Wobble the Munich team in Celtic Park too?
While it is a remarkable achievement for Celtic Glasgow to have reached the playoffs of the first Champions League phase with twelve out of a possible 24 points, those in charge in Munich are not very enthusiastic about the unscheduled “detention” and the missed direct ticket to the last sixteen. If the betting tip of an away win for the Reds against Celtic Glasgow does not pan out, it would be another setback in a season that could be improved at the European level.
After all, the Kompany team has lost three of the four away games in the league phase and was even beaten twice, at Feyenoord Rotterdam (0:3) and FC Barcelona (1:4). Although the forecast for the German record champions to progress against Celtic Glasgow against Bayern has some merit, it is certainly not a foregone conclusion. FCB has lost five of its last seven Champions League away games (one win, one draw).
Celtic Glasgow, on the other hand, have also had to take some pretty heavy defeats on the road, such as the 7-1 loss at Borussia Dortmund. However, the Hoops have not lost any of their last six Champions League games at Celtic Park (four wins, two draws). So it is definitely possible that Brendan Rodgers’ team can pull off a respectable result against Bayern.
Celtic Glasgow – Statistics & current form
Celtic Glasgow is once again the measure of all things at the national level. Even though city rivals Rangers have “only” won 16 of 25 league games, the Hoops are leading the Scottish Premiership table by a clear margin with 66 points, 13 points ahead of the Light Blues.
Brendan Rodgers’ team can therefore fully focus on the playoffs, for which the Celts have qualified with a solid haul of twelve out of a possible 24 points in the league phase. They have only suffered two defeats in eight games (three wins, three draws), one less than Bayern.
A key to their success has been the Hoops’ home strength, with the team now on a six-Champions League-home-matches-winning-streak (four wins, two draws). With that in mind, we think it’s very surprising that such high odds are being offered for Tip 1 against Celtic Glasgow against Bayern.
LeoVegas, for example, is offering odds of 8.00 for the Celts to win at home and 3.15 for the double chance 1X, which can certainly be considered in view of Bayern’s poor away record.
Celtic Glasgow has a lot of offensive power
Brendan Rodgers’ team also has the offensive power that RB Leipzig already experienced in the preliminary round (3-1). Nicolas Kühn and Kyogo Furuhashi are often brilliantly set up by Arne Engels, who pulls the strings in the creative control center, and definitely have the potential to overcome even the not-so-secure Bayern defense.
Nevertheless, the Celts should certainly not make the mistake of playing with their guard down against the ball-playing and very dominant Kompany football of Munich in front of their home crowd. This suggests, in turn, that there is unlikely to be a goal festival in the first leg.
Provisional line-up for Celtic Glasgow:
Bayern – statistics & current form
FC Bayern Munich continue to show two faces very regularly. On the one hand, they have been on fire in the Bundesliga lately, which is why the recent slip-ups by Bayer Leverkusen have already given them an eight-point lead over second place, meaning that they should win the league again this year.
On the other hand, however, the Reds once again failed early in the DFB Cup and did not exactly cover themselves in glory in the Champions League either. There were three defeats in the group stage, which ultimately cost FCB their top-eight finish.
The “Finale dahoam” remains the big goal
In the end, Vincent Kompany’s team got off relatively lightly. After all, Munich could have faced Manchester City instead of Celtic Glasgow, which would have drastically reduced their chances of reaching a second “final at home”.
As it stands, FCB are currently even the team with the fifth-lowest chances of lifting the trophy in the 2025 Champions League winners forecast. However, that could quickly change if the tip for an away win for the German record champions against Celtic Glasgow doesn’t pan out.
Bayern with weak CL away record
It should be noted that FC Bayern have not been a club that home teams have had to fear recently. The Reds have lost five of their last seven Champions League away games (one win, one draw) – including three of the four games in this year’s league phase.
Apart from the away game in Gelsenkirchen against Shakhtar Donetsk, which the Kompany side won comfortably 5-1, Munich scored only one goal in the other three away games (in the 4-1 defeat in Barcelona), although at least in the games at Aston Villa (1-0) and Feyenoord (0-3) they were also the favorites of the betting providers…
Provisional line-up for Bayern:
Celtic Glasgow v Bayern Head to head / H2H record
Head to head: 0 – 1 – 3
There have been four meetings between the two teams so far, which clashed in both 2003/04 and 2017/18 in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. In all four duels, the Scots did not manage a single victory. At least it was close both times at home Celtic Park. In 2003, the Hoops held Munich to a 0-0 draw and in 2017 they only lost 1-2.
Celtic Glasgow vs. Bayern tip
For our taste, the betting odds of the betting providers without tax in favor of the German record champions were a few numbers too clear at Celtic Glasgow against Bayern. This is questionable in that Munich have not covered themselves in glory away from home in the Champions League for a long time. The 5-1 win in Gelsenkirchen against Shakhtar Donetsk was the only victory among the last seven away games in the premier class (one draw, five defeats).
On top of that, the Scots are strong at home. In Celtic Park, none of the last six Champions League home games have been lost (four wins, two draws), which certainly influences our forecast for Celtic Glasgow against Bayern.
We do not expect FCB to already decide the tie in the first leg and are betting that the Reds will score a maximum of two away goals. For this, odds of 1.75 are available at Celtic Glasgow against Bayern, which we are taking up with four units at Interwetten.
