With the start of the Serie A season fast approaching, here is a list of all the fantasy football first-choice goalkeepers with their respective second and third choices.
In a game where matches are played every three days, even the role of the goalkeeper has begun to take a different turn from a management perspective. What was once considered the immovable linchpin of every team is now a piece that must be managed as best as possible between matches in every competition. The search for another top-level “number one”—see Napoli with Milinkovic-Savic—for their squad is now fundamental for each of the twenty Serie A teams, who are increasingly careful not to be caught unprepared in the event of injuries, rest days, and suspensions of their starting goalkeeper. With the upcoming fantasy football auctions, fantasy managers have no choice but to study the hierarchies of each club as best they can. To avoid making mistakes in your line-up, here is our team-by-team guide.
Atalanta goalkeeper— First choice: Carnesecchi. Second choice: Sportiello. Third goalkeeper: Rossi – One of last season’s best goalkeepers, Carnesecchi remains unshakeable between the Nerazzurri posts. Following the departure of Rui Patricio, Sportiello will be his understudy. Bologna goalkeeper— Starting goalkeeper: Skorupski. Backup: Ravaglia. Third goalkeeper: Pessina – Skorupski is the starting goalkeeper for Italiano’s team, but last season Ravaglia was often substituted for the Polish goalkeeper. In any case, the hierarchy remains clear.
Cagliari goalkeepers— Starting goalkeeper: Caprile. Backup: Radunovic. Third goalkeeper: Ciocci – Redeemed by Napoli after an excellent second half of the 2024-25 season in the Rossoblù jersey, Caprile will undoubtedly be Cagliari’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025-26 championship. Radunovic, returning from his loan spell at Bari, will be the second choice.
Como goalkeepers— First-choice: Butez. Second: Vigorito. Third goalkeeper: Henrique Menke – Signed during the last winter transfer window, Butez immediately established himself as Como’s first-choice goalkeeper. There is no doubt that Fabregas will be the number one.
Goalkeeper CREMONESE— First-choice: Audero. Second: Nava. Third goalkeeper: Saro – After a year as second choice at Inter and an unhappy first half of the season at Como, Audero has made a positive start at Palermo in Serie B. Now, the role of first-choice goalkeeper at Cremonese awaits him. Newcomer Lapo Nava, born in 2004, will be the second goalkeeper. Fiorentina goalkeeper— Starter: De Gea. Backup: Martinelli. Third goalkeeper: Lezzerini – The contract renewal until 2028 leaves no room for doubt: De Gea will be Fiorentina’s starting goalkeeper during the 2025-26 season. He will be joined between the posts by youngster Martinelli (born in 2006), who will take the place occupied last season by Terracciano, now at Milan. Genoa goalkeeper— Starter: Leali. Deputy: Siegrist. Third goalkeeper: Sommariva – After ousting Gollini last season for the starting role, Leali has proven himself to be a more than reliable goalkeeper and will once again be Genoa’s first choice this year. Behind him is Siegrist, who made a good debut in the 2-2 draw against Napoli at the end of the 2024-25 season. Inter goalkeeper— First-choice goalkeeper: Sommer. Second-choice goalkeeper: Martinez. Third-choice goalkeeper: Di Gennaro – There are no doubts regarding Inter: Sommer will once again be the first-choice goalkeeper. It remains to be seen whether Chivu – compared to what Inzaghi did – will give Martinez a few more games, but the latter will still start behind the Swiss goalkeeper. Juventus goalkeeper— First-choice goalkeeper: Di Gregorio. Deputy: Perin. Third goalkeeper: Pinsoglio – At Juventus, the starting goalkeeper is Di Gregorio, who has earned Tudor’s unconditional trust. Perin is a more than valid alternative. However, the hierarchy is clear. Lazio goalkeeper— Starter: Provedel. Deputy: Mandas. Third goalkeeper: Furlanetto – Overtaken in the pecking order by Mandas at the end of last season, Provedel will try to relaunch his career under Sarri. The latter, however, has been clear on this point: “A rotation system. There will be no permanent goalkeeper for Lazio this season.” It remains to be seen whether this idea will be pursued in the long term. In the meantime, Provedel may have regained some ground on his teammate in the preseason friendlies.
