Do the Reds also dominate the Merseyside derby?

How is the term “derby” defined? Does it always have to be geographically close between two teams or is it enough if two rival clubs face each other? In the Everton vs. Liverpool duel, both of these facts are given. Incidentally, this is also underlined by the statistics, as in no other pairing in Premier League history have there been more red cards (22), more draws (24) and more match-winning goals in injury time (five).

For this reason alone, we can expect a thrilling match on Merseyside on Wednesday night between two teams with completely contrasting form curves going into this prestigious clash. While the Toffees have been without a treble in England’s top flight since 25 September, the Reds are currently one of the most consistent and successful sides on the island.

This also leads to significantly lower odds being offered for the away win bet between Everton and Liverpool in the context of Matchday 14. In the event of a surprise point win for the Benitez eleven, the payout of 3.2 times the stake even beckons. Kick-off at Goodison Park is at 21:15 on Wednesday evening. Sky will broadcast live.

Everton – Statistics & current form

With ten points from the first four matches, Everton Football Club had a very good start to the new season. However, only one further treble has been added from the subsequent nine matches to date. The Toffees have not won in the Premier League since the end of September. The team of coach Rafael Benitez has thus waited seven consecutive games for its fifth league win overall.

Particularly worrying is the fact that in the last three matches they have not even managed to score a goal of their own. At Brentford (0:1), at Manchester City (0:3) as well as at home against Tottenham (0:0) the Blues went empty-handed. Whether this goal barrage will come to an end on Wednesday evening in the derby, of all places, must be highly doubted, after all there are various statistics that reinforce a prediction on the Reds between Everton and Liverpool.

Everton winless at home against LFC since 2010

Exemplary of this, for example, is the Toffees’ now ten-game winless streak in Premier League home games against their city rivals. Furthermore, Rafa Benitez has not had particularly good experiences in his coaching career in clashes with his former employers.

The Spaniard has only managed to win one of ten encounters against former clubs in England’s top flight. Instead, there were three draws and six defeats. Even worse: former Liverpool coaches who subsequently had to face the Reds in a different capacity lost out in 13 out of 14 cases!

In terms of personnel, there is at least one piece of positive news to report, as Brazilian international Richarlison returns to the team after serving his ban. Mason Holgate, on the other hand, continues to miss out, as do Calvert-Lewin, Mina, Davies and Gomes, all of whom are of course missing from Everton Football Club, now down in 14th place.

Predicted Everton line-up:
Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Godfrey, Digne; Townsend, Allan, Doucoure, Iwobi; Gray; Richarlison

Last games played by Everton:

Premier League
11/28 2021 – Brentford 1 – 0 Everton

11/21 2021 – Manchester City 3 – 0 Everton

11/07 2021 – Everton 0 – 0 Tottenham

11/01 2021 – Wolverhampton 2 – 1 Everton

10/23 2021 – Everton 2 – 5 Watford

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

Without a doubt, Liverpool Football Club is one of the hottest teams in world football at the moment. In the Champions League, the Reds have more points on their account than the three aforementioned clubs together after five match days in the group of death with Porto, Milan and Atletico Madrid, and coach Jürgen Klopp’s team is also fully on target at national level. In third place, LFC are currently two points behind leaders Chelsea and one point behind Manchester City.

There is no need to say much about their current form either, as Liverpool celebrated two 4-0 victories in the league and a commanding 2-0 win over FC Porto in the top flight following the last international break of the calendar year. At the same time, they extended an extremely impressive streak, as the Reds have always scored at least two goals of their own in their last 17 competitive matches. Not for over 90 years has there been such a run in England’s top flight.

Next dominant Reds performance in the Premier League?

With this in mind, it is perfectly understandable that between Everton and Liverpool, a bet on the visitors winning is our first option. However, because the corresponding quotes are relatively low, we still need a “boost”, which can come from a handicap win on the one hand, or from the double result on the other.

In favour of the latter is the statistic that LFC were already ahead at the break in five of the last six Premier League games. In the course of all eight league games won in 2021/22, betting on the double result would have been crowned with success. No other team scored more goals in the first 45 minutes of a match than the Klopp eleven (19). Only Liverpool and Chelsea were never behind before the tea break during the season!

The Reds’ outstanding dominance at times this season is further illustrated by the fact that they have already won four games by four goals or more. The odds on the -1 handicap between Everton and Liverpool are therefore also interesting. Especially, of course, because of the top form of Mo Salah, who in his last six away games for the 2020 champions has twelve ! scoring points (seven goals, five assists). Keita, Gomez, Elliott, Firmino and Jones will all be missing through injury.

Liverpool’s likely line-up:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Mane

Everton – Liverpool Tip

One of the absolute highlights of any Premier League season is upon us next Wednesday. For the 205th time, the Merseyside derby will be played in the highest division of the country. As so often in recent years, Everton are considered underdogs against Liverpool according to the betting odds.

However, that assessment is definitely justified, because while LFC have gone from win to win this season and have regained the ease or dominance of the championship season, especially in attack, the Toffees are among the biggest disappointments, currently in 14th place and seven consecutive league games without a win.

Because the Blues have not won any of their last ten home games against the Reds and have picked up just a measly point and scored just three goals in their last six Premier League games, Klopp’s side can be expected to win as a formality, despite the derby nature.

Consequently, between Everton and Liverpool we have decided to bet on the third-placed team already leading at half-time and winning the match.
