Will Lampard suffer his fifth defeat in a row?
A preliminary decision can be made in the English Premier League title fight on Wednesday night when the top match goes down at the Etihad Stadium. Chelsea would also have the claim to play for the title, but the team is in no man’s land in the table. The match between Chelsea and Brentford at Stamford Bridge will kick off 15 minutes before the top match. The lowest odds are offered when betting on the home side, but doubts about the Blues’ victory are given.
Indeed, a look at the current table shows that while Chelsea have a game in hand over Brentford, the Bees are currently ranked five points ahead of Chelsea in the table. Eleventh in the table, Chelsea will have to prepare for a season without international soccer in 2023/24.
The final weeks of the season will be all about damage limitation. City rivals Brentford are visiting a team that is one of the positive surprises. So it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see Chelsea vs. Brentford on Wednesday with a forecast of points growth for the Frank eleven. The match kicks off at 20:45 on Wednesday.
The top match on Wednesday night mentioned at the beginning is, of course, the summit clash between Manchester City and Arsenal. The Skyblues could move to within two points of the Arteta eleven and would then have taken the lead in the standings with a game to spare according to losing points. This is a cracker of a match, which we will also be examining in detail in our Football England betting category.
Chelsea – Statistics & current form
As a player, the now 44-year-old Frank Lampard stood for success and shaped an era at the Blues. His merits can hardly be put into words and accordingly he enjoys a high reputation. However, a top player does not have to become a super coach and this is definitely the case with Lampard.
From July 2019 to January 2021, he was already in charge of his heart’s club as head coach, but was unable to meet the high expectations. After a hapless Everton stint, he is now finishing the season for the Blues. His record after four games as interim coach couldn’t be worse – four defeats and only one goal scored.
Weakest offensive performance since 1923/24
The multi-million investments in the summer and also in the winter have not paid off. Instead, the capital’s eleven is gradually becoming the laughing stock of the league and the entire soccer world. After spending over 600 million euros, the team is eleventh in the table and has collected just 39 points in 31 league games. Even in the disappointing 2015/16 season, the team had five more points to show for it at this point. In the previous year, it was a full 23 points.
The offense, in particular, lacks any penetrating power. Chelsea has only scored 30 goals in the season so far (last year, it was 66 at this point). These 30 goals are the weakest in almost a century. The last time Chelsea had scored fewer goals after 31 league games was in the 1923/24 season. The lack of a top scorer is also highlighted by the statistic that those 31 goals were scored by 14 different players.
Chelsea has now gone seven games without a win (two draws, five defeats) and has just recently lost four in a row. Why Chelsea vs. Brentford odds of only 1.70 are offered for the home side is incomprehensible. There is currently a gap between aspiration and reality and value is not to be recognized with the best will in the world with such a bet.

Brentford – statistics & current form
Also in their second year in the Premier League, Thomas Frank’s side present themselves as a real asset. In 2022/23, the Bees have even eight points more than in the previous year after 32 completed games. The offense has scored nine times more, while the defense has conceded five fewer goals. Brentford has taken another significant step forward this season without abandoning its own principles. The club’s management continues to be extremely data-driven and has taken scouting in soccer to a new level.
Brentford celebrated only three away wins so far
One reason why the Blues can definitely count as favorites, despite their disastrous form, is the Bees’ away record in addition to the quality available. Brentford have won just three of their 16 away games so far this season, including defeats in their last two visiting appearances. However, prior to that, the Frank eleven were brought to their knees in just one of their eight games away from home.
With seven draws and six defeats, the away record is not entirely sobering, but by no means positive. With Chelsea vs. Brentford, betting on an away win is therefore also associated with a certain amount of risk. However, with betting odds of up to 5.00, this is not surprising.
The last success celebrated the table tenth on March 15, followed by six league games without full success. It is striking that a lead recently did not give security, because in the last four games in which the 1:0 was achieved, there was no full success.
In terms of personnel, hopes rest on the English team striker Ivan Toney. With 19 goals for the season, he could become only the second Brentford player after Dave McCulloch (in his 30s) to score 20+ goals for the Bees in the top flight. A goal haul would not be a surprise, as Toney has also advanced as a derby specialist of late with four goals in the last five London derbies.

Chelsea – Brentford Direct comparison / H2H balance
Between 1946 and 2021 Chelsea won seven of the eight completed matches against their city rivals. However, the favorite remained without a win in the last two games. However, the underdog was able to celebrate a brilliant victory in the last guest appearance at Stamford Bridge. Despite trailing 0:1, the Frank eleven managed a brilliant victory. One of only two away wins against Chelsea.
Chelsea – Brentford Tip
Looking at the recent results of both teams suggests a crisis duel. On the one hand, a team with seven games without a win (including four defeats en suite), on the other hand, a team that has not won six in a row recently. Self-confidence will not be in great measure on either side. For this reason, Chelsea vs. Brentford odds of maximum 1.71 are not justified at all.
The guests are certainly not in top form either and do not have the individual quality that the Blues can boast. Nevertheless, with odds of up to 2.16 for the double chance X2 bet, the expectation is very positive. With a stake of five units, this tip is alluded to in Chelsea vs Brentford. For riskier bettors among us, the bet on a Toney goal is offered, who is in dazzling form and recently also acted very accurate in derbies.