Lecce goalkeeper— First-choice: Falcone. Second: Fruchtl. Third: Samooja – Falcone is one of the Salento club’s indispensable players. No Serie A appearances so far for the promising Fruchtl (a former pupil of Neuer with a past at Bayern), who is once again destined for the role of second choice.
Milan goalkeeper— First-choice: Maignan. Deputy: Terracciano. Third goalkeeper: Torriani – The issues at the start of the transfer window are now resolved: Maignan will remain at Milan as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. Behind him is Terracciano, who arrived from Fiorentina.
Napoli goalkeeper— First-choice: Milinkovic-Savic. Deputy: Meret. Third goalkeeper: Contini – Another heated situation between the posts concerns Napoli. With the purchase of Milinkovic-Savic, Meret’s place no longer seems so secure. The battle is open: at the moment, the former Torino goalkeeper seems to be slightly ahead in the pecking order. This is another situation to be monitored closely.
Parma goalkeeper— First-choice: Suzuki. Deputy: Corvi. Third goalkeeper: Rinaldi – Arriving last summer amid widespread skepticism, Zion Suzuki proved in the season just ended that he deserves to be Parma’s first-choice goalkeeper. He will be the first-choice keeper again this year. Corvi, born in 2001, will be the second goalkeeper.
PISA goalkeeper— First-choice: Semper. Second: Scuffet. Third goalkeeper: Vukovic – Semper, who played a key role in Pisa’s historic promotion from Serie B to Serie A, remains the first-choice goalkeeper. Behind him, in a contest that is still open at the moment, will be newcomer Scuffet, who will try to play his cards right to earn a spot as the starting goalkeeper.
ROMA GOALKEEPERS— Starting goalkeeper: Svilar. Backup: Vasquez. Third goalkeeper: Gollini – Roma’s first-choice goalkeeper is the unshakeable Svilar, who was named Serie A’s best goalkeeper of the 2024-25 season. Next in the pecking order is Vasquez, who arrived in the summer transfer window from Milan after a season on loan at Empoli, where he alternated between great performances and mistakes. Goalkeeper SASSUOLO— First-choice: Turati. Second: Satalino. Third goalkeeper: Russo – After two seasons marked by relegation with Frosinone and Monza, Turati will start afresh – for now as first-choice goalkeeper – with Sassuolo, the team that owns his registration. His deputy will be Satalino. TORINO GOALKEEPERS— First-choice: Israel. Deputy: Paleari. Third goalkeeper: Popa – Arriving from Sporting Lisbon for around €4 million, Israel will have the task of ensuring that Milinkovic-Savic (who moved to Napoli) is not missed in the role of first-choice goalkeeper. Behind him in the pecking order is Paleari. Udinese goalkeeper— First-choice: Sava. Deputy: Okoye. Third goalkeeper: Padelli – Maduka Okoye fared better than expected: only a two-month ban from the FIGC federal court. All charges related to a deliberate yellow card in the Lazio-Udinese match in 2024 have been dropped. The suspension will take effect on August 18, meaning the goalkeeper will miss the Coppa Italia opener and six league games. He will be able to return to action on October 19 in the away game against Cremonese. Sava will replace him in the first few weeks of Serie A, but once the suspension is over, there will be an open competition for the starting spot.
Verona goalkeepers— First choice: Montipò. Second choice: Perilli. Third goalkeeper: Magro – There are few doubts at Verona: Montipò will remain the first-choice goalkeeper, a certainty in Zanetti’s starting 11. Behind him in the pecking order are Perilli and Magro.
