eleven years, losing only once Otherwise, they have 43 wins and three draws to their name. Even though the promoted teams always look forward to the games against the record champions, there is usually nothing to be gained from them.
In the Bundesliga table, Bayern are currently in the chasing pack. After four match days, the Munich team is in second place with ten points behind VfL Wolfsburg, who have no points. Without going into further detail, the forecast for the match between Bayern and Bochum can only go to a clear home win.
The Revierklub is doing well so far and has three points after one win and three defeats. That’s currently good enough for 13th place, but it should be clear that VfL will be stuck in the Bundesliga relegation battle until the end of the season. We assume that in the duel between Bayern and Bochum on Saturday, betting on a successful match for the promoted team will not win you a pot of money.
Germany Bayern – Statistics & current form
The statistics that Bayern Munich can boast so early in the season are very impressive overall. Jamal Musiala, for example, is, somewhat surprisingly, currently the most effective offensive player in the Bundesliga, with a goal every 42 minutes on average. Not even Erling Haaland or Robert Lewandowski can come close to this figure.
Lewandowski exceptional
Lewandowski has scored every time in Bayern’s last twelve home games in the Bundesliga for this. No player has ever managed 13 home games with a goal. Moreover, the Pole has scored against 17 of the 18 Bundesliga teams – only against Bochum not yet. So you should take a close look at the odds on the attacker scoring at least one goal in the Bayern versus Bochum clash.
In total, Bayern have not lost at home in the Bundesliga for 29 games They showed during the week in the Champions League that they can also do it away from home when they had to play FC Barcelona. In the end, it was a clear and never threatening 3:0 victory for the Super-Bayern. Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski with a brace were the scorers.
On Saturday against VfL, the Munich team is expected to have a smaller rotation. Serge Gnabry, Marcel Sabitzer and Kingsley Coman are definitely candidates for the starting eleven. Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies or Dayot Upamecano could get a break. Corentin Tolisso is the only certainty to miss out at the moment, as he is out with a calf problem.
Predicted Bayern line-up:
Neuer – Pavard, Süle, Hernandez, Davies – Kimmich, Sabitzer – Gnabry, Müller, Coman – Lewandowski – Coach: Nagelsmann

Germany Bochum – Statistics & current form
A promoted team usually has a hard time in the Bundesliga. That’s why you shouldn’t expect any miracles from VfL Bochum, who surprisingly became second division champions last year. The Revierklub will win here and there, but will have to look for opponents at eye level, which FC Bayern is not one of.
Away weak VfL
The last away win in the top flight for VfL Bochum was in January 2010 Bochum have gone nine away games without a win in the Bundesliga, with only their last two defeats coming this season. All in all, however, this record does not sound as if one needs to make a prediction on a point gain or even a victory for the visitors in the Bayern vs. Bochum duel
Last weekend, Bayern Bochum suffered a heavy defeat at home against Hertha BSC. Until then, the Berliners had not yet scored a point. So these are the games at eye level that VfL have to win. In the end, the result was a 1:3 defeat. Simon Zoller was the only goal scorer for the Bochum side.
The same Zoller will now be out for around six months, as the attacker ruptured his cruciate ligament in training during the week. Sebastian Polter will now try to provide the necessary scoring threat in the attacking centre. Otherwise, Cristian Gamboa, Takuma Asano and probably Maxim Leitsch will be absent once again.
Predicted line-up of Bochum:
Riemann – Stafylidis, Bella Kotchap, Lampropoulos, Danilo Soares – Tesche, Losilla – Rexhbecaj, Blum, Holtmann – Polter – Coach: Reis

Bayern – Bochum Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
VfL Bochum have been a Bundesliga stalwart for decades. That is why there are already 75 matches between the FCB and the Revierklub. The direct comparison looks more like a tragedy for VfL, as Bayern are 50:9 ahead after victories. 16 games ended in a draw.
Out of the last 30 encounters, the Bochum side have only managed one win, namely in February 2004, at the time under Peter Neururer as coach. However, the last duel was only two years ago. In October 2019, Bayern struggled to a 2-1 win in Bochum in the second round of the DFB Cup. It was only late on that Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller turned around the deficit, which came courtesy of an own goal by Alphonso Davies.
United Kingdom Bayern – Bochum United Kingdom Tip
Bayern have shown in recent weeks what to expect from them this season. The draw at Gladbach to start the season was obviously just a blip. There is every indication that Julian Nagelsmann is making this team even stronger. The 3-0 win in Barcelona during the week supports this thesis.
The mental leap from Barcelona to Bochum is the only problem that could play into VfL’s hands. But the Munich side are experienced enough that they will take the promoted team seriously on Saturday.
Robert Lewandowski will be looking to score his first goal against Bochum and set a new record with a goal in his 13th home Bundesliga game in a row. We think he will succeed in this endeavour and expect a clear home victory. In the end, we decided to play betting odds on a handicap win (-3.5) for FCB between Bayern and Bochum
