Will the Magpies stop the Eagles’ run?
Both Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have experienced a small upswing recently. While the Londoners got rid of the worst of their relegation worries with two wins in a row, the Magpies can look ahead to Europe again with ten points out of a possible twelve from their last four league games. If the Black & Whites win away at Crystal Palace against Newcastle, they will remain ahead of Manchester United
Basically, our prediction for Crystal Palace v Newcastle is for the visitors to take the points, as they have not lost any of their last six competitive games against the Glaziers (three wins, three draws). The Eagles have failed to score in their last five competitive games against the Magpies. However, the fact that three of the last four competitive matches between the two teams have ended 0-0 should not go unmentioned
The first leg was a clear 4-0 win for Newcastle United. However, another goalless draw between the two clubs is not categorically out of the question, especially as Crystal Palace recently defied Liverpool’s brilliant attack and celebrated a 1-0 away win at the Reds. Ultimately, however, we see the Magpies as having the advantage, which is why we have decided to bet the combined tip on the double chance X2 at under 4.5 goals. After all, no team has scored more than four goals in any of the last 15 meetings between the two teams.
However, given that Newcastle United come to Selhurst Park with the better record and the better form, it would also be a coherent alternative to use the handy Bwin app to bet on the Black & Whites winning at least one of the two halves in London.
Crystal Palace – Statistics & current form
Crystal Palace Football Club got off to a good start, but then increasingly lost the plot in the second half of the 2023/24 season. In the meantime, the lead over the first relegation place had shrunk alarmingly, which is why those responsible made adjustments to the coaching bench.
Since the end of February, Europa League winner Oliver Glasner has been the second Austrian coach in Premier League history to sit on the Eagles’ bench. The 49-year-old has also brought success back to the London borough of South Norwood after some initial difficulties
Crystal Palace can secure their place in the league
The Glaziers picked up eleven points out of a possible 24 under Glasner. The knot burst the weekend before last at Anfield Road when, despite all the opponents’ chances, a 1-0 away win was finally on the scoreboard.
The capital side confirmed this victory against West Ham United in a brilliant 5-2 home win on Sunday. As a result, they are now eleven points clear of the first relegation place. If Crystal Palace’s bet on a home win for the Eagles against Newcastle pans out, the team’s stay in the league would officially be in the bag
Is Glasner backing Olise, Eze and Mateta again?
It has to be said that the Londoners have recently struggled against teams in the top four of the last league table. Crystal Palace have lost ten of their last 13 matches (one win, two draws). Whether the Glaziers can now take revenge on Newcastle for the 4-0 defeat in the first leg will also depend largely on the starting eleven.
With Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta all playing from the start, the Eagles won four out of five Premier League games in the 2023/24 season (one defeat), giving them a points average of 2.4. By comparison, in the 28 games in which these three players did not start, the Capitals averaged just 0.9 points per league game.
Predicted line-up of Crystal Palace:
Newcastle – Statistics & current form
The nouveau riche Newcastle United Football Club – majority-owned by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Fund since 2021 – qualified for the UEFA Champions League last summer.
There, the Magpies paid a lot of money and finished bottom of the group in the group of death with Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan. Nevertheless, the Black & Whites have of course tasted blood again and want to compete in a European competition again in the 2024/25 season
Can Newcastle maintain sixth place against the chasing pack?
For a long time it didn’t look like NUFC would be able to build on their previous season’s coup. However, the Magpies are now back on course for the Europa League. Thanks to a strong haul of ten points out of a possible twelve from their last four games, the Black & Whites have defended sixth place against their prominent rivals Manchester United, West Ham United, Chelsea and Brighton.
Most recently, there was even a brilliant 4:0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur. So it’s no surprise that the odds are at least slightly in favor of Eddie Howe’s team for Crystal Palace against Newcastle, who are now unbeaten in six competitive games against the Eagles (three wins, three draws).
Newcastle have also performed better away from home recently
Of course, the visit to the UK capital will not be a foregone conclusion. After Newcastle remained unbeaten in seven visits to London in 2022/23 (four wins, three draws), the Magpies have won just one of their five visits to the Thames so far in 2023/24 (one draw, three defeats).
In total, they have just 14 points from 14 Premier League away games, meaning the team from the north-east of England are only 14th in the away table. And yet: the form curve is also pointing upwards here. The Magpies have won three of their last five away games in the English top flight (two defeats).
Predicted line-up for Newcastle:
Crystal Palace – Newcastle head-to-head comparison / H2H result
Head to head: 12 – 12 – 31
A total of 55 meetings have taken place between the two teams so far and with 31 wins, Newcastle United clearly lead the direct comparison. The Magpies are currently unbeaten in six competitive matches against Crystal Palace (three wins, three draws) and have conceded just one goal in that time. The first leg was an emphatic 4-0 win over the Glaziers.
Crystal Palace – Newcastle betting tip
All in all, our Crystal Palace v Newcastle prediction tends to favor the visitors, who have not lost to the Glaziers in six competitive games (three wins, three draws). However, the Eagles have also experienced an upturn in fortunes of late, winning two games in a row to put a definitive end to any relegation worries
However, it should not be forgotten that London has not been the best place for the Black & Whites of late, who are only 14th in the away table anyway. Accordingly, it makes sense to use the combined bet on the double chance X2 with under 4.5 goals to also get the possibility of a points split on the ticket.
For this, betting odds of 1.78 are available for Crystal Palace against Newcastle, which we play at Betano with three out of ten units
