Klopp’s failures want to forget the disgrace
The significance of the current table in the English Premier League is to be taken with a pinch of salt. Some of the teams still have to play catch-up games and therefore there could still be shifts in the standings.
Jürgen Klopp’s team, which is currently only in seventh place, has a legitimate chance of making it back to the top flight. The chase to catch up is set to continue this weekend late on Saturday evening. In the capital, odds of 1.75 are on offer for Crystal Palace to win their third league match in a row against Liverpool.
While Liverpool’s form – at least in the Championship – is on the up, things have not gone to plan for Crystal Palace’s Eagles in recent weeks. Vieira’s side have now gone seven league games without a win. The Reds are now a fearsome opponent at Selhurst Park, because in recent years the prediction of a victory for the Klopp disciples at Crystal Palace’s home game against Liverpool has always been the right decision. Will that streak continue and with it the momentum for both teams?
With an away win in London, Liverpool would climb back into a starting spot for the first time in weeks, which would result in an international appearance in the 2023/24 season. The game kicks off at Selhurst Park on Saturday night at 8:45pm.
Crystal Palace – Statistics & current form
Under veteran coach Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace adopted an ultra-defensive style of play. Tough fare for fans of modern football. Under successor Patrick Vieira, this initially changed and the games became much more attractive.
This season, the Eagles have one more point to their credit after 23 games, but in terms of play, a step backwards can be seen. Especially in the forward play, Zaha & Co are completely lacking in penetrating power. In 23 league games, only 21 goals have been scored so far, compared to 32 at this point last year.
Winless in 2023
The team is still in a safe midfield position in the league, but the capital eleven is gradually having to deal with the thought of a relegation battle again. The lead over 18th place is now only six points. In recent weeks, the lead has shrunk game by game. The last league win dates back to the old year. The Vieira eleven has been without a win for almost two months. On 31 December, they managed a 2-0 win at Bournemouth, after which Crystal Palace remained without a win in seven league games and one FA Cup match.
Last weekend, they were only seconds away from success, but Brentford scored a flattering equaliser in the derby in minute 90+6. For the third time in a row, betting on both teams to score was the right decision. The bookmakers offer odds of 1.65-1.70 for this bet on Saturday evening between Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
The advantage of a home game is also limited, as Vieira’s side have gone without a win in their last five games at Selhurst Park, although they have managed three draws in a row recently. In addition, the team has conceded at least one goal in ten of its last twelve home games. Also working against the home side is the absence of top star Wilfried Zaha, who is still unavailable due to a thigh strain.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form
Four consecutive league wins have eluded Jürgen Klopp and a Champions League-less season was looking increasingly likely. Most recently, however, the Reds managed to turn things around, winning 2-0 in both the derby against Everton and against the in-form Magpies from Newcastle.
With two games in hand, a top four finish is now within their grasp. It seemed as if the Reds had finally caught themselves and were back to successful days gone by.
Disaster in the top flight
At the latest ,when the Reds were leading 2-0 against Real Madrid in the Champions League, one saw this thesis confirmed. Darwin Nunez, often described as a big transfer flop, scored with a gusto piece, Salah increased a little later. But the evening was to end badly for Liverpool, with a final score of 2:5 on the scoreboard. Afterwards, the Klopp team was taken apart by all the experts and the game was described as the end of the “Klopp era”. The team that always succeeded through intensity is now a team that regularly reels off fewer kilometres than its opponents.
In contrast to the experts, Klopp did not want to completely write off the possibility of advancing. Until the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, it is important to regain self-confidence. The first goal is particularly important for Liverpool. Whenever Klopp’s team has taken a 1-0 lead this season, it has been tantamount to a win (eight games). Alisson Becker has not conceded a goal in either of the last two league games, but there is still something to be said for predicting both teams to score between Crystal Palace and Liverpool. The last time the Reds conceded more than the current 28 goals after 22 games was in 2010/11, and they also only had a clean sheet in ten league games before the two nil games.

Crystal Palace – Liverpool Direct Comparison / H2H Record
Jürgen Klopp’s side had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Anfield Road in the first leg. Should the favourites also fail to win in London, the Eagles from the Selhurst district would score in both league games against the Reds for the first time since the 2014/15 season.
However, the omens are not good as Liverpool have won their last seven away games at Selhurst Park by a combined score of 22-6. In PL history, Liverpool have only won more away games in a row against Norwich (eight wins between 1995 and 2021). That record may be set late on Saturday night.
Crystal Palace – Liverpool Tip
There have been a few lows for Liverpool this season, but the 5-2 defeat to the Royals tops them all. A reaction is expected, and sorely needed, with the hate duel with Manchester United coming up next week.
The Eagles come at just the right time, as Selhurst Park has guaranteed a victory for the visitors from Liverpool in recent years. In addition, Jürgen Klopp has now gone eleven duels with Crystal Palace without defeat (ten wins, one draw).
There are a number of absentees on both sides, with those of the home side getting more weight. Patrick Vieira does not have the squad depth to compensate. Despite the absences, Liverpool have a powerful squad that has a clear advantage. Coupled with the clear head-to-head comparison, the prediction on the away win between Crystal Palace and Liverpool is recommended with a wager of six units.
