Does Everton’s dry spell continue?
Around the holidays, the English Premier League is not under a good star, because as many clubs repeatedly have individual cases of infection, many games had to be postponed recently.
Everton, for example, have not played a competitive match since mid-December, and a total of three games have been cancelled. This is a bitter pill to swallow for the already crisis-ridden club, as not much has gone according to plan this season. The new year should therefore be greeted with a victory at all costs.
However, the “Seagulls” have so far distinguished themselves through stable play, defeats are a rarity for the tenth-placed team in the table. It is therefore anything but certain that the home side will ultimately pick up three points. We are more inclined to bet on a point win for the visitors in the Everton vs. Brighton match.
The bottom line is that this will be a very close game, especially as Everton have not won two games against their opponents in the same season for 40 years. Will this streak continue?
Everton – Statistics & current form
There is no longer any question of a match rhythm for coach Rafael Benitez’s team, as a sheer flood of match cancellations has condemned his boys to doing nothing in recent weeks.
Now, however, the “Toffees” are back in action and, if you believe the bookmakers’ betting odds, the home side are the favourites for Everton vs Brighton. But one thing is clear: a win will be very difficult in the upcoming game!
Sleepy into the new year
For the past four years, the men from Liverpool have always lost the first game of the year. One can only hope that this time the holiday festivities have been a little less severe, so that this negative series comes to an end.
However, with only one win from the last eleven games in the league anyway, we don’t think betting on the home side in Everton v Brighton is exactly an inviting choice.
With a goal difference of 13:13 in their own stadium, the supposed home advantage is not necessarily lavish. However, you have to give the hosts credit for having won their last four home games in a direct duel.
When will the negative run end?
Since the beginning of October, no team in the Premier League has taken fewer points than Everton. They have conceded a total of eleven goals in their last five home games. Compared to the previous season, they have deteriorated considerably with an average of just over one point per game.
At least striker Calvert-Lewin remains a beacon of hope. He has scored at least one goal in three of the last four league meetings with Brighton.
Predicted Everton line-up:
Pickford – Coleman, Colgate, Keane, Digne – Townsend, Doucoure, Allan, Gray – Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin
Last games played by Everton:
Premier League
12/16 2021 – Chelsea London 1 – 1 Everton
12/12 2021 – Crystal Palace 3 – 1 Everton
12/06 2021 – Everton 2 – 1 Arsenal London
12/01 2021 – Everton 1 – 4 Liverpool FC
11/28 2021 – Brentford 1 – 0 Everton
Brighton – Statistics & current form
Lying in tenth place in the table, the southern English side must inevitably be pleased with the way the season has gone so far. The fact that they are currently snatching points from even big teams like Chelsea or Liverpool is an absolute bonus.
However, they suffered one of only four defeats so far this season against their upcoming opponents in August. A bad omen? We say no! In fact, we’re predicting that Everton vs Brighton won’t leave the visitors empty-handed.
Draw as standard result
In the last twelve years, the “Seagulls” have only lost the first match of the year once. By the way: All (!) Premier League games to start the year ended in a draw.
In general, the guests have a very high rate of point-splitting. In nine of the last 13 league games involving Brighton, there was no winner at the end. On the road, the Potter team has drawn six out of nine games this season. From our point of view, this statistic alone makes a bet on an X a good choice.
Few goals on both sides
On the whole, the team from the south coast of the country is characterised by a stable defence. The last time they conceded more than one goal was in mid-November, and on average goalkeeper Sanchez has to make exactly one save per game, both away and at home.
The visitors themselves have scored in four of the last five games. One of their specialities is scoring late goals, as they have scored five after the 90th minute. The bottom line for Everton vs. Brighton is that we think it’s very realistic to predict a close result, such as a 1-1 draw.
Predicted line-up of Brighton:
Sanchez – Veltman, Burn, Cucurella – Lamptey, Lallana, Bissouma, March – Moder, Mac Allister – Welbeck
Last matches played by Brighton:
Premier League
12/29 2021 – Chelsea London 1 – 1 Brighton
12/26 2021 – Brighton 2 – 0 Brentford
12/15 2021 – Brighton 0 – 1 Wolverhampton
12/04 2021 – Southampton 1 – 1 Brighton
12/01 2021 – West Ham 1 – 1 Brighton
Everton – Brighton Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
The two teams have faced each other a total of 20 times. Everton have won ten times, while Brighton have only managed four full victories. In addition, the visitors are now without a win in four direct duels and have never been successful at Goodison Park. Nevertheless, a close match is in the offing.
Everton – Brighton Tip
After a forced break, can the Toffees finally get back on track? Currently only lying in 15th place, there is an acute need for action at the nine-time champions. However, the omens for the upcoming match are supposedly bad, and the home side would have to be satisfied with a draw, because at the moment there is not much going right.
As absolute underdogs, the “Seagulls” are doing a good job in the league at the moment. Week after week, they are scoring consistently, so Liverpool could also get something worthwhile out of it. From our point of view, the odds on Everton vs. Brighton are more than inviting for tip X.
