Can Real Madrid celebrate their second win?
The second matchday is coming up in the Spanish league and Real Madrid have to play away, as they did in the opening game. The royals also want to play a good game at Celta Vigo and reward themselves with three points if possible.
But the task in Galicia may well be problematic, as Celta Vigo can be an unpleasant opponent. Nevertheless, ahead of the Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid match, betting odds indicate favourites for the visitors.
On the first matchday, Real Madrid struggled to win at promoted Almeria. A more confident performance would now be desirable, although in the end only the points are relevant.
Celta Vigo – Statistics & current form
Celta Vigo have their sights set on the second matchday and want to annoy Real Madrid. The club opened with a 2-2 draw against Espanyol, which was a solid start. Not much has changed in the summer. Some young players were signed, the best-known newcomers being Frankfurt’s Goncalo Paciencia and Oscar Mingueza, who came from FC Barcelona.
The squad is relatively small, yet there is competition at some positions. Celta Vigo are now entering their twelfth consecutive year in Spain’s top division, and the primary goal hovering over everything is once again to stay in the league this season. In recent years, they have always managed to get a leg up on a top club, especially at home in the Balaidos.
However, Celta Vigo have only won two out of seven games this season, losing three in the same period. More consistency is needed if they are not to slip back and forth between midfield and the relegation zone. This was the case for too long in the previous season, and only a small positive series in the second half of the season brought about the liberating blow.
Defensively, Celta Vigo are not to be underestimated
16 season defeats were certainly a bit too much in the end, but when a team like Celta Vigo finishes in eleventh place and has twelve wins under their belt, there’s usually not too much that’s gone wrong. Especially at home, the team was on a good run and provided one or two footballing highlights. Away from home, it was more a case of “preventing the game”.
Overall, Celta Vigo conceded only 43 goals in the 2021/22 season, which can be seen as a key to staying in the league. However, 43 goals scored on their own is not a value that seems outstanding. The hosts failed to score too often, in 14 games last season alone. All the more positive were the first offensive attempts against Espanyol.
On a good day, Celta should definitely be able to do something. Normally, however, Real Madrid can play off their own role as favourites, which is why our prediction before the match between Celta Vigo and Real Madrid is that the visitors will win the game.

Real Madrid – Statistics & current form
Real Madrid pick up where they left off in the pre-season to start the new season. That means that the first title has already been won by winning the Super Cup. In addition, there was a 2:1 win at Almeria at the start, in which the royals did not shine. They didn’t do that often in the pre-season either, but that didn’t matter much because the results were right in the end.
Once again, coach Carlo Ancelotti proved to have a good hand on the first matchday, as it was substitute Alaba who scored with his first contact with the ball from a free kick to take the lead. Real didn’t do too much in the summer, spending a fair amount of money on Tchouameni and also signing Rüdiger, but essentially kept the successful squad from the previous season. Even with Casemiro’s departure, there will probably be no more trading. The Brazilian is on Manchester United’s list.
Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid’s recent statistics also look very good. They have not lost any of their last six games and have not lost at home in what feels like an eternity. At the beginning of this season, however, the royals often have to play away, three times in a row to be precise, because construction work is still being carried out at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid: The weak performances should become less
There is not much to reproach Real Madrid for if last season is taken as a yardstick. True, there were one or two games in which the turbo was not ignited until later, but whoever wins the league and the Champions League in the end has the arguments on their side. Only four defeats in the season also speak for themselves.
80 goals also do not exactly ensure that the royals come under suspicion of having only played in administration mode. The 31 goals conceded defensively have been good value anyway.
Predicted Real Madrid line-up:
Courtois – Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Nacho – Tchouameni, Valverde, Kroos, Modric – Vinicius Jr, Benzema

Celta Vigo – Real Madrid Direct comparison / H2H balance
70 games Real Madrid have won against Celta Vigo so far. This is not particularly surprising, as the royals are one of the best teams in the world. However, Celta Vigo have 32 wins to their name and came close to a surprise last year when they lost 1:2 at home. However, seven of the last eight league games were won by the royals.
Celta Vigo – Real Madrid Tip
Real Madrid will be hoping to win the Spanish title and will want to leave no doubt about which team is the strongest right from the start. Against Celta Vigo, however, resistance awaits, as the hosts have qualities in their ranks.
Nevertheless, a lot will have to happen for the hosts to take anything away. That’s why, ahead of the Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid match, our tip is that the visitors will walk off the pitch as winners.
