On the final day of Group F of the Club World Cup, Borussia Dortmund and Ulsan HD face off at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati. The Germans are looking to consolidate their first place, while the South Koreans are seeking a feat that could reopen the qualification race.

After a slow start in the Club World Cup, Borussia Dortmund secured a spectacular seven-goal victory. Four days earlier, Niko Kovač’s men had drawn 0-0 with Brazilian top-flight club Fluminense and will face the reigning South African champions in their final group stage match.

Given the current state of Group F, Dortmund know that a point on Wednesday evening may not be enough to secure qualification for the knockout stages. However, they will be hoping to put pressure on Ulsan HD, one of the few teams already out of the tournament.

The South Koreans were narrowly defeated by Sundowns in Orlando last week, failing to find an answer to Iqraam Rayners’ first-half opener. Their thrilling encounter with Fluminense also ended in defeat, as the Brazilians showed their class in an action-packed second half at MetLife Stadium. Ulsan could theoretically finish third in what has proved to be an extremely competitive group, but any kind of positive result would be a minor miracle against one of Europe’s footballing powerhouses.

We have cross-referenced each team’s statistics with the betting markets to provide you with some expert tips ahead of Wednesday’s clash in Ohio.

A Dortmund win by a comfortable margin

Although not yet at their best, Dortmund should have more than enough resources to comfortably overcome Ulsan HD, the least fancied Asian team in this Club World Cup.

Gregor Kobel made several superb saves to keep Fluminense at bay in their Group F opener, notably denying Brazilian midfielder Nonato the chance to react to Everaldo’s shot in a split second. While Kobel was called into action frequently at the other end, his teammates failed to find the right inspiration in the final third, despite their clear dominance in possession.

The German giants played with their usual swagger, however, with Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy, Jobe Bellingham, and an own goal by Mamelodi full-back Khuliso Mudau securing the three points for Dortmund in Cincinnati.

Having lost all six of their previous matches in FIFA’s top international club competition, Ulsan are, unsurprisingly, the underdogs. However, they took the lead in three of those six games, suggesting that their first victory may not be too far away.

Against South American champions Fluminense, the Tigers performed admirably, managing to cause serious problems for a top-level opponent. After falling behind thanks to a spectacular free kick from Jhon Arias, two counterattacking goals from Lee Jin-hyun and Um Won-sang gave Ulsan an unlikely lead at halftime. They were unable to prevent Fluminense from coming back in the second half, but Kim Pan-gon’s team will certainly be satisfied with their display of resilience.

Although Ulsan never had a realistic chance of qualifying for the final stages of the Club World Cup, their recent performances at domestic and continental level are cause for concern. Halfway through the K-League season, the five-time champions are only fifth in the table, 13 points behind leaders Jeonbuk.

Adding to their disappointing league form is a poor campaign in the AFC Champions League, where Ulsan finished with the worst attack in the entire East Division. The only bright spot was a victory over Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, but this came amid a string of defeats that saw them eliminated at the group stage.

In light of all this, a comfortable victory for Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening is to be expected. Ulsan may even manage to score, but it is in the opposition’s area that most of the chances will be seen.

Tip: Borussia Dortmund -1 handicap – odds 1.62 on bet365, 1.52 on Sisal, 1.55 on GoldBet

Explanation of the bet: this bet is valid if Borussia Dortmund wins by two or more goals.

Quality over quantity: Dortmund’s shooting statistics

After two matches in the Club World Cup, Borussia Dortmund has recorded the lowest number of shots on goal in Group F. However, 9 of their 15 attempts were on target, indicating a remarkable efficiency in front of goal.

Against Fluminense, the Germans attempted only seven shots, but managed to force 44-year-old goalkeeper Fábio into at least three saves. Even more accurate was their performance against Mamelodi Sundowns: 75% of their eight shots were on target. Dortmund’s first three goals — an opportunistic touch from Felix Nmecha, a header from Serhou Guirassy, and a stunning volley from debutant Jobe Bellingham — were all executed with great precision before Mudau’s own goal.

The draw in New Jersey was the first time since April (2-2 against Bayern Munich) that Dortmund failed to score at least three goals in a single game, confirming their attacking prowess. Although we may not see a barrage of shots on Wednesday, we can expect high accuracy from the Black and Yellows’ attack.

The odds of 2.00 offered by bet365 for over 7.5 shots on target seem very attractive. The odds of 1.90 on Sisal and GoldBet are also worth considering.

Tip: Borussia Dortmund to have over 7.5 shots on target – odds of 2.00 at bet365, 1.90 at Sisal, 1.90 at GoldBet

Explanation of the bet: this bet wins if Borussia Dortmund has more than 7 shots on target.

A look at the tackle market

It may not be one of the most traditional betting markets, but betting on the number of tackles made by a single player can often offer interesting value.

Against a technically superior opponent, Ulsan showed great aggression in their spectacular clash with Fluminense. The South Koreans committed 14 fouls, more than three times the number of free kicks awarded to Fluminense. In their 4-2 defeat to the 2023 Copa Libertadores champions, 15 of the 16 players fielded by Ulsan won at least one tackle, and versatile midfielder Ko Seung-Beom finished the game with eight successful tackles.

We are likely to see the same intensity at TQL Stadium, where Ulsan will look to cause problems for favorites Dortmund. Although the Germans are technically superior, the Koreans will rely on their desire to win back possession to level the tie. In this context, Ko Seung-Beom can be expected to play a key role again on Wednesday evening.

Tip: Ko Seung-Beom will make more than 3 tackles – priced at 2.25 on bet365

Bet explanation: This bet wins if Ko Seung-Beom makes three or more tackles during the match.
